The Yang family was in complete chaos.

To save trouble, and also to avoid any unforeseen complications, Uncle Yang decided to take it easy.

They urged Yang Jianjun to wash Yang Dashan's body and change his clothes, as if it were a matter of life and death.

The clothes weren't new; they were old clothes that were dug out from the bottom of a trunk.

"Hurry up, what are you dawdling for? The feng shui master is already waiting on the back mountain. Get the coffin ready quickly." Uncle Yang was giving instructions, but he didn't move his feet, keeping a safe distance from the pigsty, afraid of getting any bad luck.

Several strong men from the Yang family came over to help, covering their noses.

They hurriedly stuffed the stiff Yang Dashan into the thin-skinned coffin.

The Song family's side is peaceful, though.

When Liu Chounu and Liu Dahua heard the news, they were afraid that Song Xianglan would be upset, so they came over early in the morning to keep her company.

Shen's mother did not come downstairs either.

He stayed upstairs, guarding Shen Huijun and her two children, never leaving their side.

"Xianglan, do you think Yang Dashan's spirit will come back here?" Liu Chounu's eyes drifted towards the door, muttering to herself, "I heard he died unwillingly."

Song Xianglan was picking vegetables in the yard.

Upon hearing this, the vegetable leaf in his hand made a crisp "crack" sound.

She threw the vegetables into the bowl, a sneer on her face.

"That coward was beaten to a pulp by me when he was alive. If he dares to send his soul back after he's dead, I'll let him taste what it's like to be soaked in shit and piss in a coffin. I just happen to have a bucket full of shit that I don't know where to dump."

The ugly woman shrank back.

He chuckled twice. "You have such a menacing aura, even ghosts would be afraid of you."

Liu Dahua said with a smug look, "By the way, I heard that Zhang Yujuan has gone mad. She howled all night in the Wang family's storage room, saying that Yang Dashan came to take her life. Zhang Mahua went to Widow Wang's house early this morning to tell us."

Song Xianglan didn't even lift her eyelids.

"They were a match made in heaven; they tormented each other while alive, and even in death they wouldn't find peace."

Da Mu came running in, panting. "Auntie. The Yang family sent someone to ask Tingting to go and wear mourning clothes. They also said they'd call Brother Xiangdong, and even Sister-in-law Huijun has to go."

Upon hearing this, Song Xianglan's anger flared up instantly.

We arrived at the door.

Before Yang's nephew could even open his mouth, he was met with a barrage of angry words from Song Xianglan:

"Bullshit! Xiang Dong is my adopted son. What does he have to do with your Yang family?"

Yang Dashan himself signed and affixed his seal; the letter severing ties is still being held at the brigade headquarters.

You still have the nerve to tell them to go? Do you want me to break your legs?

The nephew was severely scolded.

He shrank back, not daring to utter a sound.

"As for Tingting, even students aren't allowed to go. Get out!"

"mom."

A soft call came from behind.

Song Tingting came out of the house, her face pale.

"Mom, I'll go." Song Tingting walked to Song Xianglan's side. "I'm not going to mourn. I'm going to tell him what it means to deserve what you get."

"Tingting..."

Looking at her daughter's stubborn expression, Song Xianglan felt a pang of sadness. "That kind of scumbag isn't worth a second glance."

"I have to go."

Song Tingting gritted her teeth, her eyes not red, but filled with hatred. "I won't be at peace until I see him buried in the ground. I want to tell him with my own mouth how well I've lived my life, so that he can't close his eyes in peace even in death."

Song Xianglan couldn't stop her, and could only sigh:

"Okay, Mom will go with you."

"No need, I'll go myself," Song Tingting refused decisively.

We arrived at Yang Jianjun's house.

The coffin has already been set up.

The area was surrounded by villagers who came to watch the spectacle.

Song Tingting came alone, without wearing mourning clothes or any other attire, just dressed in ordinary clothes, which made the Yang family members' faces look grim.

