Chapter 578 Father and son sing in harmony, their schemes becoming increasingly sophisticated.

As the two were talking, the nurse pushed the door open and came in.

"Dr. Cong, the family of the patient in bed 3 is looking for you..." The nurse stopped mid-sentence when she saw Zhou Fang in the room.

Cong Ying immediately stood up. "I'll be right there."

She turned to look at Zhou Fang, "You can go back now, I need to go do my rounds."

Zhou Fang stood up. "Okay. Remember to eat breakfast. See you tonight."

Cong Ying didn't respond to "See you tonight" and hurriedly followed the nurse away.

It was evening.

Cong Ying changed out of her white coat, picked up her bag, and walked out the door.

As soon as I reached the intersection, I saw Zhou Fang standing under a tree on his motorcycle.

"Why are you here again?" Cong Ying walked over.

Zhou Fang patted the back seat, "I'm picking you up from get off work. Erbao said he feels dizzy and a little nauseous, and he's asking Aunt Cong to go check on him."

Cong Ying raised an eyebrow.

"Dizzy? You were perfectly fine yesterday, how come you're dizzy today?"

"Who knows?" Zhou Fang said with a straight face, "Maybe he really isn't feeling well. I've cooked dinner, all your favorite dishes."

Cong Ying glared at him, but she knew exactly what was going on.

This father and son are working together in perfect harmony, their tactics becoming increasingly sophisticated.

……

Zhao Yuan had just returned from training in another city. A while ago, Zhao Guodong specifically selected several workers with good comprehension and honest character to go out for training, and Zhao Yuan was one of them.

After returning to the village from the training, she came to Song Xianglan's house immediately.

Song Xianglan was packing her luggage at home.

Just as I finished packing my luggage, I heard footsteps outside the courtyard gate.

"Aunt Song." Zhao Yuan walked in carrying an exquisite cardboard box.

Song Xianglan wiped her hands and went to greet her, "Yuanyuan's here. Come in and sit down."

Zhao Yuan placed the cardboard box on the table and untied the red ribbon on it. "I bought this cake in the new city. I knew you like sweets, so I brought it for you to try. They said it's a popular cake in the new city right now. I tried it and thought it was delicious too."

Song Xianglan poured a glass of water and brought it over.

"Why are you wasting money like this? Leave the cake for your dad." Song Xianglan could tell from the packaging that it wasn't cheap. "Keep it here for dinner."

"No, Aunt Song," Zhao Yuan smiled. "My dad doesn't like sweets. I saved a piece of this cake for him to give to Aunt Wang."

Song Xianglan had just put the cup down when she stopped.

"Aunt Wang?" Song Xianglan looked at Zhao Yuan. "Which Aunt Wang?"

There are quite a few people in the village with the surname Wang.

But the fact that Zhao Yuan would go to the city specifically to buy a high-end cake as a gift shows that her intentions were very clear.

Zhao Yuan opened the cardboard box.

Inside, several exquisitely shaped pastries were neatly arranged. "This hotel caters to international guests, and their Napoleon cakes are especially delicious. I also bought a piece of tiramisu. Aunt Wang's was also one of these two."

Zhao Yuan looked up and replied with a smile, "Aunt Song, it's Widow Wang."

Song Xianglan's heart skipped a beat.

Anyone with a discerning eye in the village could see that Zhao Guodong and Widow Wang were interested in each other.

However, the two had never made it clear to each other, and with their respective family burdens heavy, neither dared to break the ice. Now, Zhao Yuan, as the daughter, has taken the initiative to bring it up.

"Yuanyuan, what's wrong with you...?" Song Xianglan pulled out a chair and sat down.

Zhao Yuan looked extremely serious. "Aunt Song, my dad raised me with great difficulty. Without him, I would be long gone. I hope he can be happy and marry the person he loves."

Song Xianglan did not respond.

Let her continue.

"I've come today because I have a favor to ask of you," Zhao Yuan said softly. "I'd like to ask you to act as a matchmaker. Go and sound out Aunt Wang's opinion."

Song Xianglan frowned. "Did your father agree to let you go and sound him out?"

