Li Weidong gave him a cold look: "Master He, they're your bosses, not mine. What, you want to be the one to stick your neck out for them?"
"If we're going to resort to violence, let's go straight to the police station and reason with them."
At this moment, two people, both around twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, came out of the east wing of the central courtyard.
The man was burly and muscular, with upturned noses, dark circles under his eyes, and a bluish complexion; he was incredibly ugly.
The woman, however, was a completely different type—a large, round face, two very muscular chests that trembled as she walked. She had wide hips, a bottom as big as a millstone, and thick, strong legs; a true, rustic version of a powerful goddess.
But her skin was so smooth it shone, and her eyes were so captivating they seemed to have hooks, stealing the soul from Sha Zhu.
Li Weidong glanced at the two people in the courtyard and recognized them as Jia Dongxu and Qin Huairu.
In this day and age, Qin Huairu's appearance is indeed considered outstanding. But his mind is filled with the spirit of a person from the future, and the moment he saw that round face and thick waist, he felt disgusted. Not to mention that this woman is also a top-notch green tea, with a very high level of skill.
"Pillar, don't be impulsive!"
Yi Zhonghai quickly spoke up to stop him.
Sha Zhu clenched his fist, but his eyes secretly glanced at Qin Huairu, his gaze fixed on her two bulging mounds.
Qin Huairu stood behind Jia Dongxu and gave Sha Zhu a smile. That one smile made Sha Zhu feel like he'd lost a few pounds.
"Lick a dog."
Li Weidong mentally labeled Sha Zhu, too lazy to bother with this group of people, and turned to leave.
"This kid's pretty arrogant."
Jia Dongxu held his back, as if he had just done heavy work.
A blush rose on Qin Huairu's round face, and her eyes sparkled, as if they could be squeezed to release water.
Yi Zhonghai, that old fox, could tell at a glance what the couple had been doing.
"That's right, we'll teach him a lesson tonight."
Sha Zhu said through gritted teeth.
"Zhu Zi, what are you saying?"
Yi Zhonghai put on a stern face, adopting the demeanor of a righteous gentleman, "We need to educate him, help him, and make him understand that neighbors should be united and that one shouldn't be too selfish!"
Li Weidong walked to the edge of the hanging flower gate and heard everything that followed clearly. The contempt he felt was indescribable—what a cunning old fox, spouting platitudes about morality and righteousness as if it were the truth.
Upon entering the front yard, Yan Bugui was watering the flowers. Seeing Li Weidong, he snorted coldly and turned his face away.
Yan Bugui was seething with anger—he had at least taught this kid, and the kid had turned on him. Perfect, he'd teach him a lesson tonight. Just thinking about the big chicken leg and braised eggs made Yan Bugui's mouth water.
Li Weidong glanced at this cunning schemer and ignored him. Yan Bugui was a man with no bottom line; as long as he didn't lose face and could still profit, he would do anything immoral.
After leaving the courtyard house, Li Weidong strolled around the vegetable market. There weren't many good vegetables left at the stalls, except for some spare ribs and pig heads at the butcher's stall.
These days, fatty meat is the most sought-after, lean meat is unwanted, and spare ribs are even less desirable.
Li Weidong didn't buy anything. On his way back, when no one was around, he suddenly found himself holding a pig's head.
This pig's head weighs at least thirty pounds.
The pig in his system's inventory weighed about 300 jin (150 catties), with its head weighing 30 jin (15 kg), which was normal. With a thought, the pig's head was cut off its body.
"Luckily, my strength was increased to 100, otherwise carrying this thing would have been really difficult."
Li Weidong muttered to himself, then noticed that not only was the pig's head there, but its internal organs had also come along.
Li Weidong finally realized that the whole pig the system had given him contained all the edible parts, including the bucket of pig's blood.
He had a pig's head hooked in one hand and a nylon net bag in the other, filled with scallions and garlic, all seasonings for stewing meat.
Yan Bugui was tending to a few potted plants by the screen door. Li Weidong knew perfectly well that the old man was a door god, squatting there watching the people in the courtyard, trying to figure out what he might be plotting.
The Yan family lived in a house with a reverse-facing facade, occupying three entire rooms. Once you passed the screen door on the west side, the whole house belonged to their family.
The screen door is perfectly positioned; no one coming or going in the courtyard can escape Yan Bugui's eyes.
Upon seeing the large pig's head in Li Weidong's hand, Yan Bugui's beady eyes widened in shock.
It lit up immediately.
"Wei Dong, this pig's head must weigh about thirty pounds, right?"
Yan Bugui glanced at it and estimated it with the precision of a scale, "You young man, how could you possibly handle this? Your third aunt's braised pig's head is an absolute gem, let her..."
Before he could finish speaking, Yan Bugui's wife, Auntie San, suddenly appeared. The woman was as thin as lightning, and her movements were as fast as lightning; in the blink of an eye, she was standing in front of Li Weidong.
"Weidong, leave it to me. Auntie will make sure it's braised and delivered to you."
As she spoke, she reached out her hand.
Li Weidong sneered, "Old Yan's family, did I nod before you reached out your hand? And you call yourself 'Third Aunt'? Don't try to act like an elder in front of me!"
The three women were speechless, their mouths agape. Yan Bugui, furious, shouted, "Li Weidong, I was being lenient with you earlier! Now let's have a proper talk. I was, after all, your teacher!"
Li Weidong scoffed, "Teach me? Ha, you taught me back in first grade, and you were just faking it. Never mind that, you were paid tuition and a salary for teaching me, what does it have to do with you?"
"Oh, right, you also tricked me out of a piece of bread and a dime..."
