A whirlwind marriage: The real heiress marries a warlord.
Chapter 034 The Scarf of My Own Daughter
Qin Yan's car stopped.
The road wasn't wide. Ahead, an oxcart carrying timber had overturned, and another car was blocked.
It appears to be a collision between two vehicles, and the cars look somewhat damaged.
"Madam, shall we take another route?" the adjutant asked Qin Yan, turning around.
It's raining outside.
In the early winter in the southern part of the city, whenever it rains, the air becomes damp and the cold can be biting.
Qin Yan sat in the car, lost in thought. Her mind was filled with the letter that Aunt Luo had given her.
Even though she cared about Ling Manyun, she didn't have much time to worry about her at the moment.
She believed Ling Manyun could solve it.
In terms of conduct and actions, Ling Manyun is much more capable than her. Qin Yan only needs to stand behind her and support her silently.
She didn't hear what the adjutant said.
"Madam?" the adjutant turned around again.
Qin Yan snapped out of her daze.
Just then, a man jogged over, and the adjutant immediately cocked his pistol and watched the newcomer warily.
The other person was also in military uniform, without an umbrella, and their hat was soaked by the rain.
He gave a crisp salute: "May I ask whose car this is? It has the military government's license plate. I am the Lan family's adjutant."
The adjutant remained vigilant, his pistol concealed beneath the car window: "This is the Second Young Marshal's car. The young mistress is in the back seat."
"Young Madam," the adjutant took two steps back, raising his voice, "our car has been hit, and all the windows are shattered."
Although no one was injured, we didn't bring umbrellas, and the person in the car was the wife of Chief of Staff Lan. "Madam, could you please give our lady a ride?"
After saying that, he saluted Qin Yan again.
Qin Yan rolled down the car window and saw that the car door in front of him was half open, and someone was looking in his direction.
The wind, mixed with rain, poured into the car through the rolled-down windows.
Qin Yan rolled up the car window again.
She said to her adjutant, "Tell him that you can't see anything at night, and I can't be sure if he's telling the truth."
Chief of Staff Lan is a high-ranking official in the Governor's Office. Since he used that title, I'll give him an umbrella out of respect for the Governor.
Her voice was not loud.
The adjutant repeated her words.
The Lan family's adjutant grew anxious: "Young Madam, I can vouch for myself. The front of the car is damaged and won't start for the time being. My lady is already soaked, and the umbrella won't help..."
He then said, "Could you please help me out of respect for the warlord?"
Qin Yan: "I'm almost at the villa. Tell him to take me back first, and he can come back to help pick up the others later."
She refused to sit with Madam Lan.
Seeing this, the Lan family's adjutant dared not press the matter any further.
When Qin Yan's adjutant handed him an umbrella from the driver's seat, Qin Yan took off the long fringed scarf from his shoulder: "This is for Madam Lan to keep warm."
After delivering the items, she reversed her car, turned around, and drove away.
The Lan family's adjutant handed the umbrella and scarf to Madam Lan.
The umbrella shielded me from the rain blowing in through the broken car window and also blocked the wind, making it seem less cold; the scarf kept me warm.
The adjutant felt somewhat guilty: "Madam, it's my fault for being useless; I couldn't persuade Young Madam Cheng."
Mrs. Lan: "Her concerns are valid. It's dark now, anyone can get in her car, doesn't she want to die? Besides, she gave her an umbrella and a scarf."
Putting herself in her shoes, Mrs. Lan could only do this much when faced with a stranger's request for help.
Although they were all family members of the military government, Madam Cheng and Madam Lan were not familiar with each other.
Cheng Tianxun had beaten both Madam Lan's brother, Du Rongfei, and her husband, Lan Changming, so it was truly difficult for Qin Yan to let him into the car without any warning.
"Madam, Mrs. Cheng said that the driver will come back to pick you up after dropping her off. Perhaps she wasn't lying. Please wait a little longer," the adjutant said.
Mrs. Lan nodded.
