Chapter 102 You're smart to know what's good for you
Yang Zhiyan was stunned for a moment, then smiled.
"No need, you can go back. I'm fine by myself, just a little sleepy. You should go back to work. Come see me this weekend if you're free."
Qin Yuzheng looked at her. She looked beautiful when she smiled and spoke, her eyes crinkling and the corners of her mouth turning up.
He took his ticket out of his pocket and placed it on the coffee table in front of her. Yang Zhiyan glanced down at it, then looked up at him.
"I've taken a year's leave. I have some important things to handle on the computer. I can stay with you in Beijing for a week, and then come back after you've settled in."
Yang Zhiyan opened her mouth as if to say something, but then closed it again.
Then she reached out and punched him in the chest.
"Fine, Qin Yuzheng. You actually lied to me." She punched him again.
Qin Yuzheng didn't dodge; he was being punched by her, and the corners of his mouth curved up.
"You pretended to be angry yesterday, and I had to coax you all night." She punched him harder, but her strength was like a tickle to him.
Qin Yuzheng grabbed her wrist and held her hand in his.
"I'm not pretending to be angry," he said. "I really don't want you to go alone."
Yang Zhiyan looked at him. His eyes reflected her image, the lights of the lounge, and his self-assurance and honesty.
She pulled her hand out of his grasp and punched him again. This time it was much gentler.
When boarding the plane, Yang Zhiyan walked in front, and Qin Yuzheng walked behind, pulling the suitcase with one hand and holding her hand with the other.
Shortly after the plane took off, Yang Zhiyan fell asleep again.
She leaned on Qin Yuzheng's shoulder, her head tilted to the side, her mouth slightly open, her breathing long and even.
Qin Yuzheng pulled down the sunshade, covered her with a blanket, and then picked up the magazine in front of him and started reading.
Qin Yuzheng glanced at one page, but couldn't get into it. He closed the magazine and turned his head to look at her sleeping.
She was very quiet when she slept; she didn't snore or talk in her sleep, she just quietly leaned against his shoulder.
About an hour into the flight, Yang Zhiyan was awakened by a commotion.
Yang Zhiyan did not open her eyes and continued to maintain her breathing rhythm.
She sat by the window, Qin Yuzheng sat in the middle, and there was another seat across the aisle.
The speaker was a flight attendant. She stood in the aisle, turned sideways, facing Qin Yuzheng, holding a bottle of water in her hand, and asked him if he wanted a drink.
He tried to strike up a conversation with Qin Yuzheng using various excuses, but Qin Yuzheng basically didn't respond.
She asked one question after another. Her voice was very pleasant, soft and gentle.
Yang Zhiyan closed her eyes and realized that it wasn't a service, but a flirtation.
Qin Yuzheng finally lost his patience.
"Please don't bother me. I don't need anything. You're disturbing my girlfriend's sleep, and I'll complain about you."
The flight attendant's smile froze on her face, her hand still clutching the bottle of water.
She finally left. Yang Zhiyan could tell from the rhythm of her walk that she was flustered, and she almost tripped over her own foot.
Yang Zhiyan opened her eyes a crack.
Qin Yuzheng was looking down at her, his gaze fixed on her face, his expression gentle and patient.
"Little lazy cat is awake?" He reached out and brushed the stray hairs from her forehead.
"Are you hungry? Would you like something to eat?"
Qin Yuzheng unscrewed a bottle of water and handed it to him, saying calmly, "Drink some water first."
Yang Zhiyan took the water, drank a sip, and leaned on his shoulder, her voice languid.
"That flight attendant was quite pretty."
Qin Yuzheng continued to gently stroke her hair. "I wasn't paying attention," he said.
Yang Zhiyan thought to herself, "You're smart to know what's good for you."
At the end of the aisle, in the catering area, the flight attendant who had struck up a conversation earlier was standing next to the water dispenser, still holding the bottle of water that hadn't been served.
Another flight attendant, slightly older than her, came over and patted her on the shoulder.
"Focus on your work and stop thinking about these trivial things. You won't get a top-notch man."
The flight attendant who had struck up a conversation kept her head down and put the water back on the cart.
The plane bumped as it passed through the clouds. Qin Yuzheng's hand slid down from Yang Zhiyan's shoulder, took her hand, and they intertwined their fingers.
Yang Zhiyan closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of his palm. She thought to herself, this man is hers. How wonderful.
The plane landed in Beijing.
As the plane taxied, the fuselage vibrated slightly. Yang Zhiyan leaned on Qin Yuzheng's shoulder, her eyes half-open and half-closed.
She had slept the whole way and was still a little groggy. Qin Yuzheng pushed the sunshade up, and the light from the window flooded in, shining on her face. She squinted slightly.
"Have we arrived?" Her voice was hoarse from just waking up.
"We're here." Qin Yuzheng removed the blanket from her and folded it neatly, placing it on the seat.
The two collected their luggage and walked out of the arrival hall. Beijing was colder than Haicheng; the wind blowing in from the exit carried the dryness and chill characteristic of the North.
Yang Zhiyan, wearing a light jacket, hunched her shoulders as the wind blew. Qin Yuzheng took off his scarf and wrapped it around her neck.
The scarf was dark gray, cashmere, and still warm from his body.
Yang Zhiyan buried her face in her scarf and took a deep breath; it was all his scent.
A black sedan was already waiting in the parking lot.
The driver, who was in his forties, stood by the car, wearing a dark jacket and with a proper posture.
Upon seeing Qin Yuzheng emerge, he quickly approached and took the suitcase from him.
"Mr. Qin, the car is ready. Shall we go to the house first?"
"Okay." Qin Yuzheng opened the back door and let Yang Zhiyan get in the car first.
The car drove out of the parking lot and merged into the traffic of Beijing. Yang Zhiyan leaned against the car window, looking at the street scene outside.
The roads in Beijing are wide and the buildings are very tall.
The last time she came to Beijing was the year she graduated from university. She traveled with her classmates, stayed in hostels, took the subway, and ate street-side noodles with soybean paste.
At that time, she felt that Beijing was very big, so big that she could never walk to the end.
Now she was sitting in a black sedan, with her boyfriend next to her. The street scenes outside the car window flashed by, and she suddenly felt that Beijing wasn't so big anymore.
"Tired?" Qin Yuzheng asked.
"It's alright." Yang Zhiyan yawned.
Qin Yuzheng pulled her over and let her lean on his shoulder. "Take a nap, I'll wake you when we get there."
After driving for about forty minutes, the car turned onto a quiet street.
The streetlights were low, casting an orange glow on the road. The car stopped in front of a black iron gate, which was closed. Next to it was a small sign with the address number.
The driver got out of the car, pressed the access control button, and the iron gate slowly opened. The car drove in.
This neighborhood, hidden deep in a hutong, unassuming and without a sign at the entrance, is a place where those in the know understand how valuable such a small building is in Beijing, where land is incredibly expensive.
The car was parked in front of a three-story building.
The building is not tall, with gray brick exterior walls and black wrought iron window frames. A persimmon tree grows in front of the entrance, with several orange-red persimmons hanging on it, looking like small lanterns under the streetlights.
Qin Yuzheng got out of the car, took the suitcase from the driver, and led Yang Zhiyan to the door.
He entered the password, and the door opened. The entryway light was voice-activated, and when it turned on, Yang Zhiyan could see what was inside the house.
