Slow to mature after marriage
Chapter 29 The Ring
In the morning, Bo Yan walked into the office.
Wang Jin followed behind, put down the documents, and was about to leave.
Bo Yan called out to him.
"Wang Jin".
"President Bo? Is there anything else?"
Bo Yan leaned back in his chair and tapped his fingers on the table.
"Don't you think there's something extra about me today?"
Wang Jin looked him up and down and nodded seriously.
"have."
Bo Yan waited.
Wang Jin raised his hand, overlapping his thumb and forefinger to make a heart shape.
"He looks a bit more handsome now."
Bo Yan looked at him, remained silent for a long time, and then slowly spoke.
"This suit was a gift from my wife."
He paused for a moment.
"She also helped me tie my tie this morning."
Wang Jin was stunned for a moment, then his eyes lit up.
"Was it a gift from your wife? Did your wife choose it herself? Did your wife tie it herself?"
Bo Yan leaned back in his chair, not saying a word, but the slight smile on his lips was impossible to suppress.
Wang Jin gave a thumbs up: "President Bo, the quality of your marriage is absolutely amazing. Unlike me, my wife makes me tie my own clothes, and she scolds me if I tie them crooked."
Bo Yan raised an eyebrow at him.
Wang Jin sighed: "You have no idea, I struggle with that tie for ten minutes every morning, and then I still get criticized when I come out. You live a life of luxury."
Bo Yan raised his hand and straightened the neatly tied tie knot.
"good."
Looking at his expression, Wang Jin knew perfectly well—this wasn't just "okay," he was clearly very satisfied.
"Mr. Bo, your wife is so attentive to you, shouldn't you reciprocate in kind?"
Bo Yan looked up at him.
Wang Jin quickly shrank back: "I just said it offhand, just said it offhand."
"Go out."
Wang Jin nodded and was about to turn around.
"etc."
Wang Jin turned around.
Bo Yan tapped his fingers on the table and asked casually.
"What makes your wife happiest when she receives a gift?"
Wang Jin thought for a moment: "A ring. When I proposed, I gave her a plain one, and she's still wearing it. None of the other rings I gave her since then have been as good as that one."
ring?
Bo Yan frowned.
Mu Siwan looked at it and didn't seem like she would be interested in the ring.
But aside from bones and dead people, he didn't know what she liked.
After a moment's hesitation, the man said, "Okay, then find some time to pick out two couple rings, the most expensive ones."
After he finished speaking, he frowned again.
"Never mind." He looked up. "I'll go pick it myself."
-
In the afternoon, when the old lady called, Wang Jin was organizing documents.
He glanced at the caller ID and answered.
"old lady."
Chen Ruohua's cheerful voice came from the other end: "Wang Jin, how's Xiao Yan doing lately? How are things going with Si Wan?"
Wang Jin considered it carefully.
"What a lovely old lady. Mr. Bo's new suit today was a gift from his wife. She also tied the tie herself this morning."
The old lady's voice immediately rose eight octaves: "Really?"
"Absolutely true."
The old lady's satisfied laughter came from the other end of the phone. She asked a few more questions before hanging up.
After hanging up the phone, the old lady turned to look at Bo Ning, who was lying on the sofa, and smiled so much that her eyes narrowed into slits.
"Ningning, your brother has made progress. He's finally figured it out and knows how to cherish his wife now."
Bo Ning put down her phone, her face saying, "I knew it."
"Grandma, I told you you were going to be a great-grandmother soon, but you didn't believe me."
The old lady couldn't stop smiling.
"It's better to be too naughty, it's better to be too naughty."
She stood up, paced around the living room for a couple of steps, and then suddenly remembered something.
"I'll have them come back for dinner this Saturday. I need to talk to Xiaoyan and Siwan about the wedding."
Bo Ning blinked: "A wedding?"
"Yes," the old lady nodded. "We've been married for three years, but we haven't had a wedding yet. We should take advantage of our good relationship now and have one. Otherwise, it will be so inconvenient for Siwan to wear a wedding dress when she's heavily pregnant."
Bo Ning smiled, her eyes crinkling.
"Grandma, you're thinking too far ahead. It's not even close to happening yet."
The old lady glared at her.
"It's not far. We need to prepare for this in advance."
As she spoke, she began to make plans.
"Have your brother hire a wedding planning company, the best one... Where should we choose a venue...?"
Bo Ning lay on the sofa, watching her grandmother talk to herself on the other end of the line, and took out her phone to send a message to Bo Yan.
"Brother, Grandma said she wants to hold a wedding for you two. You and your sister-in-law should prepare yourselves in advance."
-
Bo Yan came out of the mall with a dark blue velvet bag in her hand.
The ring has been chosen. It's a plain band, simple in design, and shouldn't interfere with her dissection if worn on her hand.
He was about to get on the bus when his phone vibrated.
News from Bo Ning.
He clicked on it and took a look.
wedding?
Bo Yan frowned.
He has always disliked those flashy but impractical ceremonies. A group of people gather together, listen to the emcee read a script, toast until their faces are stiff, and spend the whole day just to take a few photos.
but--
What if she wants to?
He leaned back in his seat, watching the neon lights flash by outside the window.
Forget it.
She does what she wants, and she doesn't do what she doesn't want.
-
When I opened the door, the living room light was on.
The TV was on, but there was no sound. An anatomical video was playing on the screen, the scene cutting to a close-up of the chest cavity opening, accompanied by professional narration subtitles.
Mu Siwan sat cross-legged on the sofa, holding the remote control and watching intently. Grace sat cross-legged beside her, resting her head on her knees, and watched along with her.
Hearing the noise, she turned her head.
"You're back?"
Bo Yan hummed in agreement, changed his shoes, and walked over to sit down next to her.
"What are you looking at?"
"Today's case," she pointed to the screen, "the pacemaker case; this is the relevant instructional video."
Bo Yan glanced at the screen. The chest cavity of the corpse in the picture had been opened, and the heart was exposed. It looked... very different from the ones he usually saw on TV.
"Have you got a meal yet?"
"I've eaten," she said. "Aunt Chen made soup."
The autopsy continued to play on television. Mu Siwan watched intently, occasionally frowning, then lowering her head to jot down a few words in her sketchbook, the pen nib scratching across the paper.
Bo Yan leaned back on the sofa and didn't say anything more.
Warm yellow light fell from above.
He turned his head and his gaze lingered on her.
She sat cross-legged, her back straight, and as she wrote, stray hairs fell down, obscuring half her face. The light softened her features, and occasionally, when she frowned, a faint line would appear between her brows.
After writing the last stroke, Mu Siwan looked up, nodded at the screen, and patted her head.
— Affirm yourself.
Bo Yan stared at her movement.
Kind of cute.
He couldn't help it; he covered his eyes with the back of his hand and leaned back on the sofa, chuckling softly. He laughed for a while before stopping, and when he looked up, he met her strange gaze.
He straightened his expression.
"Finished writing?"
"Um."
He took the dark blue velvet bag out of his pocket and handed it over.
"Open it and take a look."
Mu Siwan looked up from the TV and glanced down at the bag.
She took it and opened it.
Two rings lay inside. Plain bands, simple in design, gleaming softly under the light.
She paused for a moment, then looked up at him.
"Rings," Bo Yan said, "It suddenly occurred to me that we should have a pair too."
