Young Master Gao? Call me Little Grand Secretary!

Chapter 7 No Good People in the Gao Family

Gao Zhao had done some research on the official position of Yuhou, and there were roughly three types.

One type is the Chief of the Imperial Guards, a high-ranking military officer among the Three Military Commands, who must be at least a rank-rank officer or higher to be eligible for the position.

One type is the Yuhou, who is a junior officer with no rank or grade.

The last type is that high-ranking military officers are accompanied by attendants and guards, and Lu Qian was probably like that, otherwise he wouldn't have had the time to go to Cangzhou to kill Lin Chong.

"Let him in!" Despite his resentment, Gao Zhao decided to meet this loyal man who had betrayed even his dearest friends and family for his sake.

A short while later, a man entered, his face full of worry. Gao Zhao looked him up and down with great interest.

This person betrayed his friends for wealth and status; he is truly not a good person.

But then again, if it weren't for Gao Yanei's actions, he probably would have been best friends with Lin Chong for life!

In fact, the moment Fu An uttered his name, he had no other choice!

In the end, they are just pathetic creatures under the power of authority!

Thinking of this, Gao Zhao felt that he had been elevated again, and his heart was filled with compassion, which was a kind heart!

"Young master, I've met with misfortune, please take me in!" Lu Qian quickly approached Gao Zhao and bowed deeply.

Gao Zhao feigned great shock and cried out, "Who dares to bully you like this!"

Lu Qian cried out in anguish, "Because of what happened today, Lin Chong smashed up my house and is now guarding my door with a knife, trying to kill me!"

Gao Zhao's expression relaxed, and he patted his chest, saying righteously, "I wondered what it was all about! It's alright, you can stay here with me for a few days, and even if Lin Chong is bold, he won't dare to cause trouble here!"

"Thank you so much for your protection, young master!" Lu Qian was moved to tears and bowed repeatedly.

Looking at the unresponsive panel, Gao Zhao cursed inwardly, thinking, "These people are indeed ungrateful and treacherous!"

He had a sudden thought: should he lure Lin Chong over to scare him, and then jump out to save his life?

With that in mind, there's no need to worry about him not contributing gratitude points to his account!

That's feasible. Lin Chong is just putting on an act; he won't actually kill anyone. He'll probably just curse a few times and throw a few punches to settle things!

As he was pondering this, he turned his head and saw that Lu Qian also looked thoughtful, with a fierce glint in his eyes.

Gao Zhao was taken aback, but Lu Qian was the first to recover and bowed, saying, "Young Master, I have a plan..."

"Alright! Let's not talk about that now!" Gao Zhao waved his hand and instructed the servant, "Arrange accommodations for him and treat him well!"

The servant obeyed the order, and Lu Qian had no choice but to leave together.

There's no need to listen to his plan; Gao Zhao already knows what he's going to say!

Lin Chong may not have intended to kill him, but Lu Qian certainly did!

The two were longtime friends, and Lu Qian must feel guilty for betraying Lin Chong this time.

Small feelings of guilt are manageable and can be made up for, but what if the guilt is too great and cannot be resolved?

To avoid being tormented by guilt, I had no choice but to kill him!

It seems illogical, but it reflects human nature!

Gao Zhao was somewhat dissatisfied that Lu Qian hadn't offered any gratitude points, but he felt he had to protect him!

Regardless of the other party's character, he is causing trouble for me by working for me. If I ignore him today, who will be willing to risk their life for me in the future?

After everyone left, Gao Zhao lay back on the couch, continuing to ponder how to increase his gratitude points.

But as he was thinking, he fell asleep!

The series of misfortunes today have taken a heavy toll on his mental and physical well-being, making it impossible for him to resist the drowsiness.

When Gao Zhao woke up again, it was already the next day. He looked around and tried to make out his surroundings. He had no choice but to accept reality. Everything that happened yesterday was not a dream!

After getting up, I found that my strength had recovered a lot, and I was not as weak as I was yesterday!

After washing up, he was just about to go out and explore the capital city of the Song Dynasty when his servant hurriedly stopped him, saying urgently, "Young master, you can't go out! Lin Chong is guarding outside the mansion with a sharp knife!"

Gao Zhao immediately knew that Lin Chong had come to cause trouble for Lu Qian, but his open and aboveboard manner did not seem like he was going to kill someone!

It's simply to tell others that Lin Chong is not someone to be trifled with!

Gao Zhao was certain that if he went out now, Lin Chong would just pretend he didn't see him!

But there's no need for that. What's the point of humiliating an honest person like that?

"I'll just take a walk around the mansion!" Gao Zhao waved his hand and walked out of the courtyard.

The servant opened his mouth behind him as if to dissuade him, but then, remembering his temper, he shut his mouth.

Walking among the carved beams and painted rafters, admiring the beautiful scenery in the pavilions and waterside terraces, only one type of person feels a sense of unreality and disorientation.

