Chapter 73 Riding Horses

The villa is a detached small building with white walls and gray tiles. There is a pomegranate tree in front of the door, which is laden with bright red fruit hanging from the branches.

Pushing open the door, you'll find a large living room with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the lake. The entire wall is made of glass, and the scenery of the lake and mountains looks like a painting hanging on the wall.

The sofa was light gray, and a bouquet of flowers sat on the coffee table in a white porcelain vase, with water droplets still clinging to the petals.

厨房不大,但东西很全,灶具、餐具、咖啡机,一应俱全。楼上是卧室。

Yang Zhiyan went upstairs and took a look. Then she came back down. Her expression was somewhat subtle.

"Qin Yuzheng, there's only one bedroom upstairs." She stood at the top of the stairs, looking at Qin Yuzheng sitting on the sofa.

Qin Yuzheng looked up, his expression innocent. "It's okay, I'll sleep on the sofa."

杨栀言看着他,行吧,有人爱睡沙发,她没有道理阻止。

Yang Zhiyan put down her bag, sat on the sofa for a while, and looked at the lake outside the window.

Around 10 a.m., the group gathered at the horse farm. The farm is located on the west bank of the lake and is quite large, with tracks winding along the shoreline, including both indoor and outdoor sections.

The grass was real grass, soft to the touch, and glistening with dew.

The stable houses more than a dozen horses, some tall and strong, others short and stocky, in colors such as black, white, and chestnut, all with glossy coats.

She didn't recognize those people, so Qin Yuzheng introduced them to her one by one. This one was the founder of a certain company, and that one was a partner of an investment institution. There were men and women, all between thirty and forty years old.

Everyone was very polite, calling her "sister-in-law" or "Miss Yang." Such politeness and courtesy are common in our circle; anyone who gets a formal introduction from the person in charge is no ordinary person. If it were just a brief mention, it wouldn't carry much weight.

Yang Zhiyan thought, perhaps they were of high quality, or perhaps they were just two-faced. She didn't care; she would just be herself. Yang Zhiyan greeted everyone with a graceful and poised demeanor.

Qin Yuzheng chose a black horse, very tall, with a black and shiny mane.

The horse's name was "Night Shadow." When Qin Yuzheng walked over, the horse lowered its head and nuzzled his hand, as if it had known him for a long time.

Yang Zhiyan stood to the side, looking up at the horse, a voice in her mind saying, "How do I get on?" Qin Yuzheng patted the horse's neck and turned to look at her.

"For your first ride, choose a gentle one." He walked to the back of the stable and led out a white pony, much shorter than the black one, with big eyes and long eyelashes, looking very gentle.

"Its name is Xiaoxue, it's very well-behaved, and it's suitable for beginners." Qin Yuzheng handed her the reins.

Yang Zhiyan took the reins, stood next to Xiaoxue, raised her hand to touch its head, but pulled it back halfway.

秦于政站在她身后,手覆上她的手背,带着她的手慢慢伸过去,放在小雪的马鬃上。

The mane is stiff, unlike the soft fur of a cat, but it has a rough, warm feel.

Xiaoxue turned her head and glanced at her, exhaling a puff of warm breath that tickled the back of her hand. She couldn't help but laugh.

"It likes you," Qin Yuzheng said, his voice coming down from above her head, low and with a hint of laughter.

When Yang Zhiyan tried to mount the horse, she couldn't get it on the stirrups even after several attempts.

Qin Yuzheng bent down, supporting her calf with one hand and helping her put her foot into the footrest, while holding her waist with the other hand.

His hands were large, and when his palms covered her waist, they enveloped her entire waist.

Her body stiffened for a moment, then relaxed. She told herself, "This is teaching, this is normal, don't overthink it." But her palms were sweaty.

"Follow me, walk slowly."

Yang Zhiyan pulled on the reins, and Xiaoxue left as well.

She walked slowly, her body swaying back and forth on horseback. Qin Yuzheng slowed down and rode alongside her.

"Don't stiffen your back, follow the horse's rhythm." He reached out and gently pressed on her side.

His fingertips pressed against the muscles on her side through the fabric of her shirt, then released them, as if to tell her, "Relax here."

Yang Zhiyan blushed. She lowered her head and looked at Xiaoxue's mane, pretending to be studying diligently.

Qin Yuzheng nimbly mounted Nightshade. Once on horseback, he seemed like a completely different person.

He was flamboyant and confident, as if this horse and this track were his territory.

He tugged on the reins, and Nightshade strode forward, its hooves clattering on the grass. He turned to look at her and reached out his hand.

Two horses walked slowly along the lake shore. The lake was vast, the water was clear, and you could see the aquatic plants and fish swimming around underwater.

The mountains on the opposite bank are green, and at their foot are several villas with white walls and gray tiles, nestled among the trees.

An eagle was flying in the sky, its wings spread, circling motionless.

A breeze blew across the lake, carrying moisture and the sweet fragrance of osmanthus blossoms from afar.

As Yang Zhiyan sat on the horse, her body finally relaxed, and she began to feel the horse's gait, rising and falling.

"Qin Yuzheng," she called him.

"Um?"

When did you learn to ride a horse?

"Around ten years old. Every summer I was sent to the army, where I learned a little bit of everything."

"Is there anything you can't do?"

Qin Yuzheng thought for a moment. "I won't lie to you."

Yang Zhiyan paused on the reins, then fell silent. A breeze from the lake blew her hair across her face. She didn't try to smooth it.

After riding for over an hour, Yang Zhiyan's legs started to ache. When she dismounted, her legs buckled slightly, and Qin Yuzheng reached out to support her arm. His hand rested on her forearm, and his thumb pressed against the inside of her wrist. There was a pulse there, beating rapidly.

He sensed it, and without letting go, he supported her for a while until she was steady before releasing her.

After resting for an hour, the two went to play shooting.

The shooting range is indoors, and the air conditioning is very strong. You can smell a faint gunpowder smell as soon as you enter.

The shooting range stretched out long, with targets at the far end, almost invisible. Qin Yuzheng picked up a pistol and gripped it skillfully.

Yang Zhiyan also took one, and almost couldn't hold it; it was much heavier than she had imagined.

Qin Yuzheng helped her adjust her grip on the gun, placing her fingers outside the trigger guard and the base of her palm against the handle. He then reached around from behind to support her shoulder and steady her.

His chin was almost touching her ear. The position was so close that she could feel the warmth of his breath.

"Three points in a line," he said in a low voice, as if he were speaking to her alone, "the crosshair, the notch, the target, align them before pulling the trigger."

"You keep pressing the trigger, I'll hold the gun."

Her finger was on the trigger and didn't move, but his finger covered hers and pulled it once.

"Bang—" The gunshot rang out, louder than expected, making eardrums buzz. Yang Zhiyan leaned back slightly, but he caught her.

The target paper was returned; the score wasn't high, but it hit the target. Qin Yuzheng said, "Not bad," in a tone as if praising a student who got a perfect score.
