Chapter 110 Star Tea Party
After Miya sat down at that stall, Fig did not immediately promote how good his club was, how interesting its activities were, or how many assessment points he could get by joining, like other club recruitment representatives did.
She simply held the crystal ball in both hands and gently wiped the snow off its surface with her sleeve.
"My name is Fig, and I am the current president of the Astrology Society."
"I know your name, Mi Ye. You were the top student in the martial arts competition and are Teacher Bie Chenye's last disciple. The whole school is talking about you right now."
After she finished speaking, she paused, her light purple eyes looking at Mi Ye from above the edge of the crystal ball, a faint smile appearing on her lips.
"But the crystal ball told me you would come. It said that someone's soul hides a very deep starry sky, and that you would find this place sooner or later."
When Miya heard the word "soul," her fingers involuntarily curled slightly.
She didn't reply, but just continued staring at the crystal ball.
The silver mist inside the sphere had resumed its slow rotation, and the huge black shadow from before seemed to have never appeared.
Fig followed her gaze to the crystal ball and gently touched its surface with its fingertip.
The silvery mist inside the sphere rippled outwards like disturbed water in a pool, then recombine into a blurry nebula.
"This crystal ball has been passed down from generation to generation by the senior students. Legend has it that its first owner was the witch Yue Jiuye. You should have seen this name in your history textbook. She was the witch of stars and night, the only legend in the history of Bellavita who observed the universe using astrology."
"This crystal ball is the tool she used to observe the universe, but it has been passed down to me for several generations, and many of its uses have been lost. Now I only use it to see the most basic things, such as today's fortune, who will walk in front of my stall today, and whether that person is the one I am waiting for."
She gently placed the crystal ball back, looked up at Mi Ye, her light gray eyes gleaming softly in the sunlight after the snow.
"Would you like to check out the club activity room? It's on the top floor of the activity building, just a few minutes' walk away. It's too cold here, and the snow is getting heavier."
Mi Ye didn't have a specific plan to begin with, and nodded after hearing what Fig said.
She was indeed somewhat concerned about the crystal ball and the name Yue Jiuye behind it. Why would something left behind by a witch who could observe the boundaries of the universe appear in a small astrology club in the Moon Forest?
And what exactly is that huge black shadow?
The activity building is located behind the main teaching building and is one of the oldest buildings in Moon Forest.
The exterior walls are made of large granite blocks, and the walls are covered with ivy that has been dormant in winter. The vines are bent by the weight of snow and hang down to the edges of the windowsills.
The wooden door at the entrance is quite old; it makes a low creaking sound when pushed open.
The building was well-heated, and the air was filled with the scent of old books and wood. Group photos of outstanding student clubs from previous years hung on the walls along the corridor, and the glass frames reflected the warm yellow light from the ceiling.
They went up to the top floor, and Fig stopped in front of the wooden door at the end of the corridor. Fig took out an old brass key from his pocket, inserted it into the lock, and turned it twice.
"There aren't many people in the activity room usually. Our club is the only one on the top floor. Everyone finds climbing the stairs tiring, but we quite like the quiet."
The door opened, and the room was much larger than she had imagined.
It used to be used as an archive or storage room. There are several south-facing windows, all of which are now covered with heavy, dark blue curtains, with only a few rays of midday sunlight leaking through the gaps, drawing a few thin golden lines on the floor.
The main light in the room was off. Countless magically formed points of light, some as big as apples and others as small as blueberries, hung from the ceiling above. They covered the entire ceiling and flickered at different frequencies, simulating a slowly rotating galaxy.
The colors of the starlight are not uniform; some are bluish, some are whitish, and some have a faint pinkish-purple hue. Occasionally, a shooting star-like point of light will streak across the sky, leaving a thin, long silver trail before disappearing in an instant.
Directly below the star map was a round table and several cushioned chairs, and in the corner was an old-looking wooden wardrobe with star map patterns carved all over its doors.
Miya looked up at it for a long time, then couldn't help but ask how the starry sky was made.
Fig said it wasn't her who made it; it was a magic circle left behind by several senior students from previous years. She was only responsible for maintaining it, but it took her a long time to learn how to use it. She recently adjusted the star map back to the real starry sky in December, where you can see Orion, Sirius, and the position of Corona Borealis.
Corona Borealis?
Following the direction of her finger, Mi Ye saw another person sitting by the windowsill, whom she hadn't noticed when she entered because the dim light of the starry sky had obscured their view.