She wrapped the scarf tighter around herself.
She caught a faint, pleasant fragrance, a mixture of perfume and soap, which smelled wonderful.
She then asked her adjutant, "What did the people up ahead say?"
"Lieutenant Zhou is negotiating," the adjutant said.
Mrs. Blue's car had two lieutenants.
Just now, the oxcart was running very fast and crashed into her car; now the driver is still arguing, demanding that the adjutant pay compensation and that his timber be properly loaded.
He's a scoundrel.
The car broke down, so we couldn't get away.
Mrs. Lan sighed.
After waiting for about half an hour, her two adjutants helped the man of the oxcart tie up the logs and paid him compensation, and the man finally agreed to leave.
The road has been cleared.
Only Mrs. Lan's car was broken and still wouldn't start.
At that moment, a car behind us honked its horn.
The adjutant came over and told Madam Lan's adjutant that he was the driver for Young Madam Cheng and was now going back to pick her up.
"I called the Lan family and explained the situation. If Madam is worried, she can wait for someone from the Lan family to pick her up. It should only take about half an hour," the adjutant said.
"I'm not worried," Madam Lan said. "The rain is getting heavier, I need to go back first."
One of her two adjutants stayed behind to look after the car and wait for the Lan family, while the other accompanied her back in the car.
"Please thank the young mistress for me." Upon returning to the Lan family's gate, Madam Lan said this, "I will pay a visit another day to express my gratitude in person."
The adjutant said, "The young mistress said it was no trouble at all, please don't be so polite."
he's gone.
Mrs. Lan wanted to return the scarf to him to take back, but she still felt cold.
"Never mind, I'll thank her in person anyway. I'll take it to her myself after it's washed," Mrs. Lan thought, and went home.
Her mother-in-law was still at the military hospital, and Lan Muhe stayed there to take care of her.
Lan Changming went to the post.
The sons and daughters-in-law are all at home.
She just received a call saying that Lan Er and Lan Jun had already gone to pick her up.
Lan Zheng and his wife, the third son Lan Xiu, were waiting at home and immediately gathered around.
"Mother, go change your clothes first, you're all soaked," said the Third Young Mistress, Su Yuzhao.
After Madam Lan tidied herself up and changed into clean, warm clothes, Lan Zheng brought her a cup of hot tea and hurriedly asked what was going on.
Mrs. Lan told them everything one by one.
Upon hearing that the other party was Cheng Tianxun's young mistress, everyone fell silent.
"...It's understandable that she's cautious. Her adjutant came to pick me up right away, so we can't blame her. She's fine." Madam Lan misunderstood the children's silence and explained on Qin Yan's behalf.
"Mother, was that scarf from earlier Mrs. Cheng's?" the Third Young Mistress asked.
Madam Lan nodded: "Tell the maid to wash it, and I'll give it to her later."
"Mom, I'll go with you then," the third young mistress said with a smile.
Mrs. Lan: "You and she are both young, you have things to talk about. You should go with her, otherwise it would be awkward if she didn't know what to say to me."
The third young mistress secretly gave Lanxiu a wink.
Lanxiu thought for a moment in silence, then said, "Mom, what if..."
He couldn't continue speaking.
Madam Lan asked, puzzled, "What if what?"
Lan Zheng chimed in, "I'm just afraid she won't want to see you."
"Fine, then so be it," Madam Lan said. "Young people these days have such strange tempers. She's been kind to me, so I can't blame her for not wanting to see me."
Lanxiu seemed unable to hold back any longer: "Mom..."
Lan Zheng coughed heavily.
Mrs. Lan looked at her two sons: "What kind of riddles are you two playing?"
Third Young Mistress Su Yuzhao laughed and said, "Who knows? Anyway, they don't have good intentions. Maybe they want something from you. Mother, don't fall for their tricks. Just don't ask and let them keep quiet."
Madam Lan couldn't help but chuckle: "All of you are so petty, targeting your own mother? Trying to borrow money?"
"No," Lanxiu said.
