A whirlwind marriage: The real heiress marries a warlord.
Chapter 029 Venting a Mouth
Governor Cheng had four concubines.
The youngest concubine was taken in more than ten years ago and is now in her thirties.
Among all the concubines, the second concubine, Su Yaxi, was naturally beautiful, and even though she was the oldest, she was the most elegant.
She was like a matriarch.
Compared to her, the warlord's wife seemed like a distinguished guest on inspection tour, possessing status and position, yet she was completely out of place in this family.
The warlord's children also came.
Aside from his eldest son Cheng Tianrui from his first wife, Cheng Tianxun from his second wife Xiang Ying, and Cheng Tianyu from his second concubine, the warlord had no other sons.
There are several daughters. Some are still minors, some are studying abroad, and some are married. On an occasion like today, minors certainly cannot come, so none of them are present.
Qin Yan glanced around discreetly and chose to sit down in the seat below her husband.
"Fourth Concubine said she had a slight fever this morning. Why don't we ask Third Concubine and Fifth Concubine to take care of her? Let's go downstairs for dinner," Second Concubine said with a smile.
Everyone understood the significance of this meal, and the other three concubines were quite frightened. The fourth concubine, in particular, turned purple with fright.
And it has nothing to do with them.
The warlord didn't seem to care and nodded slightly: "Go."
The concubines glanced gratefully at the second concubine and hurriedly left.
The second concubine went to give instructions, telling the servants to prepare some dishes to send to the other concubines before she returned and sat down.
She and the warlord's wife, Xiang Ying, sat down on either side of the warlord.
The flower hall was extremely quiet.
The servants served the dishes one after another, each one speaking quietly and moving slowly.
Like the sky before a summer downpour, the oppressive atmosphere made it hard to breathe.
"Father, should I speak about this, or should you?" In the silence of the room, Cheng Tianxun spoke casually.
The warlord sat upright, his expression inscrutable.
Qin Yan glanced quickly at the warlord's expression, then lowered his gaze again.
Second wife Su Yaxi said with a smile, "Tianxun, let's eat first. It's getting late, everyone's hungry. Let's talk while we eat."
"Life is long, who can go without food? It's not like we won't live to see tomorrow," Cheng Tianxun said.
The voice was calm and unprovocative.
It sounds to the ear like fingernails scraping against the surface of a knife, sending chills down one's spine.
The second concubine, a woman of such shrewdness and composure who could face a gun without flinching, suddenly froze on her face with a smile.
She glanced at the warlord as if seeking help.
The warlord looked back at her, his gaze cold and hard. The second concubine's face changed, filled with fear and trepidation.
"Tianxun, you speak," the warlord's wife said.
Cheng Tianxun glanced at his two brothers.
The eldest brother, Cheng Tianrui, was just as nervous as the third brother, Cheng Tianyu; both of them had tense expressions and subconsciously wanted to get closer to the warlord.
The warlords looked back one by one, their eyes deep and unfathomable, exuding both authority and indifference, yet making it impossible to discern their emotions at that moment.
"I recently survived an assassination attempt, which left my wife seriously injured and hospitalized; unexpectedly, someone was not satisfied and chased her to the military hospital to assassinate her," Cheng Tianxun said.
"The time they followed me, they found out I was a royalist; but the assassin who entered the hospital was put in by the third brother's men," Cheng Tianxun said.
He remained calm and composed throughout, speaking slowly, yet the imposing aura emanating from his coldness felt like a heavy stone crashing down on one's head.
Cheng San couldn't sit still. He wanted to stand up to make himself look more imposing, but he didn't dare. He bowed slightly and forced himself to sit down again: "This is an insult."
He looked at the warlord for help, "Father, this is a frame-up."
The warlord ignored him, staring only at the cup in front of him, and suddenly slammed down his chopsticks: "You'll only confess if you go to the military government's prison?"
Cheng San's face turned pale and then bluish: "Father..."
He called out "Father" but his eyes were fixed on his second concubine.
The second concubine stood up and resolutely knelt before the warlord: "Warlord, I did all these things; Tianyu has nothing to do with it!"
She neither cried nor shouted, but knelt upright.
Cheng Tianyu hurriedly knelt down beside his mother: "Mother."
The warlord was furious: "You and your son are of one mind, both wanting to oppose me?"
"Commander, you agreed to let Tianxun investigate, which means you suspect us. In that case, we can't let the children take the blame."
"I am the most suitable. I come from a princely family, so it's most convincing to say I'm a royalist. The warlord can vent his anger, and Tianxun can have an explanation," she said.
He spoke each word with a firm voice, even tinged with sarcasm.
The warlord's angry expression softened somewhat.
Upon seeing this, the warlord's wife couldn't help but twitch her lips, revealing an uncontrollable sneer.
"Is this going to end up being nothing more?" she asked Governor Cheng.
The warlord's cheeks trembled: "Just how badly are you going to cause trouble at home?"
"Since you're still handling household affairs, why are you trying to smooth things over? Why did you hand it over to Tian Xuncha when you were in the military government?" the governor's wife asked.
He then asked, "Which piece of evidence that Tianxun handed over to you and the military government was unclear? Why didn't you voice your doubts then, and now you're bringing up 'family matters'?"
The warlord's wife and his second concubine were both very opinionated.
Both of them had valid points and evidence.
If someone is being unreasonable or crying, the matter is easy to resolve.
A military governor can be decisive and ruthless in handling military affairs, but he cannot do so at home.
When the warlord's wife questioned the warlord, the second concubine remained silent. She never attempted to meddle in the conflict between the warlord and his wife.
Her enemy was not the warlord's wife.
Especially now, she should be asking the warlord, not going against the madam.
Qin Yan sat to the side, thinking to himself, "These two women are so arrogant that they think they're even more powerful than the warlord."
The warlord couldn't control them.
The warlord's expression changed several times.
The eldest son, Cheng Tianrui, spoke up: "Father, it's the second son who wants infighting!"
The warlord, finally finding an outlet for his pent-up anger and frustration, smashed a bowl at Cheng Tianrui: "Shut up. You think you're clean?"
The bowl broke, and Cheng Tianrui's right cheek was cut with a bloody gash. He convulsed in pain, but dared not utter another word.
His wife, Tao Jingxin, held his hand tightly under the table, signaling him not to speak again.
The room was quiet.
No one spoke anymore.
The warlord was held there.
"Father, how about we call it quits?" Cheng Tianxun broke the silence.
The warlord was about to speak.
Cheng Tianxun walked to Cheng San's side, grabbed his right arm, and swiftly severed it. Everyone heard a clear "snap".
Bone misalignment.
Cheng Tianxun moved too fast for Cheng San to dodge, and the warlord couldn't stop him in time either.
Cheng San's pig-like screams echoed throughout the entire flower hall. He was in so much pain that he almost rolled on the ground.
The second concubine finally shed tears, her eyes trembling slightly as she looked at her son, who remained kneeling there.
"Tianxun!" The warlord stood up angrily.
The moment he moved, the entire atmosphere of the scene collapsed.
"Release him from his military post and let him recuperate at home for six months." Cheng Tianxun stood there tall and imposing, blocking the restaurant lights and casting a long shadow on the floor. "Commander, let this matter rest and spare his life."
warlord:"……"
"It's not for him, but because we shouldn't air our dirty laundry in public. If word gets out that he's colluding with the royalists, morale in the army will be low, which won't do us any good," Cheng Tianxun added.
The warlord trembled slightly with anger.
Seeing this, the second concubine knew that the warlord's heart still leaned towards her and her son, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
