A whirlwind marriage: The real heiress marries a warlord.
Chapter 017 A Pure Relationship
The night is long.
In the middle of the night, after Qin Yan took a shower and lay down quietly, she said to Cheng Tianxun, "This bed is quite sturdy."
Cheng Tianxun: "It's too early to say that it hasn't been tested."
Qin Yan: "You seem pretty smug?"
"Do you want to explain in detail?" Cheng Tianxun asked. "If you want to explain in detail, I can..."
Qin Yan turned over and faced away from him.
Cheng Tianxun chuckled softly behind him.
The two of them got up together the next day.
Cheng Tianxun is spending quite a long time in the city this time. They've been married for a year, and Cheng Tianxun has been very busy, not returning home for three months during the Spring Festival. He's never had as much free time as he does now.
He should have finished his duties in Suzhou and his official business should be coming to an end.
Qin Yan's relationship with him remained unchanged. They went about their own business outside the master bedroom, not disturbing each other.
Of course, the other party is not needed.
That day, after Qin Yan finished breakfast, Cen Yan, Cheng Tianxun's close friend, arrived.
"Sister-in-law."
"Big brother," Qin Yan greeted him.
This is not just a polite way of addressing someone.
Cen Yan's real name is Xiang Cen Yan. He is the adopted son of Cheng Tianxun's maternal uncle and is four years older than Cheng Tianxun.
He represented his adoptive father in Nancheng, so all the Xiang family members in Nancheng, including Cheng Tianxun's second and third uncles, had to listen to Xiang Cenyan.
The cabinet is also being pushed forward by Xiang Cenyan.
He always comes here for important matters; he doesn't like to wander around like Xiang Linchuan.
Qin Yan wasn't in a hurry to leave; she wanted to hear what was going on. If Cheng Tianxun wanted her to leave, they would go upstairs themselves.
"Sit down," Cheng Tianxun said casually. "What brings you here so early?"
"The Northern government wants to negotiate again and has invited the Xiang, Qin, and Cheng families to come north. You know about this," Cen Yan said.
However, all three companies explicitly refused.
"Another unexpected problem?"
"The Qin family in Guangzhou secretly sent people north, disguised as ordinary travelers," Cen Yan said.
He glanced at Qin Yan.
Cen Yan had also heard that Qin Yan was mistakenly believed to be the illegitimate daughter of the Qin family in Guangzhou.
His words, while not avoiding Qin Yan's presence, also carried a probing intent.
Cheng Tianxun understood his expression and said calmly, "The Qin family in Guangzhou has nothing to do with her. Who went north?"
"Take a guess."
"Qin Yao?" It wasn't Cheng Tianxun who spoke, but Qin Yan.
"Exactly," Cen Yan said.
Qin Yan: "..."
"Are you very familiar with him?" Cheng Tianxun turned to look at her.
Qin Yan: "We're fairly familiar, but our relationship is completely innocent."
Cheng Tianxun thought to himself, "Isn't that obvious? Do you have some kind of shady relationship with me?"
He looked away and asked Cen Yan, "What are your plans?"
Cen Yan: "Stop the train and find him. He can't get north right under our noses."
He added, "However, it could also be a smokescreen. They're spreading rumors here to make us busy for nothing, while he's going by sea."
"Then let's prepare for both possibilities," Cheng Tianxun said. "We'll block it at sea and by rail. Let's see if it can fly."
Cen Yan: "Let's ask the newspapers to create momentum and expose the Qin family's attempt to betray the Southern government, so that public opinion will condemn the Qin family."
"We don't have enough information. If we really create hype, they might turn the tables on us. Don't rush to create public opinion; arrest people first," Cheng Tianxun said.
After listening to a few words, Qin Yan felt that Cheng Tianxun was very thorough and meticulous in his considerations, and not at all rash.
He is not only a soldier, but also has the talent of a politician.
They probably had a lot to say, and might even need to call in other people for a meeting, so Qin Yan left first.
Upon arriving at the newspaper office, Qin Yan's secretary, as usual, brought him documents and coffee.
"Manjun, close the door," Qin Yan said.
Ling Manyun was a little confused, so she turned it off.
"Has something happened?"
"I heard some news that Qin Yao may be heading north," Qin Yan said.
