Wen Song and Zhong Man agreed to meet at the school gate.

Zhong Ze personally drove over to pick her up. Upon seeing Wen Song, he smiled and called out, "Little Sister Wen."

Wen Song greeted him obediently, "Brother Zhong Ze."

She sat side by side with Zhong Man in the back seat. Zhong Man chattered on about the interesting things that happened at school that day, while Wen Song quietly listened.

The two are only one year apart in age, but their personalities are completely opposite.

Zhong Ze glanced at the rearview mirror. "Zhong Manman, can't you learn from your sister Songsong and have some ladylike manners? You're always rushing around and making a fuss."

"What? You think I'm noisy? Go find my mom if you dare, that's how she raised me!"

Still not satisfied after her retort, Zhong Man added, "When you can treat Songsong with the same care that Shi Jing treats her, then you can come and ask me to be as gentle as Songsong!"

Zhong Ze only said one sentence before Zhong Man launched into a barrage of retorts.

But he was already used to his sister's sharp tongue, and calmly retorted, "I'm afraid that's impossible. Shi Jing treats Wen Xiaomei like his future wife. We're siblings, how can we be the same?"

The two bickered back and forth, with Wen Song listening calmly but not quite agreeing with Zhong Ze's statement.

It's true that Zhou Shijing has always been good to her, but unlike what Zhong Ze said, he doesn't treat her like a future daughter-in-law. Instead, he takes care of her more like an older brother looking after a younger sister.

Even after they got engaged, he always kept his distance from her. The only time they had any intimate contact was on the day he won the racing championship, when he excitedly hugged her.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Zhong Ze and Zhong Man went upstairs first, while Wen Song waited for a while before following them up.

Zhong Man deliberately left a crack in the ward door. Wen Song stood by the door and could just see Zhou Shijing, who was wearing a blue and white striped hospital gown and sitting against the headboard.

The bandage on his head was still on, but he looked much better than he did on the day of the car accident.

His tone of voice when talking to Zhong Ze and his sister was the same as always, and occasionally, when they talked about something happy, he would unconsciously smile.

"Oh my god, Shi Jing, what's this? It looks so cute."

Wen Song looked up and saw that Zhong Man was pointing to the small cookies that she had asked Lu Yun to bring that morning, which were now piled up in the corner of the bedside table.

Zhong Man must have recognized her too, which is why she brought it up on purpose.

"My mom brought it. If you like it, feel free to take it and eat it."

Zhong Man quickly waved her hand, "I was just saying it casually. Auntie specially brought it for you, Shi Jing. How could I possibly take it from you, a patient?"

"I don't like eating this."

Zhou Shijing casually picked up the box of cookies and handed it to Zhong Man, saying, "They're dry and sweet; I guess only little girls like you would like them."

"Huh? But I saw you eating them quite heartily before, and you even said that your favorite food was the cookies that Sister Songsong baked."

Zhong Man blurted out her true feelings without thinking.

There was a two-second silence, followed by a "click".

No one expected that Zhou Shijing would throw the box of cookies directly into the trash can.

He seemed to have suddenly become a different person, a surge of irritation instantly appearing in his eyes. "It's Wen Song again! Why does everyone have to mention her name in front of me? Why does she always deliberately try to get my attention? Don't you know how annoying this behavior is?"

Zhong Man was stunned for a moment. She only knew that Shi Jing had temporarily forgotten about Song Song, but she never expected that he would reject her so much.

She glanced at the faint shadow at the door of the ward out of the corner of her eye, and a deep sense of self-reproach welled up in her heart. She shouldn't have taken it upon herself to bring Sister Songsong here.

Wen Song watched helplessly as Zhou Shijing ruthlessly tossed the box of cookies into the trash can, a wave of resentment welling up inside her.

It wasn't that he didn't want to eat the box of cookies; he simply didn't like the person who made the cookies and gave them to her.

He said he hated her, hated her so much that he didn't even want to hear her name.

His current attitude towards her is even worse than towards a stranger.

A wave of bittersweet pain washed over Wen Song. Before the tears could fall, she hastily turned to leave, only to bump into a solid, cold chest.

"Yes, I'm sorry!"

Wen Song took a step back, hurriedly looked up, and unexpectedly met a pair of calm and deep eyes.

Lu Zhiheng's chest jolted slightly from the impact. Seeing the little girl in front of him with reddened eyes, a hint of confusion flashed in his eyes as he asked, "Why aren't you inside? What are you doing standing here?"

The words had barely left his mouth when Zhou Shijing's still-angry voice rang out from the ward, "Who is it? Who's outside?"

Wen Song was afraid of being exposed and making Zhou Shijing even angrier, so before Lu Zhiheng could speak, she made a "shh" gesture to him with pleading eyes.

"Don't tell anyone I'm here."

After hastily speaking in a breathy voice, she fled in panic toward the emergency stairwell.

Lu Zhiheng watched the little girl's slender figure disappear completely around the corner of the corridor before pushing open the door to enter the ward. "Her voice is quite loud, it seems she's recovering well. She can be discharged in a few days."

Zhou Shijing was initially filled with anger, but upon seeing the man's imposing and dignified face, his fierce aura subsided, and he whispered, "Uncle."

Lu Zhiheng responded calmly, nodded slightly to Zhong Ze and his sister, then turned his gaze back to Zhou Shijing, his expression sharp. "Didn't the doctor say you needed to rest? What were you throwing a tantrum about just now?"

Zhou Shijing pursed his lips and remained silent.

Zhong Ze stepped forward to smooth things over, "Second Brother, it's nothing serious. Manman just accidentally mentioned Wen Xiaomei's name, and Shi Jing couldn't hold back his emotions."

Lu Zhiheng is only thirty years old this year, which is why he is of a higher generation than Zhou Shijing.

Because he is the second oldest in his family, everyone in the circle respectfully calls him "Second Brother".

After explaining, Zhong Ze patted Zhou Shijing's shoulder helplessly, "Shijing, you used to cherish Wen Xiaomei like the apple of your eye, how come you've forgotten her and are even so hostile towards her?"

Zhou Shijing frowned deeply, but dared not act recklessly again because Lu Zhiheng was present. His voice was cold and deep, "The past is the past. The reality is that I really don't remember her! So, please don't mention her in front of me in the future."

Hearing these words, Zhong Man felt a pang of sadness for Wen Song. She winked at Zhong Ze, "Brother, don't you have something to do? Why don't we go first and let Shi Jing recover properly?"

Zhong Ze sighed, "Then we'll be going now, and we'll come see you again in a few days."

After Zhong Ze and his sister left, the ward instantly returned to silence.

Lu Zhiheng pulled up a chair and sat down by the hospital bed. He looked directly at Zhou Shijing, his sharp and clear eyes, which were used to seeing through people's hearts, seemed to have a strong penetrating power. "Zhou Shijing, you are twenty-four this year, not fourteen. I believe I don't need to say more about the principle that everything in excess is as bad as deficiency."

Zhou Shijing's face turned pale for a moment. He turned his face away and said in a deliberately indifferent tone, "I don't understand what you're talking about."

Lu Zhiheng's voice was low and calm, without a trace of harsh anger, but every word carried the authority and guidance of an elder: "What I'm saying is not important. What's important is that you understand clearly what you are doing."
