The sky was getting dark.

Sheng Ruzhi pushed her bicycle through the door.

As soon as she entered the courtyard, she smelled the aroma of braised pork ribs. She glanced into the kitchen and saw three large men carrying dishes toward the main room.

Sheng Ruzhi parked the car against the wall and walked to the kitchen door.

"Come out for a moment." She looked at Liu Yukun.

Liu Yukun put down the plate, took off his apron, and followed him out.

The two walked to the pomegranate tree in the corner of the yard.

The warm yellow light from inside the room shone on the floor.

"Yu Kun," Sheng Ruzhi's tone softened slightly, "would you please go back?"

Liu Yukun stood with his hands in his pockets, looking at her face.

"I'm not going back. I'm going to the fabric market in town tomorrow."

Sheng Ruzhi frowned. "How long will it take to check the fabric?"

Liu Yukun raised his palm.

"Give me half a month," Liu Yukun said in a low voice. "I'll stay here for fifteen days. I'll focus on the fabric business during this time. If you still don't want to talk to me after half a month, I'll leave immediately. I'll never bother you again."

Sheng Ruzhi looked at his stubborn eyes.

She knew Liu Yukun's temperament too well.

This person is like a stubborn donkey; once they get going, not even ten oxen could pull them back.

If you force him to leave, he might actually do something like sleeping on the ground right outside the courtyard gate.

Half a month is not a long time.

Once he gets tired of the cold treatment and the novelty wears off, he'll find it boring. He's so outstanding, there will be plenty of nice girls who like him.

"Okay." Sheng Ruzhi nodded. "You said it yourself."

"I said it." Liu Yukun smiled, his eyes shining.

Sheng Ruzhi turned around and quickly walked into the inner room.

Liu Yukun stood under the tree and let out a long sigh of relief.

Half a month is enough.

Once that door is opened, he will never go out again.

Inside the house, Sheng Dawei shouted at the top of his lungs.

"Xiao Liu, wash your hands and eat."

"Hey, bro's here."

Liu Yukun walked briskly up the steps.

……

Zhuo Yun has been staying at home for the past two days, and she feels very irritable.

The factory machines are shut down and there are no orders.

The workshop foreman made a loudspeaker announcement, telling everyone to go home and rest, and to wait for further notice when they could return to work.

Many people around me have lost their jobs.

At this age, with elderly parents to care for and young children to raise, even taking a day off feels like cutting off a piece of my flesh.

People used to think that dual-income families had an easy life, with nothing to worry about, since they could make up for it with their monthly salary.

Although Dawei's salary is paid monthly, the lack of income immediately made life tighter.

We can't keep relying on our parents for financial support.

Zhuo Yun sat in the courtyard, looking somewhat listless.

Liu Yukun came out carrying a notebook.

"Sister-in-law, are you free today? How about taking me to the fabric market around here?"

Zhuo Yun was just looking for a way to vent his energy, so he said, "Okay, we're just killing time anyway, I'll take you for a walk."

About five or six miles from the town center, there is a spontaneously formed market.

Liu Yukun originally thought it was just a bunch of street vendors, but when he arrived, he found that the place was even more bustling than some wholesale markets in Shanghai.

The variety of fabrics far exceeded his expectations.

"We've long since stopped relying on state-owned textile factories here." Zhuo Yun pointed to the rows of shops on both sides. "Many families have bought looms and started family workshops. Those rare fabrics on the market, the state-owned factories didn't even produce them before the family workshops did."

"The individual economy is very active here, unlike the trade-oriented economy in my hometown of Qingyang. Most of the businesses here are workshops."

The two entered a store.

Zhuo Yun casually pulled over a piece of cloth.

"This is called plain weave, it's sturdy and durable, usually used for bed sheets and duvet covers. And look at this corduroy, it's very popular with young people now, it's used to make warm pants in winter." Zhuo Yun touched the fabric. "This is plaid, it sells well for shirts and skirts. As for this kind of stiff denim, it's the most fashionable right now."

Liu Yukun touched each piece of material, noting its characteristics and price.

He's a real goofball when he's messing around, but he's incredibly patient when it comes to making money.

His earnest study posture caught Zhuo Yungao's eye a few times.

"Sister-in-law, what's added to this stretchy denim?" Liu Yukun asked, pointing to a piece of navy blue fabric in the corner.

Zhuo Yun squeezed it with his hand, but couldn't answer.

"I can't say for sure. I'll go ask someone." Zhuo Yun turned and went next door, and soon brought back an old master with gray hair.

The experienced craftsman glanced at the fabric and began to explain that it contained spandex fibers.

Liu Yukun listened attentively and nodded repeatedly.

Around noon, Liu Yukun turned around and went to a roadside convenience store to pick up two packs of Hongtashan cigarettes and gave them to the old man. He also bought a gift for Zhuo Yun.

"That won't do," Zhuo Yun quickly refused.

"My sister-in-law helped me make the connection, and the master explained things to me; it's the proper way," Liu Yukun said with a smooth smile. "Take this, otherwise I'll be too embarrassed to ask for advice next time."

The experienced craftsman happily accepted it.

Zhuo Yun thought to herself that this person knew how to handle things and had given her plenty of face.

I spent the whole day observing the market.

evening.

Liu Yukun glanced at his watch. "Sister-in-law, is Ruzhi about to get off work? I'll go pick her up."

After a day of interaction, Zhuo Yun had figured out a bit about this man's temperament. He was quick-witted, resourceful, and a fast learner. Most importantly, he hadn't mentioned Sheng Ruzhi at all that day, focusing solely on his work.

"I'll take you there."

Zhuo Yun led him toward the post office.

Zhuo Yun stopped a block away from the post office.

"You wait here." Zhuo Yun looked at the post office door. "I have a few things to tell you."

Liu Yukun straightened up. "Sister-in-law, please speak."

"Our Zhizhi has been pampered by her family since she was little. I entered the Sheng family early, and when I was introduced to Dawei, she was still a little kid." Zhuo Yun said with a long face, "I like my sister-in-law, so I hope she is doing well."

"I see."

"You may not really understand." Zhuo Yun stared into his eyes. "If you can give her happiness and a stable life, I'll wholeheartedly support you in pursuing her. But if it's just a passing fancy, then a short, sharp pain is worse than a long, drawn-out one. You should get lost now."

Zhuo Yun glanced around.

"This is a small place, unlike Haishi. We see each other all the time, and any little thing that happens in one house spreads like wildfire. If you ruin her reputation, how will she face anyone in town?"

"I won't let you off the hook either."

"Don't worry, sister-in-law." He said solemnly, "If I hadn't made up my mind, I wouldn't have come all this way."

Zhuo Yun looked at him for a few seconds. "You decide for yourself. I'm going home now; I still need to cook dinner."

Zhuo Yun had just left.

Sheng Ruzhi came out of the post office right after.

Liu Yukun stopped his brand-new red Jialing motorcycle by the roadside, one foot on the ground.

Sheng Ruzhi walked over.

What are you doing here?

Liu Yukun patted the back seat, "My sister-in-law took me to look at fabrics all day. I figured you should be off work by now, so I came over to pick you up for dinner."

Sheng Ruzhi looked away from him.

"Zhizhi, I've really learned something new. This little place of yours is full of hidden talents; the variety of fabrics is much more complete than I imagined," Liu Yukun said to himself. "I think this fabric business has potential. As for the specifics of how to operate it, we'll have to see how it goes."
