Around midnight, Xia Yichu put on a set of black clothes and headed towards Luo Hao's house. She walked quietly past Pei Shizhou's house, afraid of being discovered.

Fortunately, they weren't discovered when they arrived at the Luo family's house. Today is the 11th, there's a moon, but it's not very bright.

She put on gloves, took out a bamboo ladder from her spatial storage, covered her face with a cloth, and climbed directly to Xia Guofang and Luo Hao's room on the second floor. After getting up there, she put the ladder back into her spatial storage and climbed in through the window.

Xia Guofang's eldest son is thirteen years old this year, and his room is next door. Afraid that he would discover Xia Yichu, she went over first and locked the door from the inside. If she was discovered, she could hide in her spatial dimension.

She then drew the curtains inside the house, turned on the flashlight, and walked to the cabinet that Liu Yaohui had opened last time. Xia Guofang didn't know that she had too much money and hadn't locked the cabinet where she kept her valuables. Xia Yichu easily opened the cabinet and picked up the bottom box.

There were eight gold bars inside. If she took half, Xia Guofang would surely notice something was missing. Just as she unlocked the door and was about to leave, she suddenly heard a sound at the door and immediately hid in her spatial dimension.

The moment she hid inside, Xia Guofang's room door was opened, and Liu Yaohui walked in.

"My mom is such a scaredy-cat. Everyone said Xia Guofang would never notice the jewelry was missing. I took three gold necklaces and two rings, and several days passed without her noticing."

As soon as Liu Yaohui came in, he closed the door and turned on the light, muttering to himself. He had come to see his mother around 10 a.m. today and learned that Xia Guofang wasn't coming home today and that Luo Hao was away on a business trip.

He coaxed his mother to let him stay. At first, his mother refused, but she agreed to let him stay only after he promised to leave at around 6 a.m. the next morning.

After his mother fell asleep, Liu Yaohui went upstairs to steal jewelry. He had no choice; he had gambled away all the money he had on him, as well as the money he made from selling the stolen jewelry.

This was Liu Yaohui's third attempt to steal jewelry, and he was much bolder this time, stealing two gold bracelets, two gold necklaces, a pair of gold rings, and two pairs of gold earrings. In Liu Yaohui's eyes, gold was the most valuable thing; he didn't even glance at the jade, diamonds, pearls, or anything else.

"Damn it, Xia Guofang is such a spendthrift, buying so much stuff. Luo Hao is an idiot too, letting her buy all this junk."

Despite his cursing, Liu Yaohui stuffed the jewelry into his pocket, quickly put the items back in their original places, turned off the light, and left.

"Xiaohui, what are you doing upstairs?"

Liu Yaohui walked to the stairwell and met Xu Yumei, who shone a flashlight on his face.

"Oh my god, Mom, you scared me to death! Why are you scaring me like this in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?"

"Did you go upstairs again to get Xia Guofang's jewelry?"

Xu Yumei lowered her voice, afraid of waking Luo Yuekai and Luo Yuechuan. Luo Yuekai was as easy to fool as Xia Guofang, while Luo Yuechuan was more like Luo Hao; although young, he was very clever.

"Mom, no, I just couldn't sleep and was taking a walk."

Seeing his demeanor, Xu Yumei understood everything. She was the one who resolved every mess her son made. What she couldn't understand was that he had only suffered a little when his father had just died; since she came to the Luo family, he had never lacked for food or drink.

How could he start stealing while still in school? His life is so much better than the other kids in the village. She's only brought him to Beijing a short time ago, and he's already taken almost ten thousand yuan from her. Why does he keep stealing Xia Guofang's jewelry? If they're caught, both mother and son will be in jail.

"Take the things out."

"Mom, I really didn't take it."

Xu Yumei reached directly into his pocket and, sure enough, found something there. Liu Yaohui hurriedly pushed his mother away, then, ignoring her falling to the ground, opened the door and fled.

Xu Yumei bumped her back against the sofa. The Luo family's sofa was made of wood, and the pain made her gasp.

"Aunt Mei, why are you sitting on the ground?"

Luo Yuechuan came down with a flashlight, turned on the light next to the stairs, and then went over to help Xu Yumei up.