Chen Xiuqin was about to open her mouth and curse a couple of times for being unfilial.

Uncle Yang glared at him.

Who dares to mess with the Song family now?

Song Tingting walked to the front of the mourning tent, knelt down and kowtowed four times.

She held a handful of paper money in her hand.

Slowly throw them into the brazier.

The firelight illuminated her young yet indifferent face.

"Dad, this is the last time I'm calling you. Will you hear me?"

Song Tingting's voice was not loud.

"You've done too many wicked things in your life. Will the things your family burned for you be stolen by other ghosts halfway through? You were a coward, selfish, and vicious person while alive. You'll probably be a miserable ghost even after you die."

The surroundings fell silent instantly.

The faces of Yang's relatives turned green.

Song Tingting ignored it and continued throwing paper into the brazier, her eyes fixed on the flickering flames.

"Don't even think about entering my dreams, and don't expect me to change my surname. My surname is Song, and it will be Song for the rest of my life."

I'll take good care of my mother. As for you... you can suffer in the underworld. That's what you call getting what you deserve.

After saying that, she patted the dust off her hands.

Without even turning his head, he turned and left.

Yang Jianjun was trembling with anger. Pointing at Song Tingting's retreating figure, he said, "What... what kind of talk is this! Is this something a daughter should say? It's so unfilial."

"I'll come back when I get up the mountain. As long as the eldest son is filial, that's enough."

Song Tingting waved her hand.

An understanding aunt from the Yang family sighed, "Tingting was almost sold by you for a dowry, it's normal for her to harbor resentment. She's about to be buried, so let's say less."

A male member of the Yang family roared, "That disobedient and unfilial brat will never amount to anything. I wonder what kind of good end she'll have."

The funeral was held in a very rushed manner.

The body was not kept at Yang Jianjun's house.

Uncle Yang directed the people to lift the coffin, without even hiring any musicians, and just dragged it up the mountain with a clatter.

Song Xianglan asked someone to buy a small cart full of paper money.

The old people at the village entrance stared in disbelief.

"Wow, Song the butcher is really going all out. He's been cursing so fiercely, but he's actually doing his filial duty for Tingting and Xiangdong."

"How much money must have been spent on all this gold and silver? These two kids are really kind-hearted."

When we arrived at the cemetery on the mountain, the pit had already been prepared.

Song Xianglan parked the cart next to the grave and asked Song Tingting to burn the offerings.

When the Yang family saw the truckload of goods, they were all dumbfounded.

"This...this is joss paper?" Chen Xiuqin's eyes almost popped out of their sockets. "Newly deceased ghosts need more silver paper and less joss paper. New ghosts don't need joss paper at all."

This gold paper looks expensive, but if we burn it for Yang Dashan, it will make him envious.

Everything was stolen, and he was still penniless.

Song Tingting ignored everything and started a fire.

The gold paper burned brightly, and the flames leaped high.

"Let him watch and worry," Song Xianglan snorted.

The burning is over.

The Yang family had just breathed a sigh of relief and were preparing to pack their things and leave.

Song Xianglan, who had just disappeared, brought back a manure bucket from somewhere.

She walked a few steps to the new grave mound, and a stench that filled the air instantly filled the air.

The manure had been fermenting for several days.

"Yang Dashan, if you had stayed put in the Northwest labor camp, you might have lived a few more years. Why did you have to come back here and try to disgust my son and daughter?"

Song Xianglan cursed.

"Splash—"

Half a bucket of yellowish-brown excrement was poured solidly onto the newly piled grave mound.

The sight of the water flowing down the mound was absolutely stunning.

"Ah..." Chen Xiuqin screamed, covering her nose and backing away.

Uncle Yang's face turned as black as the bottom of a pot.

"Song Xianglan. Respect for the dead is paramount. What are you doing?"

"Fertilizer, please." Song Xianglan tossed the empty bucket on the ground, looking refreshed. "This is my farewell gift to him. I'll pour a bucket of fertilizer here whenever I'm in a bad mood, and I'll pour a bucket of fertilizer here whenever I'm in a good mood."

