Lu Yun walked in, her eyes scanning the surroundings like radar.

The living room was empty, the dining room was empty, and even the kitchen terrace was empty.

However, she did sense something very different about the house.

For example, various cat toys are placed on the ground.

Lu Zhiheng has always been focused on his career and simply doesn't have the time or energy to raise these pets that require a lot of effort and time.

But the fact that these things appeared in his house means that he really does have a girlfriend, and it's very likely that he and that woman are already in a semi-cohabiting relationship.

"What are you looking at?"

Lu Zhiheng walked up behind her without her noticing.

Suppressing her shock, Lu Yun turned around and pointed to the automatic cat feeder beside her feet. "Why did you suddenly decide to get a cat?"

Lu Zhiheng answered frankly, "My girlfriend likes it."

Lu Yun hadn't expected Lu Zhiheng to admit it so readily; she had gone to such lengths, trying to find out about it indirectly.

"No, you really have a girlfriend?"

Since he didn't intend to hide it, Lu Yun had nothing to hide either.

She immediately started repeating all of Grandma Lu's questions: "Who is he? What does he do? How old is he? When are you bringing him home for us to meet?"

She asked a long series of questions, but Lu Zhiheng didn't answer any of them.

"What's the point of bringing my girlfriend home to show you? Besides, if any of these questions you asked didn't meet your expectations, would you even object?"

"That's impossible."

Lu Yun chuckled to herself and then made a statement, "I'm just concerned about you. My brother finally found a woman he likes. Don't say I won't object; if anyone dares to say a word against it, I'll be the first to stand up and argue with them."

Lu Zhiheng glanced at her indifferently, without replying.

Lu Yun was puzzled by his gaze. "Why are you looking at me like that? What, don't you trust your sister?"

Lu Zhiheng withdrew his gaze and replied with a single word, "No."

Lu Yun laughed again. "So, when are you going to bring it home for us to see?"

Lu Zhiheng handed her the water, saying, "What's the rush? You'll take it back when the time is right."

After all that talk, it was as if I hadn't said anything at all.

Lu Yun scoffed, somewhat disappointed. She had thought that Lu Zhiheng's quick admission meant that good news was really on the horizon.

"Alright, it's your own business. You can figure out how to handle it yourself."

Lu Yun knew her younger brother well; he had always been very opinionated, and no one could force him to say or do anything he didn't want to do.

She knew she wouldn't get anything out of him today, so she changed the subject, "I actually came here today to ask you something else."

Thinking about this, Lu Yun felt a pang of worry. "I heard from Shi Jing that Songsong has a boyfriend? You live so close to her and work at the same company, have you seen that man? Do you know if he's a classmate from school or a colleague at work?"

Lu Zhiheng's gaze behind his glasses deepened imperceptibly. "Did you switch to doing a census tonight? You just finished checking me, and now you're checking her?"

Lu Yun clicked her tongue. "I didn't want to either, but it's all for Shi Jing's sake. He hasn't been eating or drinking at home these past few days, and he's been depressed every day. He looks visibly much more haggard."

Lu Zhiheng didn't comment much on this, saying, "I advise him to accept reality. He's almost twenty-five; he's long past the age of throwing tantrums when he doesn't get what he wants."

Lu Yun: "..."

She noticed that Lu Zhiheng had become increasingly sharp-tongued lately.

"After so many years of relationship, how can you just let go like that? The same goes for Songsong. She has always been sentimental. As for her having a new boyfriend, in my opinion, she's just being stubborn with Shijing."

Lu Yun continued talking, completely unaware of Lu Zhiheng's increasingly dark expression. "You are, after all, Shi Jing's uncle. When your own nephew encounters a problem he can't solve, instead of helping him, you say such hurtful things."

"How can I help?"

Lu Zhiheng scoffed, "Are you helping him find a new girlfriend or helping him win back his ex-girlfriend?"

His already dwindling patience was almost exhausted. "You have the nerve to complain that my words are hurtful? Why don't you complain about the hurtful things your son did?"

Lu Yun hurriedly defended her son, "Didn't I explain this to you before? There was indeed a reason for it. Now his condition has improved, and he can..."

Before she could finish speaking, Lu Zhiheng forcibly interrupted her, "Back then, when you wanted to break up with someone, you didn't give them a single explanation and dumped them abruptly; now that you want to get back together, you still don't respect her wishes. If she doesn't agree, it means she's still angry. If she has a new relationship, it means she's just being stubborn with you."

Lu Zhiheng spoke without any mercy, "According to your and your son's thinking, Wen Song is nothing but your appendage. She doesn't deserve her own thoughts, she can't have her own life, and she's destined to revolve around you two forever?"

Lu Yun had no such intention at all, and she couldn't understand where Lu Zhiheng's sudden condemnation came from. "Songsong came to the Zhou family when she was twelve years old. Over the years, I have always treated her as my own daughter. How could I possibly treat her as some kind of appendage?"

"Stop constantly saying 'treat her like your own child'!"

Lu Zhiheng's tone unconsciously rose, "Just because her father saved Zhou Shijing's life back then, it's only right that you treat her well in this life."

His angry gaze fixed on Lu Yun, and he said, word by word, "Furthermore, if you truly consider Wen Song your child, please put yourself in her shoes. Would you entrust your daughter to a man who hurt her so badly?"

After Lu Zhiheng finished speaking, there was a moment of silence.

Lu Yun was stunned, her lips opening and closing several times, but she couldn't find a single word to refute it.

Lu Zhiheng finished speaking, then glanced at the bedroom and saw the slightly ajar door, and let out a deep breath.

"Alright, I need to rest. If there's nothing else, you can go back now."

With a click, the door closed, followed by the sound of Lu Zhiheng's footsteps getting closer and closer.

Wen Song opened the door before he could come over.

"Aunt Yun is gone?"

Lu Zhiheng nodded, his gaze falling on her delicate face. "Didn't I tell you to hide in your room? Why were you eavesdropping on our conversation?"

Wen Song lowered her head and pursed her lips. "I didn't mean to eavesdrop. I was just a little worried that you and Aunt Yun would argue because of me."

"There was no argument."

Lu Zhiheng raised his hand and ruffled Wen Song's hair. "It was just normal communication. It's my fault for not controlling my volume."

Wen Song felt a pang of sadness and bitterness in her heart. She had heard every word Lu Zhiheng had said in defense of her.

She lowered her head even further. "Lu Zhiheng, there's something I've always wanted to ask you: if Miaomiao's mother hadn't been me, but someone else, would you have treated that person the same way?"