"Xiao Chuan, I got up to use the restroom and accidentally fell. Why did you get up too?"

Xu Yumei was relieved that her son had escaped, otherwise Luo Yuechuan would have found out.

"I think I heard a shout just now. I thought I misheard, but I heard it again when I was about to go to sleep. I was afraid something had happened, so I came down to check. Aunt Mei, why is the door open?"

A gust of wind blew in, and Luo Yuechuan realized something was wrong and looked out to see the door wide open.

"I heard a noise too, so I got up to open the door and went out to see what was going on. Then I came back to turn on the light, but the floor was a bit slippery and I fell."

Xu Yumei's mind worked quickly, and she immediately came up with an explanation.

"No, Aunt Mei, why did you just tell me you fell because you needed to use the restroom!"

Xu Yumei knew that Luo Yuechuan was not easy to fool, but fortunately she immediately came up with a solution.

"Xiao Chuan, I only said that because I was afraid you would be scared."

"But there's a light next to the main door that can be turned on, so we don't need to walk back to turn it on, right?"

Xu Yumei's face stiffened. This brat's questions just wouldn't stop. She'd only just woken up, yet her mind was so clear, and she'd noticed so many flaws.

"Yes, I don't need to walk back to turn on the lights, but I'm not sure if the sound is inside or outside, so I'm thinking of turning on the lights inside to check."

Xu Yumei's words sounded normal, so why did Luo Yuechuan feel that something was off?

"Xiao Chuan, you have to study tomorrow, go back to sleep."

"Okay, Aunt Mei, are you alright?" Luo Yuechuan asked without thinking much, showing concern for Xu Yumei's health.

"It's okay, you'll be fine after a rest. Go to sleep."

"Okay, I'll go close the door."

Luo Yuechuan went over, closed and locked the door, then went upstairs to sleep. Xu Yumei breathed a sigh of relief when she saw him finally go upstairs; she felt both angry and anxious towards Liu Yaohui.

Her back hurt a lot, and she couldn't chase after her son. She didn't know where he could go so late at night. Xu Yumei rested for a while and slowly walked back to her room. She had to lie down because she couldn't apply the ointment herself.

Xia Yichu saw from the window that they had all gone home. She had overheard Liu Yaohui leaving in the space earlier. She immediately came out, climbed through the window, and retrieved her ladder.

She was listening to Xu Yumei and her son talking from the window downstairs when Liu Yaohui ran out, which startled her, but luckily she wasn't discovered.

In the morning, Xia Yichu stretched and got out of bed, picking up her watch from the bedside table to see it was exactly ten o'clock. She quickly got up to brush her teeth and wash her face. Just as she finished, she heard someone knocking on her door. She grabbed her backpack and went to open it.

"Xiao Chu, why did it take you so long to open the door?"

Pei Shizhou and Xia Zhiheng were outside the door. If Xia Yichu didn't open the door, the two of them would try to climb over the wall and go in.

"I was just washing my face. I told you not to come see me this morning. I'm going to your house now."

Xia Zhiheng looked helpless. Qingyan got up early to wait for Xiao Chu, but when it was almost ten o'clock and she still hadn't come home, she was a little worried and asked Xia Zhiheng to come and check on her.

When Xia Zhiheng arrived at Xia Yichu's house, he saw Pei Shizhou there as well. He questioned Pei Shizhou about why he was at Xia Yichu's house so early in the morning. Pei Shizhou replied that he had bought the plane tickets and came to tell Xia Yichu her flight time.

"Yichu, the flight is at four o'clock this afternoon."

Pei Shizhou waited for Xia Yichu outside her door for a full hour, knowing she was sleeping, but he didn't knock. Xia Zhiheng had come over earlier and told him not to knock and wake Xia Yichu, but Xia Zhiheng wouldn't listen.

"Okay, I understand. I'll give you the money later."

"Okay, I'll be going now."

Pei Shizhou knew Xia Yichu disliked owing favors and would be angry if he didn't accept the money. He was going to the company now; he had called Gu Yunting back yesterday. He planned to arrive around noon and wait for him at the company.