"Serves him right for trying to scheme against Xiang Dong and Tingting even on his deathbed!"

After saying that, she pushed the empty cart and swaggered down the mountain.

The Yang family was left standing there bewildered, unsure whether to curse or wipe their hands.

After descending the mountain, I'm almost at the intersection near my home.

Liu Dahua and Liu Chounu were already waiting there.

The ugly woman pulled her around and led her to the beach, saying they couldn't go straight home.

"Xianglan, quickly get rid of the bad luck. I brought a celebratory car to help you."

Song Xianglan wasn't buying it at all. "He couldn't beat me even when he was alive, let alone after he's dead. If he dares to come, I'll beat him to a pulp."

"I know you're amazing, but we're just hoping for good luck." Liu Chounu still held up the "Happy New Year" car and gestured it three times in front of her chest and four times behind her back, while muttering a sentence.

Liu Dahua laughed so hard she almost fell over. "Our village will have another attraction from now on: the Song Xianglan Manure-Splashing Zone."

……

Once this matter is over and things have calmed down...

The house was finally quiet for a few days.

The two children of the Xiang family are about to turn one month old.

With family matters on her mind, Shen's mother discussed things with Song Xianglan:

"Mother-in-law, I'd like to go back for a few days. Huijun is going to the new city after her postpartum confinement period. Besides finding a nanny to help take care of the baby, I also need to go with her to help keep an eye on things. I was thinking of going back to bring my clothes and belongings back before the baby's one-month celebration."

"My dear in-law, you're very thoughtful." Song Xianglan knew she couldn't stay in the new city long-term.

"Zhou Fang should be back in a few days. I'll call him now and ask him to stop by your house to pick up your things so you don't have to make the trip."

Upon hearing this, Shen's mother nodded repeatedly.

"That's great! I was actually a little scared of the long and tiring journey back and forth."

Song Xianglan also had a short temper.

He went to the brigade headquarters immediately.

The call went through, and it sounded quiet on Zhou Fang's end.

"Auntie, my classes are over for today, and I bought tickets for the day after tomorrow." Zhou Fang's voice was filled with joy. "I heard Xiang Dong became a father, a boy and a girl? Have they chosen names yet?"

"Get up, get up."

Song Xianglan smiled broadly. "Starting from the east, the younger brother is named Song Shiyan, and the younger sister is named Song Shiyi. It means 'peace and tranquility throughout the world, and the times are auspicious,' which sounds very refined."

"A good name," Zhou Fang commented.

The two chatted for a few more minutes about everyday things, but neither of them mentioned An Xiyang.

I hung up the phone.

Zhou Fang paid the money and turned to go back to his dormitory to pack his things.

It was the time when classes ended on the Tongda campus.

People come and go.

Zhou Fang was carrying a military green bag.

I hadn't gone far from the school gate when someone blocked my way.

She was a round-faced girl with short, ear-length hair, and looked quite neat.

Zhou Fang paused, his brows furrowing.

Who are you?

This girl looks very unfamiliar.

"Hello, Zhou Fang." The girl smiled, her eyes crinkling, and she looked quite lively. "My name is Tian Ying, and I'm Fu Qingnian's cousin."

Upon hearing the name "Fu Qingnian".

Zhou Fang's previously gentle face instantly fell, looking as if it were covered in frost.

Tian Ying seemed oblivious to his cold expression, took a step forward with her hands behind her back, and said with a grin:

"You seem to dislike my cousin a lot? Do you know that he just got accepted and is going to the US as an exchange student soon?"

Zhou Fang's eyes grew even colder, and he walked around her.

He spat out four words curtly, "None of my business."

Tian Ying wasn't angry. She turned around and watched his retreating figure as he strode away.

He then cupped his hands to his mouth, lowered his voice, and said, "Hey! Why are you swearing? I haven't told you yet, even my cousin doesn't know west Yang's address."
