After listening to Lin Gui's story, Gro did not respond for a long time.

He stared blankly at Lin Gui, his expression indescribably complex.

It was as if, through him, one was looking at a long-forgotten, similar shadow.

They came in search of Avalon... I haven't heard such a thing in years.

Ever since Hannah took him away from the capital and hid in this desolate place.

He did not readily believe this, but instead questioned it in a deep voice:

How did you know Avalon was here?

Lin Gui was prepared for this problem.

He looked at the other person and said calmly:

"Because my friend knew its location."

Eve and Shea felt a chill run down their spines, thinking that Lin Gui was about to reveal the identity of the saintess.

After all, Eve's identity was too special, and on the other side... there was a demon present.

However, Lin Gui uttered another name that even Xia had never heard before:

"She is the last surviving descendant of the Northern Spirit Fox Clan."

"She told me that Avalon's existence is real."

"She was also the one who told me that Avalon is located at the Wailing Wall..."

He paused, then spoke clearly.

"The most dangerous position."

"I traveled here with my companions, passing through the capital of Carter."

"I overheard that a knight named Rogge is also searching for Avalon."

"And it is highly likely that they have already arrived."

"I learned roughly what he looked like from a nobleman's son named Far."

He looked at Gros, his gaze open and honest.

"When I saw you just now, I wondered if you might be him."

"That's why I had my two companions follow me using rather clumsy concealment magic."

"My original intention was to be discovered by you so we could have a proper talk."

He changed the subject and glanced silently at Hannah in Gro's arms.

The meaning couldn't be clearer.

It's all because of that demon in your arms who started this whole mess.

It has absolutely nothing to do with us.

Shea slightly opened her mouth, leaned close to Eve's ear, and whispered:

"No wonder I didn't notice it for so long..."

"Lin Gui's skin is actually this thick?"

"They're blatantly lying and shifting blame with such self-righteousness."

Eve smiled helplessly and gently pinched Shea's sensitive long ear.

He covered his mouth with his other hand, leaned close to her ear, and whispered even softer:

"Actually, he's just a closet pervert."

"Appears serious on the surface, but is quite extravagant on the inside."

Her eyes curved into a sly smile.

"In my prophecy, the beautiful girl he'll be involved with..."

"That's quite a lot."

Shea's ears twitched; her curiosity was instantly piqued.

She endured the tickling sensation on the tip of her ear and leaned close to Eve's ear:

"Does that include you, Eve?"

Eve laughed like a cat that had just stolen some fish.

"That's right."

She paused, lowering her voice even further, with a mischievous lightness:

"By the way—that 'fox friend' he mentioned earlier..."

"It's a girl, a very pretty girl."

"And, she knew him even before Shia did."

Shia's eyes widened instantly, and she instinctively asked:

"Is she... even prettier than the youthful, beautiful, and captivating eighteen-year-old Shia?"

Eve deliberately dragged out her words, looking Shia up and down.

His gaze swept from her long, silvery-white hair to her emerald-green eyes, and then to her pointed ears, which were slightly tense with nervousness.

"Well..."

She suddenly reached out and gently pinched Xia's cheek.

His smile was full of smug satisfaction at successfully playing a trick on someone.

"you guess?"

"Um, I'm really sorry to interrupt your private conversation."

Lin Gui's voice drifted over, carrying a clear sense of helplessness.

"But can we be serious now?"

His eyelids twitched, and he lowered his voice.

"The other side is a legendary knight, and they're still waiting for a reply."

Upon hearing the reminder, Xia coughed lightly and stood up straight.

Then, suddenly, she put her hands on her hips, glared at Lin Gui with her emerald green eyes, and said in a crisp voice:

"Scumbag!"

Eve turned her head as well, her eyes curving into crescents, and mimicked Shia's tone with a smile:

"What a jerk!"

Lin Gui: "..."

He stared expressionlessly at the two people in front of him, who were singing in unison.

His lips twitched almost imperceptibly.

This is the first time he, who has never been in a relationship, has been called a scumbag by someone.

In the end, he simply turned his gaze away and looked at Gro in the distance, waiting for the other's response.

