Miss Witch, even if we're poor, we can't sell ourselves!
Chapter 29 The Drunken Night
Miya stood beside Mebius, shoulder to shoulder, arm to arm, both of them frozen, neither moving.
Her mind raced over the line of text that had just popped up after observing the other person's expression.
Personality Tendencies
[Lack of patience for low-quality social interactions]
Miya pondered this sentence over and over in her mind several times.
Low-quality social interaction.
What is low-quality social interaction?
It's probably the kind of polite greeting like "Hello, what do you need?" or "Have a nice evening."
She understood this principle when she was a VTuber. People who watch streamers through a screen hate it most when the streamer reads a script.
The little witches want sincerity, even if it's just a little bit.
Miya took a deep breath.
She was now leaning against Möbius, so close that she could see the fine strands at the ends of his short hair, which shimmered with a faint, deep blue sheen under the light.
She looked up and turned to look at Möbius, who was looking down at the bar counter, his earlobes still red.
"Miss Möbius."
Miya spoke.
Her falsetto was very soft and didn't sound cloying at all; it was like the natural feeling of someone who had just taken a shower and was sitting on the sofa chatting with their roommate.
Möbius turned to look at her, his dark, pale eyes widening slightly in the lamplight.
"I know you're here to inspect. According to the rules, I should stand properly to the side and answer whatever you ask."
She placed her hands on her knees, then turned her head and smiled at Mebius.
"But you look a little tired."
Mebius's eyelashes twitched.
"I noticed when you ordered that drink earlier. You flipped through the menu several times and finally chose the one at the very bottom corner, which is stronger and darker in color."
Miya's voice was steady, each sentence sounding like it came out naturally, without any trace of memorizing a script.
"Customers who usually choose this kind of wine are either in a bad mood or are too tired from working overtime and want to relax. You don't look like you're in a bad mood, so you're probably just tired."
Mebius did not answer, but her lips pursed slightly, as if she had been touched on something.
"So I think you probably don't need a waiter standing by reciting service phrases."
Miya lowered her voice even further.
"How about you order me a drink, we can drink together, and then it'll be like sitting at the bar after work, chatting casually with the people next to us about life."
She paused for a moment and tilted her head.
"I'm actually quite tired today too."
Mebius opened his mouth, as if to say something.
She wanted to say that this was a work setting, that she was there to conduct an inspection, and that she shouldn't be sitting at the same table drinking with the person she was inspecting.
But looking into Mi Ye's eyes, those light-colored eyes were shining brightly at her, with a hint of cautious probing and a touch of sincere expectation.
She suddenly realized that she couldn't bring herself to say no.
"……Um."
Mebius heard himself say that.
Then she added another sentence, her voice even softer than before, as if afraid of being heard by the chat in the live stream.
"You order, I'll pay."
Miya's eyes lit up.
She turned around and waved to Zimi Lu behind the bar. Zimi Lu put down her glass and came over. Mi Ye ordered a non-alcoholic drink in a very low voice and then checked again to make sure that Mebius's glass didn't need a refill.
Zimi Lu nodded, turned around to mix drinks, and walked a little more briskly than usual.
The live chat is going crazy with comments.
"No, no, no—Miss Mebius should be the one on the offensive!!!"
"Oh my god, Möbius's shy expression is so delicious!"
"I also want a maid to ask me in that voice if I'm a little tired."
"Is this the aura of a little girl's mother?"
"I also want to be stepped on by the maid."
"Tone it down a bit!! There's a screen recording in the live stream!!"
"But seriously, did you guys notice Möbius's expression just now? She usually has that calm look when she goes to other stores for checkups, and she never blushes."
"Yeah, she had a completely blank expression during her previous checkup, but her ears turned red today."
"What does this mean? It means the little maid is cute."
"If I were Mebius, I would have fallen for him too."
"I've kowtowed."
Zimilu quickly placed a light-colored, low-alcohol beverage in front of Miye, with a small slice of lemon stuck in the rim of the glass.
Miya picked up her glass, stirred it gently with the straw, then turned to Möbius and raised the glass.
"Cheers?"
Möbius glanced at her. Then he raised his own glass and gently touched it to Miya's.
The sound of glass colliding was crisp and clear, like a pebble being thrown into water in the quiet hall.
When Miya picked up her low-alcohol drink, she felt incredibly steady.
Lemon slices float on the light-colored liquid, and the straw is made of paper and bent into a nice arc.
She took a small sip.
It's sweet, refreshing, and has a slight bitterness from the lemon peel—delicious!
She took another sip; it tasted good.
Then I took another sip, and it tasted good.
Then her cup was empty.
Miya looked down at the tiny bit of liquid remaining at the bottom of the cup and blinked.
She didn't know when she finished drinking it; she only felt that her throat was still thirsty, her lips were still dry, and her heart was still beating fast.
She turned her head and saw that there was still more than half a glass of wine left in front of Möbius. The light shone through the glass and made the wine look like a liquid gem.
"Um, Miss Mébius."
Miya's voice was a little sticky. She poked at the lemon slices in her empty cup with a straw, looked up at Mebius, and her light-colored eyes were covered with a thin layer of water.
"Could I have a sip of your drink too?"
Mebius paused for a moment, his hand holding the wine glass still.
"This drink has a very high alcohol content."
Her voice returned to its usual calm and unhurried tone, but there was an obvious hint of warning in her voice, even a touch of caution.
"It's different from what you just drank."
"It's okay, I just want to try it."
Miya nodded, her expression as serious as if she were listening to a teacher's lecture, and then reached out and took the wine glass in front of Mebius.
Mebius's hand remained in the position of holding the cup, his fingers suspended in mid-air, the fingertips slightly curled.
