Xia Zhiheng stood at the intersection until almost midnight before he saw Liu Fugui humming a song as he walked back.

"Liu Fugui"

Holy crap!

Liu Fugui knew Xia Zhiheng; he had met him once before when he was arrested and taken to the police station where Xia Zhiheng worked.

Upon seeing that it was Xia Zhiheng, he took off running. He had just stolen a woman's gold earring with a friend last week, and he thought Xia Zhiheng was here to arrest him because of that.

Xia Zhiheng didn't expect Liu Fugui to react so strongly when he saw him, so he wasn't about to let him get away and immediately chased after him.

Liu Fugui ran ahead, panting heavily, and thought to himself: "It's over, it's over, I'm definitely going to be arrested and go to jail this time."

Xia Zhiheng was physically fit and caught up with Liu Fugui in no time, grabbing him by the back of his collar.

"Why are you running? I have something to ask you."

Xia Zhiheng shouted. Liu Fugui's legs went weak, and he collapsed to the ground, sobbing.

"Zhiheng, please let me go for my sake, because I was your former uncle. I promise I'll never do it again."

"I want to ask you about Yang Yunxian."

Liu Fugui was stunned, stopped crying, and looked up with a blank expression.

"Huh? What about Yang Yunxian? Wasn't she dead? What could possibly be wrong?"

When Yang Yunxian died in prison, the prison notified Liu Fugui. Considering that the two had been husband and wife, they wanted him to go and collect Yang Yunxian's body, but Liu Fugui refused without even thinking about it.

Xia Zhiheng pulled him up from the ground. "Stop talking nonsense, let's find a place to have a proper talk."

Liu Fugui dusted himself off and said, "Sure, but I'm hungry. Could you treat me to something to eat? There's a seafood restaurant across the street that I've heard is pretty good. I haven't tried it yet, so could you treat me to a meal there?"

Taking the opportunity, Liu Fugui made a request: the seafood restaurant was too expensive, and he had wanted to eat there for a long time but had never been able to.

"I can treat you to a meal, but you can only eat boxed lunches at the stall in front."

Xia Zhiheng looked at Liu Fugui coldly and said that if he dared to take the opportunity to threaten him, Xia Zhiheng would not mind talking somewhere else.

"I... okay! I want an extra chicken leg."

When Liu Fugui met Xia Zhiheng's eyes, he dared not mention going to the seafood restaurant again.

"Can"

The two arrived at the place selling lunch boxes. Xia Zhiheng bought Liu Fugui a lunch box with a chicken leg, and bought one for himself as well.

Finding a corner to sit down, Xia Zhiheng ate while asking, "Does Yang Yunxian have any health problems? And why did you agree to divorce her in the first place?"

After all, Yang Yunxian had a good job. If he remembers correctly, Liu Fugui was unemployed at the time. He was supposed to be waiting to take over his father's job, but even after divorcing Yang Yunxian, his father still hadn't given him the job.

Liu Fugui, munching on a chicken leg, mumbled, "No, I don't think so. I'm not sure. I don't want a divorce either, but your mother and Xia Guoan gave me a sum of money and threatened to arrest me if I didn't divorce Yang Yunxian."

Xia Zhiheng frowned and pressed, "Impossible. My uncle isn't that kind of person. Besides, the police can't arrest people without reason."

Liu Fugui's eyes flashed, and after thinking for a moment, he felt that there was nothing he couldn't say now.

"I won't lie to you, back then I got involved with a widow. What? Your mother and Yang Yunxian didn't tell you about this?"

"Back then, it was your mother who brought people to catch them in the act of adultery. Of course, you were only a few years old then; how could she possibly tell you these things?"

Back then, being caught in adultery was a huge disgrace. Liu Fugui continued, "When your mother brought people over, there were many people waiting at the door to watch the show."

If I don't agree to divorce Yang Yunxian, my affair with that widow will become public knowledge, and I will be unable to hold my head up high.

Yang Yunxia said that if I didn't get a divorce, she would take this matter to the commune and make sure I never had a good life again. I had no choice but to agree.