Ling Manyun's mind went blank for a moment.
"Are you here to arrest me?" she asked.
"No. I can't go into details, it was Cheng Tianxun's official business, I just overheard it," Qin Yan said.
Ling Manyun snapped out of her daze: "Then don't say anything. If it leaks out, we'll both be suspects."
Keep your mouth shut when you're doing things; this is a life-saving lesson Ling Manyun learned from a young age.
"I'm not afraid of him coming," Ling Manyun said. "I made it clear to him, the warlord and his wife, and my family when I left. Marriage is a matter of personal choice now, and I'm not selling myself to the Qin family."
She did make it clear.
But nobody agreed.
Only Ling Manyun wanted to break off the engagement. When persuasion failed, she ran away, without even taking much money with her.
"If there's nothing else, let's get started," Ling Manyun said.
Qin Yan nodded, and Ling Manyun opened the door and went out.
After that incident, Ling Manyun never asked about the progress again.
Qin Yan didn't ask any further questions.
If a friend needs help, she will help to the best of her ability; but if a friend doesn't ask, Qin Yan won't worry unnecessarily.
Two days later, the warlord's wife had some free time and made an appointment with Cheng Tianxun and Qin Yan to go to Qingyang Restaurant for roast goose.
"Your father asked about this, and I told him. He also wants to go," the warlord's wife said to Cheng Tianxun over the phone. "Let's have dinner together."
Cheng Tianxun: "There shouldn't be more than just Father?"
"He always has several tails following him when he goes out," the warlord's wife said.
Cheng Tianxun: "Okay, if they can eat it, so can I. I don't need the money for this meal."
The warlord's wife hung up the phone.
Cheng Tianxun also told Qin Yan this.
Qin Yan admired Cheng Tianxun and his mother's "effortless" attitude; they treated everything with a calm and collected demeanor, like a blanket covering them if the sky were to fall. They quickly accepted any unexpected changes.
The meal was on August 25th. When I woke up, the sky was clear and blue. At noon, a sudden gust of wind picked up, and by mid-afternoon the wind had stopped, and a light drizzle began to fall.
The temperature dropped sharply.
Cheng Tianxun left home in the morning. He called back and told Qin Yan to go to the Qingyang restaurant by herself, as he wouldn't be coming back to pick her up.
However, when Qin Yan arrived, she saw Cheng Tianxun standing under the eaves smoking, his eyes fixed on the road in her direction, with an umbrella beside him, waiting for her.
Before her car even got close, several cars drove up from another road and parked in front of the vegetable market.
Young men and women, all dressed in fine clothes, got off the bus.
Qin Yan recognized them at a glance; they were from the Lan family.
Lan Muhe is among them.
Lan Muhe resembled her birth mother, Mrs. Ye, with naturally smiling eyes and a fair complexion; she was both beautiful and kind.
She also saw Cheng Tianxun.
The Lan family members walked towards Cheng Tianxun.
Cheng Tianxun seemed to frown slightly.
The Lan family's driver moved the car, and Qin Yan's car pulled up next to it.
She got out of the car with an umbrella.
As they reached the rooftop, they heard Cheng Tianxun say, "I don't know you. Who are you that I need to know you?"
"Young Marshal, my sister didn't provoke you." A male voice, sounding very angry, said. It was Lan Jun, the second young master of the Lan family.
"I didn't say she provoked me. What, is it an insult to her not to know her? Should everyone in the city know her? Which club does she socialize at?" Cheng Tianxun asked.
Take your time, don't get annoyed.
But that was a very harsh remark.
Young Master Lan's expression turned even uglier.
"Let's go." His wife pulled him back, her expression timid, preventing him from arguing back.
If we continue, I'm afraid Cheng Tianxun will take action.
Cheng Tianxun had been taught martial arts by a master since childhood, someone specially arranged by his maternal grandfather. In a fight, all the young masters of the Lan family combined wouldn't even be a match for him.
The men and women present all looked somewhat afraid of Cheng Tianxun; apart from the hotheaded second young master of the Lan family, no one dared to stand up for Lan Muhe.
They just wanted to escape.
Cheng Tianxun even beat their father, so who would dare to embarrass themselves in front of him?
