Chapter 34 Envy of Others
Xize took Shen Yu'an home first. He asked the housekeeper to heat up a glass of milk for Shen Yu'an and also asked the housekeeper to make some food.
Shen Yu'an sat on the living room sofa, holding a glass of milk, watching Xize standing in the foyer making a phone call.
Xize's voice wasn't loud, and Shen Yu'an couldn't hear what he was saying, only seeing his profile.
He didn't get angry, didn't raise his voice, and his expression was very calm, just like when he was talking about business normally.
But he spoke slower than usual, and each word was spoken very carefully. Shen Yu'an knew that was when he was seriously dealing with something.
After finishing the call, Xize walked over, sat down next to Shen Yu'an, and reached out to touch his hair.
"I'm going to the school. You stay home and rest; don't worry about me."
"Are you going to see the professor?"
"Okay, go take care of it."
Shen Yu'an wanted to say that she would go too, but Xize had already stood up.
He lowered his head and kissed Shen Yu'an on the forehead, saying he would come back tonight to have dinner with her.
Shen Yu'an nodded.
When Nishizawa arrived at the school, the president and department head were already there. The professor had already spoken with the school administration by phone, but since Nishizawa had come in person, the school's attitude was clearly more serious than before.
The principal personally waited for him at the office door.
Xize shook hands with the principal, speaking politely and courteously, but something beneath that politeness sent a chill down the principal's spine.
He didn't say anything harsh, just, "I hope this matter can be dealt with seriously." His voice wasn't loud, and he spoke slowly, but every word was clear.
The principal immediately said that he had reviewed the surveillance footage and was investigating. Xize agreed and said he would wait for the results.
The surveillance footage was retrieved quickly.
There are two security cameras in the corridor of the studio, one of which captured the time period when people entered and exited the area where Shen Yu'an's easel was located.
A person appeared in the picture, wearing a dark coat, who went into the studio and came out in less than five minutes.
Although the image quality is not high-definition, the body shape and gait are easy to identify.
The department head looked displeased after seeing it and said, "This is Marcus, an upperclassman."
After watching the surveillance footage, Xize asked what the relationship between this person and Shen Yu'an was like.
The professor truthfully explained Marcus's recent decline in grades and worsening attitude. Caesar listened, nodded slightly, and remained silent.
The principal stated on the spot that the matter would be dealt with seriously.
Xize stood up, shook hands with the principal, and said thank you for taking this matter seriously, and that he had great faith in the school's fair handling of the matter.
That's very polite of you.
But the headmaster understood that this politeness came with pressure. If he didn't deliver a result that would satisfy the Leicester family, the consequences would be dire.
When Caesar came out of the principal's office, he ran into Marcus in the corridor.
Marcus had come to find out what was going on, but when he saw Caesar come out of the principal's office, he froze on the spot.
He didn't recognize Xize, but that person had an incredibly strong presence; he was clearly no ordinary person. His gaze was utterly devoid of warmth when he looked at him.
Xize saw him too. He glanced at him only once before looking away, as if he were looking at something unimportant.
Then he walked forward, passing Marcus without stopping or even slowing down.
But that one glance sent a chill down Marcus's spine.
That gaze held no anger, no threat, just utter indifference. Like looking at a bug blocking the way, not worth even half a second.
As Xize walked out of the teaching building, he took out his phone and sent a message to Shen Yu'an.
"It's been resolved. The school will take it seriously."
After finishing, he got into his car and started the engine. As the car drove out of the school gate, he glanced at the rearview mirror; the school buildings were getting farther and farther away in the mirror, and he looked away.
He won't let this go so easily.
The school can handle it, but he has his own methods. However, Shen Yu'an doesn't need to know about these things.
Shen Yu'an only needs to know that no one will dare to touch him again.
When Shen Yu'an got home, he was sitting on the living room sofa with a sketchbook on his lap, drawing something. When he saw Xize come in, he put down his pen, stood up, and walked over to him.
"How is it?"
"We've found out. It's that guy named Marcus. The school will handle it."
Shen Yu'an was taken aback: "It really is him."
"Um."
Shen Yu'an thought for a while and said, "I don't understand why he did that."
Xize raised his hand and brushed the hair from his forehead, saying that some people are not good enough themselves, so they hope that others are worse than themselves.
You don't need to understand, just stay away from him in the future.
Shen Yu'an nodded, then picked up his sketchbook and showed it to Xize. It was a newly drawn sketch of a window with branches extending in from outside.
"I painted this at home today," Shen Yu'an said. "The original painting is gone, but I can paint a new one."
Xize glanced at the sketch. The brushstrokes were lighter than in the previous drawings. Although it was just a draft, it was clear that Shen Yu'an's emotions had calmed down.