Xia Zhiheng fell silent; the things his mother had done were becoming increasingly unfathomable to him.

"Who gave you the money? How much?"

"Yang Yunxia gave it to me, saying the money came from Xia Guoan. Your uncle is really generous for Yang Yunxian, giving me a full six hundred yuan."

Liu Fugui thought he wouldn't get the money after being caught cheating by Yang Yunxia. Unexpectedly, after his divorce from Yang Yunxian, Yang Yunxia gave him 600 yuan and told him that the money was compensation from Xia Guoan.

He figured that after his divorce from Yang Yunxian, Xia Guoan would immediately marry her. He was even waiting for them to get married so he could go to their house, cause trouble, and demand money from them.

But they waited and waited! They still hadn't gotten married. It turned out it was all Yang Yunxian's wishful thinking. He even caused Xia Guoan's wife's death. When Liu Fugui heard this, he couldn't understand it.

"I always thought that the child in Yang Yunxian's belly was Xia Guoan's, but I didn't expect it to be true."

"You're talking nonsense. My uncle would never do such a thing."

Xia Zhiheng retorted angrily, how could his uncle possibly have feelings for a married woman?

"To be honest, my misunderstanding of Yang Yunxian was thanks to your mother. If she hadn't come to my house and told me that she saw Yang Yunxian and Xia Guoan coming out of her room disheveled, I wouldn't have thought that way."

Xia Zhiheng immediately deflated. Yes! It was all his mother Yang Yunxia's doing.

"I still can't understand what good it would do Yang Yunxia to break me up with Yang Yunxian."

"Think about it carefully again, does Yang Yunxian have any illness?"

"Probably not. Maybe I should go back and ask my mom and sister-in-law. Perhaps they know something about Yang Yunxian."

Liu Fugui had no idea about all that; the family hadn't divided their assets yet. He would go out at night and not return until almost dawn. Yang Yunxian, his mother, and his sister-in-law spent most of their time together.

"Okay, go back and ask them quickly. I'll wait for you at the intersection."

Xia Zhiheng stood up, tidied up his lunchbox, and then took the lunchbox from Liu Fugui's hand.

"Hey, Zhiheng, I'm still not full!"

There was only a little bit of rice left in the lunchbox. Liu Fugui looked at the stall owner, hoping that Xia Zhiheng would buy him another lunchbox.

"Stop talking nonsense and go home to ask your mother and sister-in-law."

"I heard Yang Yunxian died of illness in prison. Could it be that she didn't die of illness?"

Seeing how much Xia Zhiheng valued Yang Yunxian's matter, Liu Fugui asked curiously.

"Liu Fugui, don't ask questions you shouldn't ask. Hurry up and go home."

Seeing Xia Zhiheng's unfriendly expression, Liu Fugui dared not ask any more questions and ran home in a flash. Xia Zhiheng returned to the intersection to wait, his mind filled with many thoughts.

He never imagined his mother would do such a thing, let alone that there were so many hidden stories behind it all. Ultimately, Yang Yunxian's actions were also a result of his mother's sins.

About half an hour later, Liu Fugui came running back, panting.

"Zhiheng, I've found out. My mom said Yang Yunxian used to be as strong as an ox, so it's impossible for him to be sick."

Xia Zhiheng nodded and then asked, "Is there anything else? For example, are there any special habits or anything that seems amiss?"

Liu Fugui scratched his head. "I don't know. My mom's in her sixties or seventies, how could she remember so much?"

"Didn't you ask your sister-in-law?" Xia Zhiheng asked, frowning.

"No, my sister-in-law isn't home. She just took her grandson out to play."

"Then go back and ask for me. I'll come back to you tomorrow. Ask carefully, or you'll regret it."

Liu Fugui shuddered at Xia Zhiheng's gaze and quickly nodded, "Zhiheng, don't worry, I will definitely ask him properly and give you a definite answer tomorrow."

Xia Zhiheng patted him on the shoulder. "It had better be that way. If you dare to be frivolous with me, you'll be in for a world of hurt."
