Qin Yan sneezed twice.

Ling Manyun brought her some hot milk and then delivered some documents.

There were several urgent matters that required Qin Yan's signature and stamp. However, seeing that she wasn't feeling well, Ling Manyun didn't urge her.

She simply asked, "Have you caught a cold?"

Qin Yan was about to say no when she sneezed.

Ling Manyun immediately covered her mouth and nose and took two steps back: "Don't come over here. The newspaper can't have two people get sick."

Qin Yan: "I'm going home to rest. If you need anything, send someone else to deliver the documents to me. Or you can handle it for me; just call me and let me know."

She gave the company seal to Ling Manyun.

Ling Manyun replied, "That's good, you should rest."

To avoid infecting her.

Someone has to keep an eye on things at the newspaper. In Miss Ling's eyes, illnesses can come in turns, but not all at once; they all have to follow her plans and arrangements.

Qin Yan went back first.

She arrived home around lunchtime. However, she didn't eat at home, and the small kitchen hadn't prepared any food for her.

The maid asked her, "What would you like to eat?"

Qin Yan had no appetite at all.

But she knew from a young age that when she was feeling unwell, she had to eat, because eating a full meal would help her recover faster.

Even if it's egg drop soup, which she hates, is brought to her when she has an attack, she will eat a whole bowl without hesitation, leaving not a drop of soup.

"Make a bowl of plain noodles," Qin Yan said.

She felt dizzy, so she went upstairs and lay down fully clothed.

A moment later, the maid brought her a steaming bowl of plain noodles, the scallion oil fragrant and delicious. There wasn't much lard, just enough for a satisfying flavor without being greasy.

The noodle soup was piping hot, and Qin Yan ate it while it was still hot.

After eating, she broke out in a light sweat, changed her clothes, and crawled into bed.

When she woke up, her head wasn't so heavy. Her period was also coming to an end.

She made a sound, and Cheng Tianxun pushed the door open and came in.

Their eyes met, and the couple's expressions went blank for a moment. They both had a lot to say, but didn't know where to begin.

Cheng Tianxun spoke first: "I came back as soon as you were asleep. You didn't have a fever. How are you feeling now?"

"I feel a bit better," Qin Yan said.

Cheng Tianxun walked over and touched her forehead again.

It's cool.

"If you're cold, stay in bed. I'll go get the newspaper for you and bring it upstairs," he said.

They even asked, "Would you like something sweet?"

Qin Yan originally didn't want to. But after hearing these words, he started to think about it.

Her mouth tasted bland and tasteless. This made her feel unwell.

"What sweets do you have at home?" she asked.

"We have dried persimmons," Cheng Tianxun said.

Qin Yan: "..."

Seeing that she was a little speechless, Cheng Tianxun said, "I'll go downstairs and look. Maybe there are some leftover candies from the New Year."

Qin Yan lost interest.

She might eat a few bites of a soft and sweet little cake; but she's not very interested in persimmon cakes or candies that require chewing.

Less than three minutes later, Cheng Tianxun went upstairs again.

She was holding a small cake box with a pretty design printed on it, and a stack of newspapers.

Qin Yan blinked.

Cheng Tianxun: "We're out of candy. How about some small cakes?"

Qin Yan: "..."

It turned out that he asked her if she wanted something sweet because he had bought some small cakes.

I was teasing her on purpose.

Qin Yan wasn't angry with him.

As long as their lives remain the same and it doesn't affect her work, Qin Yan can accept whatever their relationship is like.

"Thank you." She got up.

Cheng Tianxun took one of his shirts and wrapped it around her, then took another garment and spread it on the quilt: "Eat in bed."

"It will make a mess."

"Change it if it gets dirty," Cheng Tianxun said. "It's just the two of us in this house, I don't mind. You can even bring me some soup noodles to eat in bed."

Qin Yan: "..."

The small cake was quite sweet, which Qin Yan might normally dislike, but it was just right for her now. She only intended to have a couple of bites, but before she knew it, she had finished the whole cake.