The little girl sat cross-legged on the wide windowsill, leaning against the window frame. The dark blue curtains were pulled open a corner, and her light purple hair was draped over her shoulders, with a few strands fluttering gently in the breeze that seeped in through the window cracks.
She held a monocular telescope in her hand, observing the new students coming and going below through the window.
"That is—"
Just as Mi Ye opened her mouth, the person on the windowsill turned around upon hearing the noise.
It was Corona Borealis, the witch who hurled over a dozen Chaos Bullets at her from the Mirror World.
Their eyes met in the dim starry sky, and the atmosphere instantly fell silent.
Corona Borealis was also somewhat surprised.
She jumped down from the windowsill and stood a few steps away from Mi Ye. Her posture was not as arrogant as when she sat cross-legged in the air during the exam. Instead, she stood with her feet on the ground and her fingers gently tugging at the hem of her skirt.
Then she lowered her head slightly and spoke in a tone completely different from that in the mirror image.
"I'm sorry about what happened last time."
Miya blinked, not quite understanding yet, before Corona Borealis quickly added.
"I said a lot of unpleasant things when I hit you with the Chaos Bullet. After all, I'm a student who studied for a year, and I shouldn't have been so rude to my junior... I feel a little bad about it, so I'm sorry."
After she finished speaking, she bit her lower lip and turned her head to one side, revealing a faint pink blush on her ears.
Miya never expected that Corona Borealis would apologize to her.
In her mind, this little girl was the type who wouldn't back down even if she lost, and might even say some harsh words the next time they met.
"It's okay."
Miya touched the back of her head, her ear tips turning slightly red.
"What you said isn't too much, and your move was really impressive. I almost thought I was going to be kicked out of the exam room."
Corona Borealis raised its head, its light purple eyes sparkling.
"You really think my Chaos Bullet is that powerful?"
After asking the question, she seemed a little embarrassed by her eager tone and quickly added something.
"Uh, actually you're even more amazing! I've never seen anyone withstand this attack before."
Seeing that the two had gone from being combative rivals to praising each other, Fig tucked his hands into the blanket and smiled with satisfaction.
She walked to the round table, pushed the blank membership application form that had been sitting on the table forward, and pushed it, along with the dip pen, in front of Miya.
"In that case, Miya-kun, would you like to join the astrology club?"
"This year, there are only two of us in the club. With you, there are three of us. Three people are just enough to meet the minimum number of members for the club, so the student council won't revoke the club's status."
She pointed to Corona Borealis on the windowsill, then to herself, her tone very sincere.
"I'm the club president, responsible for maintaining the star chart and interpreting the crystal ball. She's the vice president, although she mainly uses the club activity room to observe the students downstairs. In her words, she's studying social behavior, but actually she's just spying on people dating."
"If you join us, the three of us can do a lot. The deep interpretation of the crystal ball requires the magical resonance of at least three people to be activated. Many astrological topics cannot be applied for by one person alone."
Miya looked down at the membership application form and silently began to think.
The form is very simple, with only four columns: name, major, student ID, and reason for application.
She picked up a dip pen, wrote the name "Mi Ye" in the name column, and then filled in the rest of the information.
Fig put the membership application form signed by Miya into the document bag.
She glanced at the sky outside the window. The snow had stopped, and the midday sun shone through the gaps in the curtains, casting a faint golden glow on the star map on the ceiling. It was just lunchtime.
"Want to go to the cafeteria together?"
Fig closed the file bag and put it back in its original place.
"The cafeteria has a special cream of mushroom soup today, but it'll be gone if you go too late."
"Let's go!"
Corona Borealis jumped down from the windowsill, patted her skirt, and resumed her usual lazy tone.
Fig also stood up wrapped in a blanket, took out a parasol from the locker in the corner of the activity room and handed it to the two of them, his movements so natural that it seemed he had been prepared for a third person to join the club today.
The three people walked out of the activity room. Fig locked the door and put the key back in his pocket.
Miya walked at the very back, glancing back at the old wardrobe in the corner as she left the activity room.
When she was signing the document, she had a vague feeling that there was something in that direction, a faint fluctuation of life force, almost imperceptible, as if it had been shielded by some kind of magic but not completely.
She paused for a moment, her tentacles twitched slightly inside her sleeve, but ultimately she felt nothing.
Fig called out to her from ahead, saying that cream of mushroom soup was really popular.
Miya withdrew her gaze, closed the door of the activity room, and quickened her pace to follow.
