"The gas stations further away probably haven't been touched yet."

Lou Yunzheng remained calm and unfolded the map that his father had been marking, pointing to a gas station marked with a red triangle.

"Go here."

Lou Qingjian had mentioned that gas station to Lou Fengyue before. It was located on the side of the national highway, in a high-altitude area with few people, but it was a bit far away.

The city is teeming with zombies, so most people wouldn't bother searching far and wide. That gas station probably hasn't been searched.

Lou Fengyue turned the car around and stepped on the gas. "Dad is so meticulous. He marked the whole map and even wrote notes. I have to praise him when we get home."

Lou Yunzheng smiled and folded the map. "They always feel that we're out there taking risks and they can't help us by staying at home, so they always want to do more logistical work."

"Isn't this great?" Lou Fengyue smiled, her eyes crinkling. "Our family of four works together. You and I go out to find supplies, and when we come home, we can have a hot meal."

The brother and sister chatted as the car sped toward the gas station on the national highway.

But then the system issued a new task.

[Random mission now issued: Assist the Linjiang City Safe Zone Command in clearing zombies from the safe zone.]

[Task Time Limit: 48 hours]

[Tip: Providing guidance and leading the team will earn you a higher evaluation level.]

Lou Fengyue frowned.

This damn system keeps forcing me to be a savior!

That notification was useless; Lou Fengyue had already figured out the system's evaluation criteria.

The first random mission was to help Liu Wu and Chu Sinian obtain supplies. That time, she didn't take them out; she only helped them find food.

The task evaluation is Grade A.

Later, he guided Chu Sinian in using his supernatural abilities and taught him how to kill zombies to practice, which earned him an SSS rating.

Therefore, for any task involving "helping" or "assisting," it's not enough for her to be skilled herself; she must teach others survival skills in the apocalypse in order to receive high praise and rewards.

Ugh, what a hassle!

[System, why don't you just tell me what the reward will be for completing this mission?]

Special reward items will drop randomly and cannot be specified.

Lou Fengyue: ...

You bastard.

Meanwhile, the Linjiang safety zone.

Qin Qian received a voice message from Lou Fengyue and immediately sent people to rescue the mother and daughter.

He then probed Lou Fengyue's attitude further: {Comrade Lou Lan, Director Song was unaware of the situation this morning and her attitude wasn't very good. I apologize to you on her behalf.}

There was no reply, as expected.

Qin Qian sighed, staring at the hotel floor plan spread out on the table, feeling like all his brain cells were about to die.

Class D zombie.

Among the current superhumans, who can defeat him?

he does not know.

I don't know how zombies are classified, nor do I know if people with superpowers are also classified.

He didn't even know the strength of the currently registered superhumans.

It should be said that, apart from Lou Fengyue, no one knows the answer.

An hour later, the six awakened superhumans from the special police and armed police teams, along with the twenty-three newly recruited superhumans, a total of twenty-nine people, all gathered in an empty clothing store on the second floor of Cuiping Shopping Mall.

Qin Qian walked in with a heavy expression, holding a list that listed the types of superpowers of each person.

"Gentlemen, a Class D zombie appeared in the hotel area this morning. It's faster, has thicker skin, and is much harder to deal with than any zombies you've seen before. We don't yet know if there are any survivors in the hotel, how many zombies there are, or what their level is. The drones can only gather limited information from the perimeter, so we need you to infiltrate and investigate."

"This mission is extremely dangerous, but if you don't go, everyone in the safe zone will face a threat to their survival. Your family, friends, and companions may all die in the monster's mouth."

"We need to form a ten-person team to go in and scout the area. Who would like to volunteer?"

After Qin Qian finished speaking, the clothing store was silent for a few seconds.

The twenty-nine superhumans looked at each other, some looking down at their shoes, some pretending to straighten their clothes, and some simply turning their faces away.

No one raised their hand.

Qin Qian's gaze swept across the crowd and landed on Luo Zeyan.

Luo Zeyan leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, his expression revealing nothing.

Li Yichen stood next to him, his lips moved as if he wanted to say something but then he swallowed it back.

"I'll go." A voice rang out from the corner.

Everyone looked in the direction of the voice and saw a man in his forties with dark skin, rough hands, and wearing a faded work jacket.

"My name is He Jun, Jin Xi. I served in the army when I was young, and I will absolutely obey orders." He stepped forward, his voice not loud but steady. "My daughter is waiting for me at home. I can't let the monster break in."

Qin Qian nodded and made a note on the list.

"I'm going too." Lu An squeezed out from the back of the crowd, his face showing the fearlessness of a newborn calf. "I'm ice-type, I can control the field. There's no one at home, so I have no worries."

Hearing this, Qin Qian looked up at the nineteen-year-old boy in front of him, and his nose felt a little sore.

He recognized the child; he had always been by Lou Fengyue's side, and she had pulled him back from the brink of death.

Chu Sinian followed behind him, sighed helplessly, but did not stop him, nor did he sign up.

He and his younger brother depended on each other for survival. What would happen to his brother if he couldn't come back?

Luo Zeyan leaned against the wall, watching the hands that were gradually raised, and lowered his head in silence for a long time.

Seeing that he remained silent, Li Yichen was somewhat surprised and leaned closer to lower his voice, saying, "Didn't you always rush to be first before? Why are you hesitating this time?"

Luo Zeyan looked up and glanced at him. "You want to go?"

"I don't care," Li Yichen shrugged, hooking his arm around his shoulder. "If you go, I'll definitely go with you, even if it costs me my life!"

Luo Zeyan didn't reply, remained silent for a few seconds, then looked up at Qin Qian: "Captain Qin, what if there are still D-level zombies inside? Can a ten-man team handle it?"

Faced with Luo Zeyan's question, Qin Qian simply pursed his lips and did not answer.

He was well aware of how dangerous this operation was, so he only sent small teams in to investigate, not to clean up, and to evacuate quickly if they encountered danger.

Even though it's just an exploration, it's still full of uncertainties.

They had never fought against a Class D zombie before and had no idea just how powerful these monsters were.

If the reconnaissance team were to encounter a Class D zombie head-on, whether they could defeat it or not was one thing; the most crucial question was whether they could escape.

If we escape, will the zombies follow us? Will they endanger the others in the safe zone?

He had considered all of these issues.

But there is no answer, nor is there a precise and safe solution.

The sudden outbreak of the zombie virus caught everyone off guard, and they could only learn through trial and error.

In this process, sacrifice is inevitable.