"If you like it, I'll buy it for you again next time," Cheng Tianxun said.

I brought her another cup of hot water.

Qin Yan: "I don't usually like to eat much, but today I just don't have any taste in my mouth."

She felt much better.

Cheng Tianxun tidied her up a bit, sat on the edge of the bed, and held her hand: "Yesterday..."

Qin Yan then realized that he was wearing a turtleneck sweater today.

She sensed that something was off about him.

Qin Yan bought this sweater for him. When Cheng Tianxun tried it on, he said it was too tight around his neck and put it aside.

Qin Yan thought for a moment and reached out to pull his collar.

There were clear finger marks on his neck. Not deep, but noticeable.

No wonder his voice sounded a little hoarse.

"Did I pinch you?"

"Didn't you say you didn't train your strength?" Cheng Tianxun said. "You have strong hands; you can use a long spear."

Qin Yan: "...It's my fault."

Cheng Tianxun sat down next to her and put his arm around her.

"Qin Yan, I was drunk and acted recklessly last night. You did nothing wrong." He said, pressing his cheek against hers.

He added, "I deserve to die for making you uncomfortable."

He used some force in his arm.

Qin Yan thought that even teeth and tongue can fight, so what couple doesn't have any conflicts? No matter how compatible or loving they are.

The fact that they've gotten to where they are today, able to talk things out the next day, is better than many couples.

"I accept your apology," Qin Yan said.

"I made you a little gift myself," Cheng Tianxun said.

"Small cakes?"

"No," he said.

He took something out of his pocket and handed it to Qin Yan.

It has a faint fragrance, which becomes stronger when you get closer; it smells very nice. It looks like wood, but it is actually a bit softer than wood.

Qin Yan: "This is Qinan wood, right?"

She had seen the most precious type of agarwood.

"Yes."

"But what is this carving made into?" Qin Yan asked.

It wasn't an agarwood bracelet, but a lump of... indistinguishable stuff.

"Turtle," Cheng Tianxun said.

Qin Yan: "..."

With his skill level, he was simply wasting a precious piece of wood. Even after his explanation, Qin Yan still couldn't see that it resembled a tortoise.

"Its head and limbs are retracted into its shell. Doesn't it look like a turtle shell?" Cheng Tianxun tried to save face. "This is Lady Turtle."

Qin Yan: "How do you distinguish between men and women?"

"This is its head; I carved a flower here. It can't be Mr. Turtle wearing a flower," Cheng Tianxun said.

Qin Yan: "..."

An apology is about showing an attitude.

Qinan wood smells nice and looks good on a desk; as for carvings, because they are all misshapen and indistinguishable, there is no distinction between beauty and ugliness.

Qin Yan also got to eat a sweet little cake, which was what she had been looking forward to.

She received a lot.

"Thank you," she said, holding it in her hand for a moment, the fragrance still lingering on her palm.

After the two made up, Qin Yan asked him if he was unhappy when he came back yesterday because of the singer who harassed him at the flower shop.

Or something else.

"If you mind the gossip in the newspaper, I can take some time to clarify it for you. Of course, I can't guarantee how effective it will be," Qin Yan said.

Newspaper articles often have the opposite effect. What is meant to explain or clarify a matter can, due to differing emphases, make things worse.

The best way to deal with trivial gossip is to ignore it and remain silent.

Scandals and gossip are minor matters. As long as Cheng Tianxun doesn't suppress the press and is labeled an old-fashioned warlord who "restricts freedom," his reputation won't be greatly affected.

Scandals are fine, but a wrong political stance is fatal.

Qin Yan said she would help him clarify things, but it was only an attempt. If the results weren't satisfactory, she would stop immediately.

Cheng Tianxun: "No need, it has nothing to do with this. I just drank too much."

He then took an envelope out of his pocket and handed it to Qin Yan, saying, "This is for you."

"What is this?"
