In the morning, Lin Xingyao got up to buy breakfast; she hadn't gone home the night before. She slept soundly at Xia Yichu's place, sleeping until dawn.

"Xiao Chu, I've left your breakfast here. I'm going to work."

Last night, Xia Yichu saw her sister bring An'an to the guesthouse to find her, saying that she wouldn't be going back that night. She immediately went to buy An'an formula, bottles, and some changes of clothes.

"Sis, go ask for a day off today, I'll take you somewhere."

"Okay, no need to ask for leave from the hospital, just make a phone call."

Lin Xingyao didn't want to see the Huang family for the time being. Huang's mother was staying at her house, and the atmosphere at home was becoming increasingly oppressive. Even An'an wasn't very happy. If An'an laughed too loudly, Huang's mother would stare at him with a heavy gaze.

An'an seemed to sense her malice and didn't smile much. Lin Xingyao went to make a phone call, Xia Yichu got up to brush her teeth and wash her face, and An'an was still sleeping.

"Sis, let's walk there, it's nearby."

Just now, Xia Yichu woke An'an up to feed him milk powder, and he didn't cry. After he finished drinking, she took Lin Xingyao and her daughter out.

"You're being so mysterious. Now, can you tell me where you're taking me?"

"No, you'll see when the time comes."

Huang Shaosong went to the hospital yesterday by bicycle to look for Lin Xingyao but couldn't find her. He had to go back to the hospital to take care of his father, so he didn't search for long. He figured his wife must have gone to find Xia Yichu, which put him at ease.

This morning, he didn't have to go to work and waited at the hospital for Lin Xingyao to arrive. However, half an hour had passed since his shift started, and she still hadn't come. Later, his wife's colleague told him that Lin Xingyao had taken the day off.

"Shaosong, what's wrong with you today?"

Unable to wait for his wife, Huang Shaosong had no choice but to return to take care of his father. His father saw his son sitting silently on the bed, looking deeply worried.

"Dad, I'm fine."

"Is your mom causing trouble again?"

Huang Shaosong remained silent, and his father understood. This was compounded by the fact that his daughter-in-law hadn't come to see him today; previously, when she came to work at the hospital, her first stop was his ward.

"Shaosong, process my discharge. I want to go home."

No one in the family, except him, could scold Huang's mother. He wanted to go back to his own home and bring his wife back with him. As for An'an finding him a reliable caregiver, things couldn't go on like this. If things continued like this, his son's family would be torn apart by his wife sooner or later.

"Dad, your health..."

"I'm fine, I feel much better. If you're not going to process my discharge, I'll go myself."

"Dad, don't get up, I'll go."

Huang Shaosong helped his father with the discharge procedures and even called Huang Shaogang to come pick him up on his tricycle.

"Lin Xingyao, who are you trying to fool by running away from home! Do you think the Huang family is afraid of you? If you have the guts, don't ever set foot in the Huang family again. I'll find my son a college student who's younger and prettier than you..."

The three members of the Huang family, father and sons, heard Huang's mother cursing and swearing before they even reached their doorstep. Several neighbors stood at the door, chatting and eating sunflower seeds.

"Teacher Huang has been discharged from the hospital! How are you feeling?" one of the neighbors greeted Huang's father.

"It's okay, I'm all better now."

When Huang's father and his family returned, the neighbors felt uncomfortable standing in front of Huang's house, so everyone dispersed and went home.

"You slut, you slut! It's all your fault my daughter disappeared, and my son must have had the worst luck in eight lifetimes to marry you. Xiaomin is right, you're a vixen, a wicked devil..."

The father and his two sons entered and saw Huang's mother, looking mad, cursing at a pile of clothes—Lin Xingyao's and An'an's clothes.

When Huang's mother woke up in the morning, she didn't see Lin Xingyao, and no one was in her room either. Remembering that neither she nor her son had returned last night, she became furious and dragged their clothes out to the yard, throwing them on the ground to burn later, all the while cursing Lin Xingyao.

