Fran carried Miya on her back as they walked along the increasingly narrow mountain path, each step heavier than the last.

At first, she was able to maintain the composure of an idol, humming Youyue's new single, and occasionally tilting her head to tease Miye, saying, "Shouldn't you NPCs lose weight?"

Later, she became too lazy to even speak, and a fine layer of sweat appeared on her forehead, her bow hair ornament tilted to one side.

The little guy looked petite on my back, but he got heavier and heavier as I carried him, especially after walking for almost twenty minutes on the mountain path.

"...You're way too heavy!"

Fran finally couldn't hold back any longer. Seeing a relatively flat open space ahead, she rushed over in three steps, squatted down, and unloaded Miya from her back onto the grass like a cargo.

When she straightened up, she supported herself on her knees and panted for a while. Her little wings drooped weakly behind her, the tips of which dragged on the ground.

Miya sat on the grass, her hands neatly placed on her knees, her expression beneath the fox mask utterly innocent.

She really wanted to say that she wasn't heavy at all; how heavy could someone who's less than 1.5 meters tall be? But it was obviously inappropriate to say that now, since the other person had just carried her for so long up the mountain, and she had to acknowledge that kindness.

So he just obediently hummed in agreement and didn't argue back.

Fran caught her breath, straightened up, and began to look around at her surroundings.

They were in a clearing in the woods surrounded by ancient trees.

The grass underfoot was soft and fluffy, covered with unidentified white wildflowers, their petals glowing faintly in the night.

In the very center of the open space was a small burial mound, with several blue stone tablets standing crookedly in the soil. The inscriptions on the tablets had long been blurred by moss and rainwater.

But it wasn't gloomy here. Swarms of summer insects danced among the grass, their tails glowing with a warm golden light, flickering on and off, like someone had scattered a handful of breathing stars on the ground.

They bathed the entire cemetery in a soft light, making even the crooked tombstones seem less frightening.

Fran took the scythe off her shoulder, planted the handle on the ground, and frowned as she scanned the area.

Her magical senses told her that the mission objective was nearby.

But to the naked eye, there was nothing but stone tablets, flowers, and summer insects.

"Strange, the quest marker is in this area... but there's nothing there."

Miya also stood up, patted the grass clippings off her skirt, and looked around.

She could feel it too; the magical reaction was several orders of magnitude larger than the previous soul, so it must be a B-rank monster. However, she couldn't see any suspicious figure within her field of vision.

Just then, the music started.

The live chat suddenly became lively.

[Wow, there's even boss battle music!]

I want to see rivers of blood and fangs!

[Go, Fran!]

Miya instantly crouched down, covering her head in defense.

Fran sensed it too, so she gripped her scythe tightly, her small wings flapped open, and she went into a defensive stance.

The music suddenly turned menacing.

A dark shadow burst out from the black mist and rushed straight at Mi Ye. Perhaps it was because Mi Ye was standing closest to the tomb, or perhaps it was because, in its perception, this little witch who was crouching on the ground covering her head was the one who was the easiest to kill with a single blow.

The monster's mouth was wide open, stretching from the corners of its mouth all the way to its ears, and the layers of sharp teeth inside gleamed with blood in the moonlight.

Fran reacted faster than Miya, taking a sudden step forward.

His right foot left a deep footprint in the grass, crushing the small white flowers at his feet, and he stood between Miya and the monster.

She gripped the long handle of the sickle horizontally with both hands and raised it upwards.

clang--!

The sound of teeth striking the knife handle was sharp and piercing, sending up a small spark that was particularly glaring in the night.

Fran's calves were bent slightly from the pressure, but she gritted her teeth and refused to back down.

The monster's bite force was astonishing; its sharp teeth ground against the scythe handle with a noisy grinding sound, and glistening saliva dripped from between its teeth, almost splashing onto Fran.

"Run! Run!"

Fran turned her head, wanting to shout to Mi Ye behind her to hide, but when she looked back, there was no one behind her; Mi Ye had already run away.

That NPC was pretty quick to run away!

There was no time for further reflection, because the monster's second attack had already arrived.

Miya crouched behind the roots of a large tree, only revealing half of her head and a pair of bright, sparkling eyes.

Her heart was still pounding from the sneak attack, and she watched intently as Fran single-handedly confronted the B-rank monster.

She twirled the large scythe in her hand, the blade tracing a smooth arc in the moonlight, forcing the monster back half a step.

Miya's intuition told her from the very beginning that this little idol was no ordinary person.

Fran continued her standoff with the monster, gripping the hilt of her sword with her right hand. With her free left hand, she reached for her mouth and used her fangs to make a clean cut on the skin of her palm.

Blood gushed from the wound and flowed down, its color a more vibrant red than ordinary blood under the moonlight.

Fran lowered her head, drank the blood from her palm in one gulp, her throat moved twice, and then she smiled, revealing her sharp teeth.

"You are the challenger!"

……

[Holy crap, this is definitely Lady Fran! So arrogant, I love it!!]

[Have you even used the Blood Demon Well yet?!]

[Sister, can you suck my blood from down there?!]

The monster clearly sensed the threat it was facing, abandoned its direct attack, and instead took two steps back, its body gradually dissolving into a cloud of black mist as it retreated.

The black mist flowed swiftly along the ground, then circled behind the stone tablet and disappeared into the shadows where the fireflies of summer could not reach.

Miya lowered her body even further, staring intently at Fran.

Only one thought remained in my mind: quickly learn some techniques and see if I could glean any new insights.