"He disagreed; he had concerns. He always felt that his poor health would be a burden on others and on me as well. Besides, Aunt Wang has many children, and her burden is already heavy."

"You know perfectly well that her family has a heavy burden, yet you still dare to ask her for help?" Song Xianglan retorted. "Life is all about the mundane things like firewood, rice, oil, and salt; it's not something that can be solved with a piece of cake."

"I understand," Zhao Yuan said earnestly. "Aunt Song, I'm all grown up now. I have a job and can support myself. I won't be a burden to them."

Zhao Yuan paused for a moment, then her tone became even more serious.

"I'll get married someday too. I can help support Aunt Wang's younger siblings. My dad's entire income goes to Aunt Wang's side, and I don't complain at all."

"I just want my dad to be happy. In my eyes, his happiness is the most important thing."

"Aunt Song, my father has lost so much of his own life because of me. If it weren't for me, he might already have his own children." Zhao Yuan said with deep remorse.

She was sickly from a young age, and even her relatives didn't want her.

Zhao Shengli gave her life.

Song Xianglan said earnestly, "Silly child. Your father would be heartbroken if he knew you thought this way. Sometimes the bond between father and daughter isn't about blood ties; whether he has his own children or not is unimportant to him."

"Your happiness is your father's happiness."

Zhao Yuan smiled, "My dad's happiness is my happiness. So we should all be happy."

Song Xianglan picked up a Napoleon cake from the box and took a bite.

The puff pastry fell onto the table, and the cream was sweet but not cloying.

"It really tastes good." Song Xianglan chewed. "I remember there's a hotel in the new city that caters to foreigners; their Napoleon cake is very famous."

Zhao Yuan nodded, "We couldn't buy them normally. I met a classmate while studying; her family is from Xincheng. Her brother had connections and got us a Napoleon cake."

Song Xianglan ate half of it and put the remaining half down.

"Leave this to me." Song Xianglan stood up and walked into the courtyard.

Song Xianglan raised her voice towards the neighboring courtyard wall.

"Ugly woman, keep the ugly woman."

A noise came from the other side of the wall.

"What are you doing?" Liu Chounv's voice came through the wall.

"Come right away," Song Xianglan called out, then turned and went back into the house.

Less than two minutes later, the courtyard gate was pushed open.

Liu Chounv rushed in like a gust of wind, her cloth shoes leaving muddy footprints.

"What do you want? Why are you in such a hurry? I was just weeding in the vegetable garden," Liu Chounu muttered as she entered the main room.

Song Xianglan pointed to the cardboard box on the table.

"Yuanyuan brought Napoleon cake and tiramisu. She wants you to come and try them."

Liu Chounv didn't hear the first few difficult words at all; all she could think of was the word "try".

Upon seeing Zhao Yuan, Liu Chounv immediately put on a smiling face.

"Yuanyuan's here too." Liu Chounu leaned closer to the table, her eyes fixed on the half-eaten pastry covered in cream. "You silly child. You always send all the good stuff you have to your Aunt Song. I've benefited from it several times."

"Hello, Auntie." Zhao Yuan stood up and greeted her.

Liu Chounv reached out and picked up the half of Napoleon cake that Song Xianglan had left over, and stuffed it into her mouth.

After taking two bites, the ugly woman's eyes widened instantly.

"My goodness!" Liu Chounu exclaimed, slapping her thigh dramatically. "This is so delicious! It's crispy and sweet. I've never eaten anything so good in my life."

Song Xianglan rolled her eyes. "You bumpkin. You've said that dozens, if not hundreds, of times. You even use the same phrase when eating Manjian cake."

"Can this compare to Manjian Gao (a type of fried rice cake)?" Liu Chounu licked the cream crumbs off her fingers, still savoring the taste. "What's this called again?"

"Napoleon," Zhao Yuan reminded her.

"Yes, yes, Napoleon." The ugly girl stared longingly at the last piece of tiramisu in the box. "What's this?"

Tiramisu.

"Save it for dinner." Song Xianglan slapped away the ugly woman's outstretched hand. "I have serious business to discuss with you."
