"What's your rush?" Liu Chounv straightened up. "Do you think those security guards in your factory are pushovers?"

"Tang Zhong and his men made their move?"

"The day before yesterday morning, when things were at their worst, Tang Zhong led a few men with iron bars to the Zhao family's door," Liu Chounu described vividly. "They looked like they were about to devour the Wang family members alive. After a few swings of the bars, they all ran away in fright."

Song Xianglan felt much better.

"Well done. If they dare to come again, have Tang Zhong break their legs. I'll pay for their medical expenses."

Our Sister Song is so generous when she's rich.

Liu Chounu swept all the chicken and duck droppings in the yard into a dustpan and went to the backyard.

"This good stuff shouldn't be wasted. It'll be best used to fertilize your vegetable garden." Liu Chounu shoveled all the manure into the small vegetable garden in the backyard that had been eaten clean.

I took a hoe, turned over the soil a couple of times, and covered it up.

Song Xianglan walked to the hand pump and pumped the water a few times with both hands on the long handle.

Cool well water flowed into the large wooden tub.

Song Xianglan filled the bucket, picked it up, and poured it out onto the cement ground in the yard with a "whoosh".

The splashing water diluted the fishy stench.

The ugly woman followed along, carrying a bamboo broom to sweep the water.

The two cooperated tacitly.

You splash water, I sweep the floor.

After a few buckets of water were poured in, the original color of the cement ground in the yard was revealed, and it was clean and tidy.

The few fallen leaves piled up in the corner by the courtyard wall were also cleared away.

Song Xianglan washed her hands and walked to the courtyard wall.

There were several dragon fruit plants growing there.

The weather is getting cold, and most fruits are no longer available.

All that's left are pomelos, tangerines, and these late-ripening dragon fruits.

Song Xianglan picked four ripe dragon fruits, rinsed them with water, and placed them on the stone table in the courtyard.

Just as I finished arranging the fruit, half a head peeked in from outside the gate.

Granny Yu clung to the door frame, peering furtively into the yard.

Her hair was completely white, tied in a small bun at the back of her head, with a large red plastic flower stuck in it.

"Old Song."

Granny Yu's cloudy eyes darted around, "Have you seen my Pengfei in the new city?"

Song Xianglan looked disgusted.

"No, old woman, what happened to you and you've gotten yourself into such a mess?"

When Granny Yu heard that she hadn't seen Yu Pengfei, the light in her eyes instantly went out.

She plopped down on the doorstep.

He crossed his legs, patted his thighs, and began to complain.

"My life is so miserable," Granny Yu said, her lips moving rapidly. "Do you know how hard it was for me to raise these children? Now they're all like debt collectors. They've all run away as soon as they've become successful, and none of them care about me anymore. My son doesn't care about me, and I've lost contact with my daughter."

Song Xianglan ignored her.

I walked back to the washbasin and started washing the clothes.

Granny Yu didn't need anyone to respond; she could continue on her own.

"Those daughters-in-law are heartless bastards, disrespectful to their parents-in-law," Granny Yu cursed, pointing at the air. "And Xiujuan, that rotten-hearted woman. She's no good either."

I treated her with all my heart. Now she's out there enjoying herself, not even sending a word home. They're all ungrateful wretches. Old Song, you're so lucky. You live in a big house, and even Liu Chou-nu and Liu Chunhua come to flatter you.

She kept going back and forth, cursing everyone else.

It's all someone else's fault; she gave her heart and soul only to have it was wasted.

Song Xianglan scrubbed the clothes harder and harder, splashing water all over the floor.

"You old hag, if you want to curse, go curse at your own doorstep." Song Xianglan mercilessly exposed her. "It's all other people's fault, aren't you at fault? I think it's all your fault."

Granny Yu's cursing stopped abruptly.

She sat on the threshold, looking at Song Xianglan with resentment.

Song Xianglan's courtyard was clean and tidy, and she was dressed neatly. Even the dragon fruit on the stone table seemed to exude a festive atmosphere.