"Enough, Chen Yanhuan, are you crazy? What are you trying to do?"

Huang Shaosong went over and picked up his wife and child's clothes. He really couldn't understand it. His sister was missing, and they were somehow involved, but his wife was the most innocent. All the decisions were made by him and his father; Xingyao had never offered a single opinion.

"Huang Shaosong, put them down, I'm going to burn them all."

Huang's mother grabbed Huang Shaosong to stop him from taking the clothes, and Huang's father went over and slapped her, which finally calmed her down.

"You hit me! You actually hit me!"

The mother felt a chill in her heart as her two sons watched all this with indifferent expressions.

"Come on, come home with me." Mr. Huang went up to grab her hand, but she shook him off.

"No, I want to live at my son's house. If he dares not let me stay, I'll cause trouble at the bank and the hospital, and make sure they have no face left in the world."

Huang Shaosong felt a chill run down his spine when he heard what his mother said; she was trying to ruin him.

"Chen Yanhuan, I'm begging you, please stop making a scene, let's go home, okay?"

"No, I've said it before, if anything happens to our daughter, no one will have a good time."

Enraged, Mr. Huang clutched his chest, his face pale, and swayed precariously.

"Dad, don't get agitated."

"Yes, Dad, don't be angry. Take care of yourself. Mom, Dad can't handle stress. Can you please stop upsetting him?"

"Huang Shaogang, why didn't you say anything when your dad hit me? He couldn't stand it after I said just a few words, what does that have to do with me?"

Mr. Huang finally fainted, and his two brothers, Huang Shaosong and Huang Shaosong, took him to the hospital. Mrs. Huang was not worried at all and was busy fiddling with clothes.

"Chen Yanhuan, how dare you bully my daughter."

Not long after the three Huang men left, Lin's mother stormed in. She grabbed Huang's mother by the hair and slapped her several times. Huang's mother had been unable to eat or sleep well lately and had no strength to resist.

She was pinned to the ground and beaten by Lin's mother until she couldn't even make a sound. Last night, she received a call from Xiao Chu. This morning, she submitted an early retirement application to the hospital to help with an operation and rushed to the county town without stopping. As soon as she got off the bus, she went straight to her daughter's house.

"Xingyao's mother, stop hitting her. If you keep hitting her, something bad will happen."

"It's alright. If something happens, I'll take your life."

The neighbors had just seen Huang's father being carried out of the hospital by his two sons and taken back to the hospital shortly after being discharged, so they all rushed out to see what was going on. Just as they were about to go home to cook, they saw Lin Xingyao's mother storming into the Huang family home.

At first, they watched the commotion from the doorway, and when they saw Lin's mother beating Huang's mother so badly, they were all shocked. One neighbor came in to intervene, and one by one, the neighbors came in.

"Quick, everyone help pull Xingyao's mother away."

Seeing how serious Lin's mother looked, one of them said that if the fighting continued, someone might actually die.

"Don't pull me, I'm going to beat her to death today."

It took five or six neighbors to pull Lin's mother back, and then they sent someone to the hospital to find the Huang family.

"You can kill me."

Let Lin Xingyao's mother beat her to death; that way, her son and Lin Xingyao will definitely divorce. She doesn't want to live anymore if she can't find her daughter.

"Let me go? Do you think I wouldn't dare?"

"Xingyao's mother, you can't act impulsively. Think of Xingyao, think of your grandson An'an. You still have two sons, and Xingyao said that you have a younger brother who is serving in the army. You have to think about them."

Aunt Wang, Lin Xingyao's neighbor, advised Lin's mother that she and Lin Xingyao had a good relationship and that she was the one who led the way in to break up the fight.

"Thank you, sister. You're right. At worst, I'll let my daughter divorce her son. It's not worth sacrificing myself for her."

"That's more like it. Always think about the children first."