Gro frowned slightly and asked in a deep voice:

"The Spirit Fox Clan...wasn't it wiped out during the Golden Age?"

Lin Gui nodded, his tone carrying a strange resentment:

"One of them pretended to be dead and escaped."

"In retaliation, they established terrorist organizations everywhere."

When he said this, the displeasure in his eyes was almost overflowing.

The resentment was so real, it didn't seem like an act.

Perhaps it was because of this, or perhaps it was because Lin Gui did not actually kill Hannah.

After a moment of silence, Groh finally spoke:

"I'll believe you for now."

"Heal Hannah for me first."

Lin Gui did not let his guard down.

He manipulated his staff, carrying Eve and Shia slowly closer.

Finally, it stops at a safe distance, enough to cast spells and also allowing for retreat at any time.

Eve leaped lightly off the staff.

She did not use her usual light magic—

Pure-blooded demons are naturally averse to light elements; forcibly using them will only worsen their injuries.

She clasped her hands together loosely in front of her chest, closed her eyes, and focused her mind.

Dark purple magic flowed from her fingertips, swirling and swirling.

The magic wasn't cold or sinister; instead, it possessed a profound gentleness.

"Nourishment from the shadows, the pain fades..."

As she chanted softly, magic enveloped Hannah's wounds like a thin mist.

Those grotesque tears were visibly writhing and closing up.

The rolled-up skin and flesh flattened, and pale pink new flesh grew from the deep wound that exposed the bone.

Even Hannah's pale face gradually regained some color.

The whole process was quiet and efficient.

In just a few dozen breaths, the most serious external injuries had mostly healed.

Only faint scars remain.

Gro stared intently at Eve's technique, a look of astonishment flashing in his eyes.

Such exquisite and stable dark healing techniques...

This is something that no ordinary, extraordinary pastor could accomplish.

Hannah's injuries were healing at a visible speed.

The healing spell Eve used was also a type of shadow healing magic that Gro was quite familiar with.

His tense expression finally relaxed.

He knelt on one knee and carefully lifted Hannah's upper body, letting her rest against his arm.

He gently brushed away the dark red strands of hair on her forehead that were stuck together with sweat and blood.

His movements were so gentle, a stark contrast to the fierce swordsman who had previously cleaved through the ruins.

Hannah groaned unconsciously in her unconscious state, her brows furrowing.

Gro immediately lowered his voice, soothingly speaking in an almost whispered tone:

"It's alright, just bear with it."

The gentleness and heartache in that voice were completely genuine.

Seeing this, Shia couldn't help but lean close to Lin Gui's ear, her eyes shining:

"Is he... really Roger?"

Lin Gui nodded slightly.

Shia immediately followed up with a question, her tone full of gossipy excitement:

"So, that demon I injured was the reason Rogge defected back then?"

"That 'half-demon who can summon demonic energy'?"

Lin Gui: "Hmm, pretty much it."

Shea immediately cupped her hands to her heart, her emerald green eyes sparkling as if stars were twinkling.

She looked at the couple embracing opposite her and sighed softly:

"Escape and companionship that transcend race and political stance..."

"How romantic!"

"You're not bad either."

Eve finished her treatment, walked to Shia's side, and chuckled softly.

"For a casual remark you made—"

"A high-ranking mage will lead you through the rift valley, across the seabed, and into this perilous land."

Her purple eyes curved as she glanced at Lin Gui, who looked extremely uncomfortable beside her.

"He's just a high-level mage."

The encounter between Xia and Lin Gui was pure, untainted by any selfish desires.

Eve's words seemed to be imbued with a unique halo.

Shea looked at Lin Gui with a dazed expression.

Lin Gui felt a tingling sensation in his back.

If it weren't for the system rewards... he probably wouldn't have done so many outrageous things.

He didn't have the kind of romantic sentiment Eve implied... the kind that's all about winning a woman's smile.

Under the increasingly ardent and infatuated gaze of Shia.

Lin Gui coughed dryly, turned his face away, and explained stiffly:

"It was just on the way."

"Even without Shia, I would still come to the Blackwater Corridor to deliver the message."

He tried to make his voice sound businesslike.

"Among the letters sent from New Testament City, there were some addressed to Strong Shield City."