It stung Granny Yu's eyes.

"Old Song, stop being so smug." Granny Yu smirked, revealing a strange smile. "Don't think you're happy just because your children are successful. Both of your kids have run off to faraway places. Which one is by your side? You're still just a lonely old woman with no one to care for you."

After finishing speaking, Granny Yu stood up and patted the dust off her bottom.

He turned and staggered away.

Song Xianglan watched her retreating figure and spat heavily on the ground.

"Anyway, I'm happier than you," Song Xianglan shouted at the door. "My two children are successful. Even if they're not by my side, I'm still happy. It's better than an annoying old man like you."

No one answered.

Liu Chounu walked out from the backyard, clutching a handful of freshly picked green vegetables in her hand.

"Who are you arguing with now?" Liu Chounv walked to the sink to wash vegetables.

"Who else could it be? Granny Yu." Song Xianglan sat back down on the low stool and continued washing clothes.

Liu Chounv shook her head and put the washed bok choy into the plastic basin next to her.

"Your vegetable garden is really empty. There's only a little mustard greens left by the back wall." Liu Chounu picked up the basin. "If you want to eat vegetables lately, just pick some from my yard. I have plenty."

Song Xianglan wrung out the water from the clothes in her hands.

"No, I can't eat that much food by myself. Some of the vegetables sold there don't even meet the standards, but I can still eat them." Song Xianglan threw the clean clothes into the empty basin.

She filled two buckets with clean water and rinsed them twice.

The clothes were washed clean.

Song Xianglan carried the basin to a corner of the courtyard.

Spread out the clothes and use wooden clips to secure them one by one to the clothesline.

Water droplets fell along the edge of the fabric, hitting the freshly washed cement floor and leaving a small dark stain.

Nie Erhua pushed open the courtyard gate and peeked inside.

"Third Aunt!" Nie Erhua shouted at the top of her lungs.

"Erhua." Song Xianglan used a wooden clip to secure the last piece of clothing to the clothesline and shook the water off her hands.

Nie Erhua pushed the cart into the yard and kicked down the ladder. "I just came back from my mom's. Wentao went to the county to work with Xiaochuan at the warehouse."

"Where's Wenqiang?" Song Xianglan walked to the sink to wash her hands.

"Wenqiang said he wants to learn to drive." Nie Erhua walked over. "Xiao Chuan said it's a legitimate skill. So let him learn to drive by driving with a familiar master first, and then drive for a transport team for a few months after he gets his license. Once he's mastered the skills, he can stay with the transport team as a driver."

Song Xianglan pulled off a towel and dried her hands.

"Learning to drive is a good thing. Driving a big truck is hard work, but it pays well. Having a skill to rely on gives you peace of mind. What about Xiao Yan?"

Nie Erhua smiled.

"I was just about to tell you about this. Xiao Yan is a shy girl, and she said she wanted to work at your factory. I was thinking that there are too many people and too much gossip in the factory now, and she's a young lady, so she might get bullied. I've decided to let her come work for me first, and sell taro balls with us to get some experience."

Upon hearing this, Song Xianglan's eyebrows shot up.

"I can arrange jobs in the packaging workshop and quality control department. Have Xiaoyan come to me tomorrow, and I'll take her to the factory. There's no reason why I can't even arrange a job for my own niece."

Nie Erhua nodded repeatedly.

"Okay. I'll have her come over to you first thing tomorrow morning. Third Aunt, don't cook dinner tonight, come eat at my place. Let's have a lively meal together."

Song Xianglan glanced at the cold, empty kitchen and was indeed too lazy to bother with anything.

"Okay. I'll tidy up the bedroom quickly and then head over."

"I'll help you tidy up." Nie Erhua deftly rolled up her sleeves and strode into Song Xianglan's room. She picked up a rag and skillfully wiped the table and bedside table. "Let's make the bed first. Tomorrow morning I'll go back and thoroughly clean the second and third floors."
