Slow to mature after marriage
Chapter 12 Week 5
After swiping his card and signing the form, Wang Jin walked out of the jewelry store carrying a heavy bag.
"Why did you decide to give your wife gold?" he couldn't help but ask. "There's plenty in Yanhe International's safes; you don't need to make a special trip."
Bo Yan didn't stop walking, his tone revealing a subtle meaning.
"Otherwise what?" he retorted expressionlessly. "You want me to personally pick out a bunch of bones and deliver them to her?"
Sending gold is so easy.
She doesn't really care about money; she just leaves it lying around. Gold is more practical; if she wants to buy bones, she'll just trade for them herself.
In short, he couldn't possibly nitpick.
It is absolutely impossible.
-
When Bo Yan pushed open the door, the living room was bathed in warm yellow light.
He paused for a moment as he changed his shoes.
Mu Siwan squatted beside the coffee table, her back to him, holding something in her hand. Grace was coiled at her feet, her head tilted slightly back, her tongue flicking in and out.
She was feeding snakes.
Bo Yan leaned against the entrance hall without making a sound.
In her hand she held a thawed baby mouse, small and grayish-white, suspended in front of Grace with tweezers. Grace stared at the baby mouse, slightly recoiled, then suddenly lunged forward and snatched it in her mouth.
Mu Siwan didn't let go, letting it hold the food in its mouth, waiting for it to slowly adjust the angle and swallow it.
Throughout the entire process, she remained motionless, her gaze focused, as if observing some precise experimental reaction.
Bo Yan glanced at it for a few seconds, then picked up the bag and walked over.
The footsteps startled Grace, who swallowed the last bit of her tail and turned to flick her tongue at him.
Mu Siwan turned around, saw him, and then saw the bag in his hand.
"You're back?"
"Um."
He placed the bag on the coffee table with a heavy thud.
Mu Siwan glanced down at the bag, then looked up at him.
"What?"
"A gift." He sat down on the sofa, his tone casual. "Grandma asked me to buy it."
Mu Siwan was stunned for a moment.
She put down the tweezers, stood up, and looked down at the bag. Grace swam over and curiously rubbed against the bag.
She bent down and opened the bag.
Golden light emanated from within.
Three gold bars, neatly stacked. A pair of plain gold bracelets, wide and thick, rested on top.
Mu Siwan stared at the gold and remained silent for a few seconds.
Then she looked up at him.
"Gold?"
"Um."
Why buy gold?
"I want to apologize to you." Bo Yan leaned back on the sofa, crossed his legs, and said, "Grandma said I neglected you for three years."
Mu Siwan paused.
"If that's the case, you don't actually need to apologize."
Bo Yan raised an eyebrow.
She said sincerely, "The three years you were abroad were the most comfortable three years of my life."
No one will suddenly appear and hit her.
Go wherever you want.
No one was there to control her.
There is also a non-existent husband who deposits five million into the account every month.
Bo Yan lowered his eyes, pondered the meaning of the sentence for a moment, and then looked up at her.
"So," he said slowly, "my move-in is making you less comfortable?"
Mu Siwan was stunned, not expecting Bo Yan to understand it this way.
"That's how it started," she said after careful consideration, "but—"
She paused, as if considering her words.
Bo Yan waited.
After a few seconds, she looked up at him.
"But then I found out you weren't really that much of a problem."
"You don't talk much, you don't argue, and you don't suddenly lose your temper." She paused, "and you even send me gold."
Bo Yan raised an eyebrow.
"That's all?"
"And another thing," she thought for a moment, "is that you can accommodate all the strange things about me."
Bo Yan rested his chin on his hand, looking up in confusion: "Any normal person could do that."
Mu Siwan looked at him.
"No," she said, "normal people can't do that."
Bo Yan was taken aback.
He wondered how many abnormal people she had encountered over the years to make her say those words to him.
Mu Siwan looked down at the snake coiled at her feet.
"And Grace," she said, "you brought her back."
She looked up and met his gaze.
"So, now it's a different kind of comfort."
-
Late at night.
After they both took a shower, they lay down on the bed.