Several maids approached, and Gao Zhao smiled as he looked at them, only to see them quickly walk past with their heads down.

Gao Zhao frowned slightly and continued walking. He passed through a corridor and arrived at a courtyard gate, where guards stood watch. Upon seeing him approach, they immediately stopped him, saying, "Young master, you are not allowed to enter the back courtyard without permission!"

Gao Zhao glanced at him and saw that the man's eyes were contemptuous and his mouth was sarcastic, clearly showing his disdain for him. Could he tolerate this?

"You dare hit me!" Gao Zhao shouted urgently, taking several steps back.

The guards were stunned and hadn't even reacted when they heard Gao Zhao weakly cry out, "Help! Someone help me!"

The guard, terrified, hurriedly protested, "Young master, please don't wrong someone!"

"Who would believe that?" Gao Zhao scoffed, continuing to shout, "Go to hell! Go to hell!"

The guards were all numb. Although this young master Gao was useless, he was still a member of the Gao family. If things got out of hand, regardless of the truth or the wrong, he would definitely be the one to suffer if he clashed with his master. However, he was not afraid. He dared to do this because he had someone behind him!

Just as he was about to straighten his back, Gao Zhao whispered, "Do you think your powerful backer might turn against me to protect you?"

The guard sneered inwardly, thinking that someone might use the fact that the guard had slandered him as an excuse to get back at him.

"Do you think my father would tolerate a fool like you who clashes with the main family?"

The guard's expression suddenly changed, forgetting that this was not just a matter between the two of them, but also concerned the reputation of the Gao family.

"Guess what I'll do to you? Don't you have parents, a wife, and children?"

The guard fell to his knees with a thud, trembling as he said, "Young master, spare my life! I know I was wrong!"

"Are you scared?"

"I'm scared!"

"How do you think I'm going to torture you?"

The guard was covered in cold sweat, kowtowing repeatedly and begging incessantly. Although the Song Dynasty forbade keeping slaves and even more so of privately punishing people, with the power of the Gao family, killing him would be as easy as playing a game.

Gao Zhao felt he had suppressed his anger enough, and suddenly laughed, "Don't be silly, I was just teasing you!"

"Huh?" The guard was taken aback, then overjoyed and kowtowed repeatedly.

Gao Zhao turned and left, looking at the extra bit of gratitude points he had accumulated, feeling that he had mastered another life hack.

However, he had a vague feeling that something was wrong. Men from outside the household were not allowed to enter the inner quarters without permission, but could he be considered an outsider in the Gao family?

Furthermore, he lives in the side courtyard, not the room his son should be in. There seems to be another reason behind this!

Yet Gao Yanei was able to act recklessly because of his status, and Gao Qiu even personally set a trap for Lin Chong. This doesn't seem like they didn't take him seriously at all!

Without understanding his own situation, he dared not get into conflicts with anyone!

As Gao Zhao walked and pondered, he unknowingly arrived at a garden. There, he saw lush trees, birds singing and flowers blooming, and a pond with shimmering waves where mandarin ducks played.

"Dig a pond at home, that's so extravagant!"

Gao Zhao sighed inwardly and walked towards the artificial hill, intending to rest. As he approached, he suddenly heard sobbing. He looked in the direction of the sound and saw a maid squatting behind the artificial hill, crying.

"What's wrong with you?" Gao Zhao was kind-hearted and couldn't bear to see this, and was even more afraid that if someone saw it, they would misunderstand that he was bullying someone.

The young maid was crying so intensely when she was suddenly interrupted. Startled, she was even more alarmed when she saw it was Gao Zhao. She hurriedly stood up, almost falling over.

"Don't panic..." Gao Zhao quickly waved his hand to comfort him.

The maid was even more frightened and tried to run away with a look of terror on her face.

Gao Zhao's face immediately darkened, and he said in a harsh voice, "Stop! If you dare to run, I'll break your legs!"

The young maid froze, too afraid to move, and pleaded, "Young master, please spare me! I've already been pitiful enough!"

Gao Zhao perked up immediately: "How are you so pitiful? Tell me!"

"My mother is sick, and the doctor at the pharmacy said it will cost a lot of money. I wanted to ask the household for an advance, but the steward said there's no such rule... Waaah..."

Gao Zhao untied the money pouch from his waist and handed it over generously, "Is this enough?"

The maidservant thought he wanted to hear about her hardships to amuse herself, but she never expected him to actually take out money.

She looked at the purse, then at him, and seemed to understand something. After hesitating for a moment, she gritted her teeth and reached out to take it, saying, "Thank you, young master!" Then she turned and ran away.

Gao Zhao stared at the unresponsive control panel and gritted his teeth, saying, "The Gao family is truly devoid of good people; even their maids have no sense of gratitude!"