"When will you start coloring?"
"Tomorrow, I'll redraw it, and it'll be even better than the original."
Xize looked at the look in his eyes when he said those words, and the corner of his mouth curled up slightly.
"I believe you."
Shen Yu'an closed his sketchbook and put it aside, then leaned over and hugged Xize's waist. He pressed his face against Xize's chest and stayed there quietly for a while.
"Daddy."
"Um."
Were you being aggressive when you went to school today?
"No."
"So how did they handle it?"
Xize patted his back gently, saying that they were in the wrong. Shen Yu'an didn't ask any more questions, but just hugged Xize a little tighter.
It was getting dark outside, and the butler came over to ask what they wanted for dinner. Shen Yu'an said anything was fine, but Xize said to make what he liked.
Shen Yu'an leaned against Xize's chest, listening to his steady heartbeat, and felt that most of the grievances she felt this morning had dissipated.
A painting can be repainted, but the fact that someone will rush over and hug you in their arms is more important than anything else.
A few days after that incident, the school released its findings.
Marcus received a demerit, but the specifics of the punishment were not disclosed. He also needs to apologize to Shen Yu'an in person and compensate for the cost of the damaged art supplies.
Shen Yu'an was painting in the studio when he received the notification. He glanced at it and put down his phone without saying anything.
Marcus came to his studio that afternoon.
Standing at the door, his face was not good, and his voice was not loud. He said "I'm sorry".
Shen Yu'an looked up at him, nodded, and said she understood. She didn't say anything else.
But he never saw Marcus again.
Marcus turned and left. Shen Yu'an continued painting, his hand steady.
He told Xize about it when he got home that night.
Xize was looking at documents in his study. After listening, he simply hummed in agreement and said, "He deserved it." Shen Yu'an didn't press for details about how the school handled the situation, and Xize didn't elaborate either.
Shen Yu'an leaned against the desk, holding a cup of tea, watching Xize sign documents with his head down. He thought for a moment, then called out to him.
"Daddy."
Xize raised his head.
"Thank you."
Xize smiled. "Silly girl, why are you thanking me? This is what I should do, baby. If I couldn't even protect you, I wouldn't have bothered with you."
He stopped thinking about Marcus, picked up his teacup, walked over to Caesar, and leaned in to take a look at the documents Caesar was signing.
He couldn't quite understand the dense English text, so he looked away.
After signing the last document, Xize put the pen back in the pen holder. He turned his chair to face Shen Yu'an, reached out and pulled his wrist to draw him closer.
Shen Yu'an took a step forward, stood between his legs, and looked down at him.
"Will this kind of thing happen again in the future?" Shen Yu'an asked.
"Not necessarily. But I'll handle it if I encounter it again."
Looking at his serious expression, Shen Yu'an felt at ease.
He reached out and touched Xize's hair, his fingers running through the soft, deep golden strands. Xize didn't flinch, tilting his head back to let him touch him.
"You don't need to worry about any of that," Caesar said, placing his hand on his waist. "You just need to focus on drawing and having fun; leave the rest to me."
Shen Yu'an paused for a moment.
The words were spoken so casually, as if it were just a casual remark about the weather. But as Shen Yu'an listened, he felt something warm travel from his ears all the way to his heart.
He bent down, his forehead touching Xize's forehead.
"So what are you responsible for?"
"My responsibility is to make you happy."
Shen Yu'an chuckled and nuzzled Xize's nose with her own.
"You did a great job."
Xize's lips curved into a smile, and his hand moved from his side to his lower back, gently embracing him. The two men's foreheads touched, neither pulling away.
After a moment of silence, Shen Yu'an straightened up and said, "I'm going to paint." Xize nodded.
Shen Yu'an smiled and left the study, going upstairs to his art studio.
He sat down in front of the easel and picked up a paintbrush. Sunlight streamed in through the window, falling onto the canvas. He mixed the colors and began to paint.
In the past, when he painted, he would always think a lot, such as whether the painting could get a high score, what other people would think of it, and whether the professor would like it.
But now he finds himself not thinking about these things much anymore.
When he paints, he only has the image itself in his mind.
Whether this color matches that color well, whether this line goes smoothly here or not. He had no other thoughts. He simply drew what he wanted to draw.
As he was drawing, he remembered what Xize had said: "You only need to focus on drawing and being happy."
Shen Yu'an glanced down at his hand holding the paintbrush. Paint was smudged between his fingers, making it a little dirty, but he thought it was fine. Clean hands couldn't produce good paintings.
He continued drawing.
Forget about Marcus, the punishment, and all that other nonsense. Someone else will handle those things; he doesn't need to worry about it.
All he needs to do is draw.
All you need to do is be happy.
Xize covered for him in both of these matters.