She wanted to say something, but Miya had already brought the rim of the cup to her lips.
After the first bite, Mi Ye's expression changed. Her eyebrows furrowed, her nose wrinkled, her lips pressed into a line, and she shivered slightly.
The burning sensation of the liquor spread from the back of my tongue to my throat, like a thin line of fire burning from my mouth all the way to my stomach.
"So spicy qwq——"
Her voice rose half an octave, but then sank back down softly at the end.
Möbius reached out to take the cup back.
"Don't force yourself if you don't like it—"
Miya moved the cup closer to herself, avoiding her hand.
Then he took another big gulp.
Mebius watched helplessly as half of the deep amber liquid in his glass sank down.
Miya put down her cup, wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, her eyes sparkling, and her cheeks flushed at a visible speed.
The blush started on the cheekbones and spread outwards, across the bridge of the nose, reddening the earlobes, and finally even turning the neck a light pink.
"actually."
Miya stared at the empty cup, as if she were talking to it.
"Actually, it tastes pretty good, but it burns your throat."
The tone of her voice began to change.
The falsetto is still there, but it's softer than usual, and the ending sounds involuntarily rise, as if each sentence has a fluffy tail.
Mebius's hand was still hanging in mid-air.
"You've had too much to drink."
Miya turned to look at her, her eyes curving into two crescent moons, and gave a silly smile.
"No, I only had one drink. Two drinks? Just two. I'm not drunk."
Mebius did some mental calculations with concern.
The little maid finished most of the glass in less than ten minutes, even though the wine was almost 50 proof.
"I'm really not drunk."
Miya repeated it again, her voice sticky and muggy.
She raised her hand to make an "OK" sign, but her fingers didn't cooperate and ended up in a strange shape.
She stared at her fingers for two seconds, then suddenly put her hands down and tugged at the lace trim on her collar.
"It's so hot."
she says.
? !
Möbius's expression froze.
Miya's fingers hooked onto the white lace trim at the neckline of the maid's outfit and pulled it outwards.
The lace, which had been neatly wrapped around her collarbone, was pulled back by her, revealing a small section of even whiter skin and the outline of her collarbone.
She pulled her sleeve down a little with her fingers, and her rounded shoulders slid out from the black fabric, glowing with a faint pink hue under the warm light.
"It's so hot... Is the store's air conditioning broken...?"
Mebius's brain completely shut down at that moment.
Her reason told her that she should immediately reach out and pull Miya's clothes back.
But she can't.
Because Mi Ye was tilting his head to look at her, a few strands of his light golden short hair were messy and stuck to his flushed cheeks, his eyes were misty from the alcohol, and his lips were stained a deeper pink than usual by the strong liquor.
Her skin, set against the black fabric of her maid outfit, was as white as milk. The exposed part of her shoulder was rounded and delicate, and the curve below her collarbone rose and fell gently with her breath.
Mebius was single for over twenty years.
Her life trajectory was simple: studying, taking exams, joining associations, working, working overtime, and going home to sleep.
Her social circle was small, and she only interacted with professionals at work. Everyone maintained a polite social distance; no one had ever gotten that close to her, no one had ever sat next to her arm, and no one had ever tilted their head to look at her with those watery eyes.
No one has ever taken off their clothes in front of her, not even just to expose their shoulders.
Her hand lingered in the air for a long time before finally landing stiffly on Miya's shoulder.
Her fingertips touched Miya's bare shoulder skin, the touch soft yet burning hot, like touching a piece of silk warmed by the sun.
Mebius's fingertip bounced back half an inch as if burned, but did not move away completely.
"...Put your clothes on quickly, this is a public place."
Mebius's voice had completely lost its composure.
"But it's so hot, Miss Mébius."
Miya didn't notice the stiffness in Mebius's fingers at all.
Instead, she leaned forward a little and rubbed her chin against the back of the hand that Möbius was using to support her shoulder; her chin was also hot.
Mebius felt like he was about to explode.
The barrage of comments exploded at that moment.
"My God, my God, my God."
"Take it off, take it off, she's taken it off!!"
"Mebius, where are you putting your hands?!"
"Ms. Mebius, who has been single for twenty years, is facing the biggest test of her life today."
"No, this maid's skin is amazing! And those shoulders, those collarbones—"
"I want to touch it too, waaaaah!"
"Hey, wake up! That's a live broadcast!"
"The screen recording team is ready."
"Screen recording team is ready +1"
"I'm telling you, Möbius, why don't you just push her away?! Why don't you just push her away?!"
"Because she didn't want to push it."
"Because she couldn't bear to part with it."
"Because she fell in love."
"Did you notice that the little maid just rubbed her chin against the back of Möbius's hand?"
"It brushed against me!!! It brushed against me! I saw it!!!"
Mebius didn't care about the comments at all.
Her entire attention was now focused on the little maid in front of her.
Miya was still leaning her head against the back of her hand, her eyes half-closed, her eyelashes trembling gently under the light, her breath carrying a faint scent of wine, mixed with the citrus scent of her own shampoo, which drifted into Mebius's nose.
Her shoulders were still exposed, making one want to reach out and touch them but not daring to.
Mebius struggled with the last ounce of his remaining sanity.
She wanted to push her away, but Miya was just too cute.
She's so adorable that Mebius feels his social defenses, built up over two decades, are crumbling at a visible rate.
"……never mind."
"Mebius said in a low voice."
She carefully adjusted the position of her fingers and gently pulled back Miya's sleeve, which had slipped down, to cover her rounded shoulder.
Miya mumbled a "hmm" in her sleep and didn't resist.
She was probably sleepy.
The alcohol made her body feel hot and weak, and her eyelids began to droop.
She leaned a little closer to Möbius, resting her forehead on his shoulder.