Yan Bugui's beady eyes darted around like a mouse's, and he stammered, "You...you're talking nonsense! How can you slander someone like that for no reason!"
"I slandered you? My mother had a fight with you at your house back then, and someone in the neighborhood definitely remembers it."
Li Weidong said with a smile.
The other three households in the front yard all peeked out to watch the spectacle.
Yan Bugui grabbed his wife, covered their faces, and ran into the house.
"Tch, you think you can outsmart me with a brain like that?"
Li Weidong looked on with disdain.
He carried his things to the central courtyard and immediately spotted Liu Haizhong and Yi Zhonghai whispering to each other in the corridor. Li Weidong acted as if he hadn't seen them and swaggered over.
Liu Haizhong muttered under his breath, "That bastard, squandering his father's hard-earned money like this!"
Yi Zhonghai's usually upright face was now filled with ruthlessness, making him look incredibly frightening.
"No need to wait until tonight, start now."
Liu Haizhong's fleshy face twitched. "I don't believe it. Everyone in the hospital is asking him for money, and he still won't pay?"
"That kid is a piece of trash."
Yan Bugui stepped forward and chimed in, "Hurry up and call a meeting to get him to take out the money. Isn't it easy to come up with a reason? Just say he needs to host a banquet for his father's funeral."
"And the Jia family's house repair expenses also need to be covered by him."
Yi Zhonghai, with a serious expression, said, "He'll have a job soon, what's the point of holding onto so much money?"
"Find a way to get the rest of the money out of him. Young people with too much money are easily led astray."
When Li Weidong opened the door, the house was as hot as a steamer.
Xiao Xi and Lin Yurou were both in the main room, where a reed mat was laid on the floor, and the two of them sat on it, fanning themselves.
Xiao Xi sat cross-legged on the reed mat, her little hands rummaging through the White Rabbit milk candy in front of her.
"One, two, three..."
The little girl muttered to herself, counting very earnestly. She poured all the milk candies from her little bamboo basket onto the mat and counted them over and over, but she just couldn't get a clear number.
"Brother's back! You idiot! You big idiot!"
Xiao Xi jumped up from the mat, her eyes sparkling.
"Brother Dong, this pig's head should cost five yuan, right?"
Lin Yurou frowned. "We're out of food at home. I thought you bought cornmeal..."
Five yuan could buy cornmeal, enough for the three of them to eat for a month.
"Food? I have some, I'll get it out right away."
Li Weidong put down the pig's head, turned around, and went into his room. He took out a bag of rice and a bag of flour from his system space. They were both in white cloth bags, each weighing ten pounds, making them easy to carry.
He took it out and handed it to Lin Yurou: "Xiaorou, put it in the rice jar or flour jar."
Back then, every household had two or three small vats specifically for storing grain.
"Rice and wheat flour? You can't eat that."
Lin Yurou was startled. "We need to add some cornmeal..."
"Don't worry about that, I'll eat whatever I say we'll eat."
Li Weidong waved his hand.
Lin Yurou didn't dare to say anything more and quickly replied, "Okay, okay, I'll put it away right away."
She carried the grain back to her room, where the jar was. In those days, grain was more precious than anything else.
"Xiaoxi, what are you doing?"
Li Weidong walked over with a smile.
Lin Yurou placed the large pig's head in a large wooden basin, and Xiao Xi was poking the pig's eyes with her finger.
"Brother, I want to eat meat."
The little girl looked up at him with pleading eyes.
"Okay, I'll cook for you tonight."
Li Weidong pinched her little cheek.
Just then, a gong sounded from the middle court. The gong sounded like it had a hole in it, the sound was hoarse and unpleasant.
"Meeting in progress! Meeting in progress!"
Xiao Xi called out in a soft, sweet voice, "Brother, take me to the meeting! I want to eat candy in front of Bang Geng and make him jealous!"
"Don't rush, we have to wait a while."
Li Weidong said slowly, "Xiaorou, give me the axe. I'll chop up the pig's head, cook it, and then go over there."
Lin Yurou handed over the axe, her eyes filled with amazement: "Brother Dong, the flour you brought back is so white, so fine and smooth. I've never seen anything so good."
"Make flatbreads for dinner and roll them up with pork head meat."
Li Weidong said with a smile, "Let's cook another pot of rice porridge."
The sound of Xiaoxi slurping her saliva could be heard outside the courtyard.
The pig's head was split in half, and Lin Yurou scooped water from the vat to rinse it. Xiao Xi stood beside her, watching intently, wishing she could pounce on it and take a bite.
Li Weidong poured water into the large iron pot on the earthen stove in the kitchen, added salt and dark soy sauce, and threw in a seasoning packet. He had plenty of the seasoning packets he got from signing in.
"Xiaorou, you stay home and cook pig's head."
Li Weidong patted the dust off his hands. "Once the water boils, add the scallions and ginger. I'm taking Xiaoxi to a meeting."
Lin Yurou opened her mouth as if to say something, but then swallowed it back.
Li Weidong carried Xiao Xi in his arms and a stool in his other hand as he walked to the central courtyard. He saw a dense crowd of people.
The yard was filled with chatter as children ran around playing hide-and-seek.
A small wooden table was placed under the big locust tree. Yi Zhonghai sat in the middle, with Liu Haizhong and Yan Bugui on either side.
There was an empty rattan chair behind Yi Zhonghai.
All three faces were as black as the bottom of a pot, and their eyes were burning with fire.
Li Weidong casually put down the stool and sat down. Xiao Xi leaned against him, looking at the two pieces of milk candy in her hand with a smile, then carefully took a bite of the tomato. A small bite, her face full of satisfaction.
