The month after signing the contract, Shen Yu'an received his first share of the profits from the gallery.

The painting of a street lamp in the rain was sold, and the money went into his account.

When he saw the payment notification in his studio, he picked up his phone and looked at it several times.

Then he put down his phone without telling anyone.

He went downstairs to his study. Xize was looking at documents when Shen Yu'an knocked on the door.

Xize looked up: "What's wrong?"

"That painting of a rainy night has been sold."

Xize put down the documents: "So fast?"

"The money arrived today, which was negotiated with the gallery."

Xize looked at him and said, "So now you're someone who's made money."

Shen Yu'an walked in and sat down opposite him: "You made a profit. Not much."

"The amount of the first sum isn't important," Xize said, leaning back in his chair. "How do you plan to spend it?"

Shen Yu'an thought for a moment: "I haven't decided yet."

Xize didn't ask any further questions and continued reading the documents. Shen Yu'an stood up and walked out.

He thought about it all the way back to his studio. The money wasn't a lot, but it wasn't a small amount either, but he didn't want to spend it carelessly.

He wanted to give Xize something, something that could last a long time.

He browsed the internet for several days and finally ordered a handcrafted mechanical watch with a dark dial, simple and unpretentious design. The place where it was custom-made could engrave it.

He wrote in the order notes: "To my hero".

The package arrived four weeks later.

Shen Yu'an opened the box in his studio, glanced at the engraving on the back of the watch, then closed the box and placed it next to the easel.

After dinner, Xize sat in the living room looking at his phone. Shen Yu'an came downstairs and walked up to him.

Xize looked up: "What's wrong?"

"Close your eyes."

Xize glanced at him, put down his phone, and closed his eyes.

Shen Yu'an placed the wooden box on the coffee table in front of him: "Open your eyes."

Xize opened his eyes and looked down at the box on the coffee table.

He picked it up and opened it, his fingers lingering on the watch case for a moment. He took the watch out, turned it over, and saw the engraving on the back.

Xize remained silent for a few seconds.

Shen Yu'an stood in front of him: "I've engraved some words."

"I saw it." Caesar's thumb rubbed against the text. "When did you order it?"

"After the money for that painting arrived."

Xize fastened the watch to his wrist, and then rotated his wrist.

Shen Yu'an bent down and leaned closer to look: "Is the size right?"

"suitable."

"Will it be tight?"

"It's not serious."

Shen Yu'an straightened up and stood back in front of him: "Then you can wear it."

Xize looked up at him: "It says 'To my hero'."

"Um."

"Who is the hero?"

Shen Yu'an looked at him: "You."

Xize didn't speak immediately. He glanced down at his watch again; the dial was simple under the light, and the silver hands were moving. Then he looked up and met Shen Yu'an's eyes.

"You painted a picture and got a new watch in return."

"Um."

"All spent?"

"I set aside money for art supplies and rent."

Xize was silent for a moment. Then he reached out and pulled Shen Yu'an closer, wrapping his arms around his waist and resting his chin on his stomach.

Shen Yu'an stood still, his hand on Xize's shoulder.

"Thank you, baby." Xize's voice muffled against his clothes.

Shen Yu'an looked down at the top of his head: "It's just a watch. We can buy other ones later when we have more to draw."

"This one is enough."

Shen Yu'an moved her hand from his shoulder to the back of his head, her fingers running through Xize's hair, and gently brushed it aside: "Whatever you like."

Nishizawa released his grip, leaned back on the sofa, and glanced down at his watch once more.

The hands on the dial are still moving, and the sentence engraved on the back is hidden behind the case, only visible when the watch is taken off.

Xize adjusted the watch clasp to a more comfortable position on his wrist, then lowered his hand and looked up.

Shen Yu'an sat down on the sofa next to him, glanced down at the watch, and then looked up at him.

"Is it pretty?"

Xize raised his wrist slightly: "Beautiful."

"Then I'll buy it for you next time."

"Buy it for yourself next time."

Shen Yu'an leaned back on the sofa: "I haven't decided what I want to buy for myself yet."

"Then take your time thinking about it." Xize lowered his hands and placed them on his knees. "No rush."

Shen Yu'an hummed in agreement, leaning back on the sofa with her shoulder resting against Xize's arm. The living room remained quiet for a moment.

Xize asked, "When did you order it?"

"When you're at work."

"You went there secretly?"

"Um."

Xize's lips curved into a smile: "Take me with you next time."

"If I take you there, it won't be considered sneaking around."

"Then you can secretly buy it for me next time."

Shen Yu'an tilted her head and glanced at him: "Do you like having gifts secretly bought for you?"

"If you like buying things secretly, then I like it too."

Shen Yu'an turned his gaze back to the front and did not reply.

He nestled on the sofa, his shoulder resting against Xize's arm, and the two sat quietly for a while.

Xize's phone lit up briefly; he picked it up, glanced at it, and then put it down again.

Shen Yu'an noticed that before looking at his phone, he subconsciously glanced at his watch first, and only looked at his phone after checking his watch.

Shen Yu'an didn't say anything, but the corner of his mouth curled up slightly.

He shrank back into the sofa, leaning against it more securely.
