The fortress gates suddenly opened with a roar.

The knights charged forward first, their silver armor gleaming coldly in the setting sun.

They formed a well-organized formation, with long spears like a forest, and steadily advanced forward.

The mercenary group followed closely behind.

These men, who had tasted blood, wielded various weapons and specifically targeted the frozen demons.

As the blade fell, ice shards mixed with dark red blood splattered everywhere.

Adventurers were scattered throughout the battlefield, carefully clearing away any remaining threats.

The magicians chanted spells, casting stray flames and lightning bolts at the still struggling demon.

The entire valley suddenly became noisy.

The sounds of metal clashing, demonic wails, and incantations mingled together.

Most of the demons frozen in ice have lost their ability to move.

But a few strong individuals are still struggling tenaciously.

They tore through the ice on their bodies, letting out angry roars of defiance.

However, these resistances were quickly suppressed by the well-trained Allied forces.

Freya gently closed the magic book in her hand, the pages making a crisp sound as they closed.

She turned to the knight protecting the nation beside her:

"Lord Rhodes, my work is done."

Rhodes respectfully performed a standard knightly salute.

"Miss Freya, the agreed payment has been transferred to your Alliance Bank account through a third party."

He looked up at the few remaining demons still putting up a stubborn resistance in the distance.

"Thank you again for your assistance. Right now, I need to lead my troops to recapture the first two city walls, so I won't bother you any longer."

After saying this, Rhodes leaped off the city wall.

He landed steadily on the warhorse's back, his movements as fluid as flowing water.

"go ahead!"

Rhodes raised his longsword high, his voice echoing across the entire battlefield.

The surviving knights quickly gathered around him and regrouped.

Mercenaries and adventurers also made way for each other.

This regrouped team pierced the depths of the valley like a sharp sword.

The Twilight Fortress is built against the mountain and has three walls.

The first city wall was breached by demons and is now in ruins.

The second wall blocked most of the demons, but it was also severely damaged as a result.

This last wall was the strongest and the last line of defense.

Freya's legendary magic just now almost completely annihilated the main force of the demons that had broken through to this point.

Most of the remaining demons were frozen in place and posed little threat.

The allied forces are clearing the battlefield in an orderly manner.

Every frozen demon was carefully examined to ensure that none escaped.

The setting sun bathed the entire valley in gold, creating a stunning contrast with the pristine white snow.

This sudden crisis has finally come to an end.

The setting sun cast long shadows of the fortress at dusk.

The cleanup work under the city walls continued, with the sounds of metal clashing and sporadic shouts rising and falling.

Freya descended the steps of the city wall slowly, ice crystals shimmering slightly at the edge of her robes.

The North Wind Caravan's encampment was bustling with activity, like an anthill that had been disturbed.

The barbarian warrior Barton is inspecting the cargo straps one by one.

The rope creaked with every exertion of the strong arms.

"Keep your packs tight!" he roared. "Losing one item means ten days' worth of drinks deducted!"

The orc brothers Grom and Magro patrolled the carriages, one on each side.

Their eyes were sharp, and they would occasionally tap the wheel brackets with the handles of their battle axes.

Scholar Elie squatted beside the supply box, a thick ledger spread out on his lap.

As he counted, he quickly made notes on the parchment.

The forest elf Lysa had already prepared her quiver and was carefully sharpening the arrowheads with a whetstone.

The sound of metal rubbing together is crisp and rhythmic.

Betty was the busiest.

She held the spellbook and paced back and forth in front of the train, muttering incantations.

"The third syllable of the levitation spell should be light, and the fifth syllable should be heavy..."

Fine beads of sweat had formed on her forehead.

Freya walked straight toward Lin Gui, her icy blue eyes filled with apology.

"I'm sorry, the caravan set off early, so I stood you up."

Her gaze swept over Shea and Eve, and she raised an eyebrow slightly.

"I remember you said your companions were an extraordinary ranger and a high-ranking knight?"

Lin Gui bowed calmly.

"My knight friend had an emergency, so this priest friend accompanied me to the Fortress of Strong Shields in her place."

Freya's gaze swept over Shia and Eve, lingering on Eve for a moment longer.

Freya felt the other person's appearance was familiar, but she wasn't sure who it was.

In order not to expose Eve's identity, Lin Gui disguised himself simply.

Her waist-length hair now only reaches her ears.

Her signature purple eyes have turned dark brown.

It was made with a special, expensive potion.

Her delicate features have been subtly enhanced.

The outline appears much softer, losing some of its sanctity and gaining more ordinariness.

"May I ask what your purpose is in going to Stronghold?"

"To deliver a message," Lin Gui answered frankly, "for a dwarf friend in the capital."

He was telling the truth.

Most of the letters destined for Strongshield were from that dwarf half-demon.

"Oh?" Freya's lips curled up slightly. "It seems you cherish this friend."

Lin Gui looked directly into her eyes: "A true friend you can entrust your back to is someone you should cherish."

Freya's smile deepened, but she quickly became serious.

"Since we're going to travel together, there are some rules we must follow."

She took a step forward, radiating a chill.

"First, don't let them out of our sight."

"Second, do not act without my orders."

"If you violate this rule... the consequences will be severe."

"In the worst-case scenario, they'll be abandoned in the wilderness."

This warning carried a chilling undertone.

But Lin Gui simply nodded calmly.

"Understood. Apart from the daily operation of the train, my companion and I will not do anything else."

He even offered his own suggestion: "You can send assassins to monitor us."

Freya was surprised by the composure that came from someone so young.

She scrutinized Lin Gui and suddenly chuckled.

"There's no need for surveillance."

"I don't think you, little mage, are the kind of madman who would drag the whole team down with him."

Shia, who was behind him, had a strange expression after hearing this.

perish together?

The Knights of Lyon thought the same way before.

Just then, Betty finally finished preparing to cast the spell.

The trackless train swayed and floated up, less than half a meter off the ground.

A screeching sound came from the connection between the carriages.

This is in stark contrast to the smooth and elegant way Lin Gui controlled the vehicle before.

The train, like a drunken giant, swayed from side to side as it moved forward.

Betty, sitting at the front of the train, was flushed and gripped her staff tightly with both hands.

Freya looked at the scene and rubbed her temples helplessly.

"It seems you're going to have a tough journey."

She turned to Lin Gui, her tone unusually gentle.

"When we get to the more complex terrain, it'll be your turn to take control."

Under Betty's clumsy control, the train slowly pulled out of the fortress gate.

The North Wind caravan and Freya skillfully jumped into the carriage.

Lin Gui then flew into his carriage with Shia and Eve.

Looking out the rear window of the carriage at the fortress receding into the distance, Lin Gui let out a soft breath.
