Hello, is this a letter addressed to Demon Fortress?

Chapter 369 The Golden Adventurer's Bet

Several groups of gold-level adventurers stood in twos and threes along the second-floor railing.

They were either leaning against pillars or holding wine glasses, their eyes all fixed on the black-haired mage in the center of the first-floor hall.

Some shook their heads, some sneered, and some simply put their feet up on the table, waiting to watch the show.

I've been working in the transportation network for so many years.

Who doesn't know that the delivery of mail in Baiya City is monopolized by "Hyena Fangs"?

Those people have nobles backing them up, and even the city lord gives them some face.

A high-ranking mage from out of town, seven copper coins for a letter?

This is practically suicide.

Soon, heavy footsteps could be heard outside the guild gate.

The crowd was roughly pushed aside, and several adventurers with unfriendly expressions squeezed in.

The leader was a bald, burly man.

His face was covered in thick, fleshy muscles, and he wore a thick plate armor with a snarling hyena head carved on his chest.

He was followed by four men, each burly and with weapons at their waists, their eyes scanning the surroundings like knives.

The people in line retreated to both sides in fear; some were almost pushed over, but dared not utter a sound.

The bald, burly man walked straight up to the black-haired monk and slammed his hand on the table.

With a bang, the paper and pen jumped up.

The golden adventurers on the second floor laughed.

"Here it comes, here it comes."

Someone took out a few gold coins from his pocket and threw them on the table.

"I bet ten seconds that the mage will be thrown out."

"Twenty seconds." Another person threw a few gold coins up as well.

"Thirty seconds." The third person placed a bet, but his tone was uncertain. "He's a mage, after all. What if he runs away fast?"

The person next to him scoffed.

"Run? A mid-level Transcendent against a high-level Upper Transcendent, how do you expect me to run?"

"Too."

The gold coins were piled up in a small heap on the table.

Almost everyone bet between ten and twenty seconds, and no one bet more than a minute.

The difference in rank was obvious, not to mention that the opponent was a fragile mage.

If he were a soldier, he could hold out a few more times.

The female mage swayed her hips as she walked to the table, took out ten gold coins from her bosom, and gently placed them on the table.

She glanced out of the corner of her eye at the bald, burly man who was causing trouble downstairs.

A faint smile appeared at the corner of her lips.

"I bet he'll get beaten to death."

The surrounding gold-level adventurers were stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter.

Some people followed suit and placed bets on "death".

The odds are high, and the probability is indeed not small.

The Hyena Fang gang doesn't have a very good reputation in White Cliff City.

Relying on the backing of nobles, they have done a lot of dirty work over the years.

Two years ago, an adventurer tried to steal a commission from them and had his leg broken in the street.

Last year, a businessman from out of town got into an argument with them and disappeared the next day.

The guild investigated, the city lord investigated, but in the end, nothing came of it.

So this time, there won't be any surprises.

The golden adventurers on the second floor leaned against the railing, waiting to see the bloody scene unfold.

No one intended to go down and remind them.

Some even hoped to escalate the situation further, ideally by punching the guy's head off.

To add some fun to these boring days.

however.

Their expressions quickly froze.

Downstairs, the bald, burly man's expression suddenly changed.

His hand, which was about to slam the table, hovered in mid-air, and the fat on his face twitched slightly.

Fear had surfaced in those eyes that always looked down on people.

He was looking at the black-haired mage.

It's like they're looking at something they shouldn't be looking at.

Then, something unexpected happened.

The bald, burly man withdrew his hand, chuckled sheepishly, and took a step back.

"It's a misunderstanding, all a misunderstanding."

His voice was dry and ingratiating.

"Sir, you're busy, you're busy. We won't bother you any longer."

He turned and left, taking the four people behind him with him.

Their footsteps were so fast, it was as if they were being chased by something.

The novice adventurers and the old folks downstairs looked at each other, completely bewildered as to what had happened.

But since the other person had left, they quickly rejoined the queue.

Soon, the crowd surged forward again.

"Me! Me! Me!"

"Next!"

"Master, let me go first!"

Shouts rose and fell, but everything remained the same.

But the second floor, the exclusive floor for gold adventurers, was eerily quiet at this moment.

Everyone stared in disbelief at the black-haired mage who was still bowing his head to register.

For a long time, no one spoke.

As a veteran member of the Adventurers' Guild.

They knew all too well the reputation and methods of the Hyena Fangs.

Especially their leader, Cohen Bonebreaker.

A ruthless character who has connections in both the legitimate and criminal worlds.

That's why they expressed such bewilderment and silence regarding what had just happened.

The gold coins on the gambling table were ignored.

They all stared intently at the monk who had sent the registration letter.

The tall soldier, who was smoking, took the cigarette out of his mouth and stubbed it out on the railing.

He stared at the black-haired mage and muttered something:

"Just who is this guy?"

He assumed that the Hyena Fangs had recognized his identity and were wary of the power behind him, so they dared not make a move.

But the black-haired monk's attire didn't seem like that of a noble person at all.

The drab robes and ordinary oak staff blended seamlessly into the ranks of novice adventurers.

He wanted to ask the female mage beside him; as a fellow mage, perhaps she could discern something.

But then he turned his head.

The person is gone.

He paused for a moment, then looked around.

The colleague next to him nodded downstairs with his chin.

He looked in that direction and saw that the female mage had already gone downstairs at some point.

He pushed through the crowd and walked towards the center of the hall.

Her eyes held an excitement he had never seen before.

……

The female mage pushed aside the novice adventurers blocking her path and quickened her pace.

Others may not have noticed.

But she saw it.

The Hyena Fang gang didn't recognize this black-haired mage at all.

They didn't recognize each other's identities, nor were they wary of each other's backgrounds.

What made them fearful, hesitant, and flee in disgrace was something else entirely.

Just as Cohen slammed his fist on the table, the pen in front of the black-haired mage...

It took flight.

It wasn't picked up by hand, nor was it lifted by anything, nor was it knocked away by the trembling of the table.

Instead, it just floated in mid-air, suspended in front of the bald, burly man.

It's nothing special for a high-level mage to make a pen float.

But the female mage knew that the Hyena Fangs weren't afraid of this pen.

What they fear is anything that makes the pen float.

Basic wind magic - Levitation.

Anyone in the transportation network knows what levitation means.

A mage who can levitate, even if only at a high level, is someone that all the major transport teams are vying for.

Even if Hyena Fang and his gang are arrogant, they wouldn't dare to challenge the transport team.

Not to mention him, even the nobles and city lords behind him have to be subservient to the transport team.

The female mage's eyes were incredibly bright.

She stared at the black-haired monk who was still registering with his head down, as if he were a piece of shining gold.

A walking, unparalleled beauty.