The bed was large, with a half-meter gap in the middle. Grace was curled up on her own special mat at the foot of the bed, already asleep.
Mu Siwan lay on her side, with her back to him.
Bo Yan clasped her hands behind her head, staring at the ceiling, her mind still replaying her earlier words—"No normal person can do that."
"Mu Siwan".
"Um?"
"If a normal person can't do it, then it means you've met someone who isn't normal."
Half-asleep, Mu Siwan asked instinctively, "Then what did I encounter?"
Bo Yan told her, "He's a nosy idiot."
Unexpectedly, the man said that, and Mu Siwan was stunned for a long time.
Then she laughed out loud.
It was very soft and short, like a sound that couldn't be held back and leaked out.
He tilted his head to the side.
She had her back to him, but by the moonlight, you could see her shoulders trembling slightly.
He had never seen her like this before.
It's not the kind of slight twitch at the corner of the mouth, an illusion-like curve.
He was genuinely laughing.
"What are you laughing at?" he asked.
She didn't answer; her shoulders were still shaking.
Bo Yan leaned closer, trying to see her face clearly.
She turned her head away, buried her face in the pillow, and said in a muffled voice, "It's nothing."
His voice still carried a lingering hint of laughter.
"I'm going to sleep, Bo Yan."
She said it softly at the end.
This was the first time Mu Siwan had called his name.
It's not "General Manager Bo," not that dry title, it's "Bo Yan."
The last syllable rose in pitch, carrying an undisguised smile, and came out muffledly from under the pillow.
Bo Yan was stunned.
He stared at the back of her head buried in the pillow, at her hair scattered on the side of the pillow, and at the hand that was sticking out and still clutching the corner of the blanket.
Fair and clear, just like her.
My heart skipped a beat.
He jumped again, this time very hard.
"Thin inkstone".
Those two words are still echoing in my ears.
He suddenly felt a strong urge to pull her out of the pillow and see her expression.
But he didn't move.
After a long time, he gently lay back down and stared at the ceiling.
The corners of his mouth slowly turned up.
He covered his eyes with his hand and couldn't help but chuckle silently.
What is she laughing at?
Bo Yan didn't understand.
Just like he doesn't understand why he's laughing now.
-
The next morning, the sound of water came from the bathroom again.
Mu Siwan opened her eyes groggily, staring at the ceiling and wondering: Does Bo Yan have the habit of taking a bath twice a day, morning and evening?
I don't quite understand.
As soon as Bo Yan stepped out of the bedroom, she sat up and stared at him.
From top to bottom, from bottom to top.
Expressionless.
It's like observing a less common sample of lifestyle habits.
Bo Yan was already used to her gaze and calmly entered the dressing room.
After changing his clothes, he leaned against the doorway, slowly adjusting his cufflinks.
Then she looked up and met his indifferent gaze.
"What are you looking at this time?"
Mu Siwan thought for a moment and said seriously, "I'm considering how often you take showers."
Bo Yan paused.
"Twice a day, morning and evening," she continued, "higher than normal, but below the standard for obsessive-compulsive disorder. It might be due to high activity levels, or—"
She paused, then shifted her gaze downwards.
"Or what?"
"Or it could be an increase in body temperature due to physiological needs."
Bo Yan was momentarily speechless at her words.
He looked at that serious face and suddenly smiled.
"Mrs. Bo," he began slowly, "why are you being so direct today?"
Mu Siwan thought for a moment.
"Because it's Friday."
Bo Yan raised an eyebrow.
She added in a flat tone, "It's helpful to know about Sunday's events beforehand—"
"Stop." Bo Yan raised his hand to interrupt her, his Adam's apple bobbing impatiently. "If you keep analyzing like this, I might have to take another shower."
Mu Siwan was stunned for a moment, not understanding.
Bo Yan didn't explain, and turned to walk downstairs.
He took two steps, then stopped and looked back at her.
"It's Friday today, Mrs. Bo."
His smile was meaningful.
Have a pleasant day at work.
Mu Siwan sat there, watching his figure disappear at the top of the stairs.
Grace swam over from the foot of the bed and rubbed against her ankle.
She looked down at the snake and remembered what he had just said.
Friday.
Two more days.
