In the dead of night, the entire Kairong Building was almost completely dark except for a few windows that were lit up.

In the director's office suite on the 22nd floor, Jiang Wan was frowning as she faced the computer and the documents in her hands.

It's not about taking a sip of super-strong black coffee to keep yourself going.

The phone screen was still showing the rant with Wang Yiran from an hour ago.

Fang Tian insisted on taking the traffic accident case, despite its extremely high risk and low rating.

But Lu Jingshi was nowhere to be seen all day. Everyone in the institute knew about her relationship with Lu Jingshi, and no one dared to suppress her.

Jiangwan dared, but unfortunately failed.

The fact that baseless claims were being forced to be based on a reasonable and legal ground was giving her a huge headache.

Suddenly, she remembered that there seemed to be relevant documents on the bookshelf behind Lu Jingshi's desk.

When Lu Jingshi was in school, he loved to hunt for books everywhere. In his small rented room, his books would always take up an entire wall.

Today, the bookshelf is larger and contains more documents.

Jiang Wan looked through the bookshelves row by row and finally found the book she needed in the middle of the second shelf.

Her face lit up with joy, and she pulled it out forcefully.

"Clatter!"

Something fell to the ground along with the book.

She looked down, but suddenly froze.

It was a photo album that showed signs of age, with a cover featuring an intimate photo of a man and a woman in front of a waterfall.

However... the girl's face was viciously smeared black with a marker.

It's an old photo album of her and Lu Jingshi.

Jiang Wan bent down to pick it up and gently turned to the first page...

Some of the photos are intimate selfies of the two of them facing the camera, while others are photos of Lu Jingshi taking without his knowledge.

Looking at these yellowed photos, scenes and memories from the past instantly flooded into Jiang Wan's mind.

Without exception, in every single photo, my face is black.

It seems that Lu Jingshi truly hates her to the core, and he even printed out the photos to "manually block" them.

She gave a wry smile, closed the photo album, and put it back.

Looking up, I noticed a familiar phone box sticking out from the gap where I had just pulled out the book.

Judging from the appearance, it was a couple's phone she and Lu Jingshi had used five years ago.

Like her phone that was almost stolen in the US, this one was filled with memories of the two of them.

I just don't know if those memories still exist today.

She reached for her phone, but someone suddenly grabbed her wrist.

Jiang Wan was startled, her whole body trembled violently, and the book in her hand fell to the ground.

"So that's why you weren't home so late at night, you were thieves here."

A cold, mocking voice rang out right behind me.

Jiang Wan turned her head, and behind her, Lu Jingshi's thin lips curled up, but his eyes were as cold as a winter night.

What are you doing here?

Jiang Wan was surprised. Didn't Fang Tian say that he had something to take care of and that she would temporarily take over for a few days?

"Just passing by."

Lu Jingshi turned his face away, slapped her hand away, and put the photo album and phone back in a different place.

Just passing by?

Jiang Wan pursed her lips.

Whether it's the airport or the train station, they're clearly not on the way to Kairong, so how could you say you're just passing by?

Her gaze fell on Lu Jingshi's hands as he arranged the books, and a thought struck her.

He just said he wouldn't be going home late at night...

Did he see your overtime application? Or did he go to your house and find no one there, so he rushed over because he was worried about you?

She felt a little ashamed, afraid that her guesses were just wishful thinking.

But for some reason, even though she knew it was impossible, a huge sense of unwillingness still drove her to want to find out the truth.

Jiang Wan licked her slightly dry lips, which were dry from nervousness, and spoke softly.

"Lu Jingshi, why...why are you still keeping these things of ours?"

My heart was pounding so hard it was like a drumbeat, growing louder and louder, as if it was about to burst out of my mouth at any moment.

Jiang Wan clenched her fists and stared intently at Lu Jingshi.

Her almond-shaped eyes appeared calm, but a hint of urgency and tension flickered deep within them.

Lu Jingshi's expression remained unchanged. He glanced at her, then turned his head back and answered casually.

"Jiang Wan, you never learn your lesson! What are you so delusional about?"

"I keep these to constantly remind myself of the hurt you caused me, and if we meet again, I will never be lenient with you."

The light in Jiang Wan's eyes dimmed slightly, even though it was an expected answer.

But her heart still felt like it had been gripped and twisted tightly. She bent down to pick up the book from the ground and gave a bitter smile.

"Even if I'm being presumptuous, we're still colleagues. Do you have to talk like that? Can't we just get along peacefully?"

Lu Jingshi's busy hands suddenly stopped, his gaze fixed on her, as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world.

He sneered as he approached step by step, bracing his arms on the bookshelf and encircling Jiang Wan tightly with both arms.

His eyes were cold and devoid of any warmth, and his tone was filled with intense incomprehension and hatred.

"Jiang Wan, you were the one who wanted to break up with me, you were the one who wanted to go abroad to pursue your dreams, and you were the one who told me to let go and not be a burden."

"Now you want me to pretend nothing happened and coexist peacefully with you? Do you even know how to spell 'shameless'?"

Every time he sees these memories from the past, he can't help but think of her resolute decision five years ago.

If it weren't for her initial hesitation, he would have proposed to her after recovering from the surgery.

They will have a happy family and several children as beautiful as her.

But she destroyed all of that for that damn money.

It's laughable that I would dare to expect myself to get along with her peacefully without any reservations!

He was very close, his breath warm against Jiang Wan's face, and her breath was filled with the unique scent of top-grade sandalwood emanating from Lu Jingshi.

She involuntarily shrank her neck, which drew a sneer from Lu Jingshi.

"What? You're shy already? Weren't you trying to seduce me just a few mornings ago? Why are you pretending to be innocent now that you're getting close?"

He moved closer and closer, so close that he could kiss Jiang Wan's lips with just a slight tilt of his head.

Yet, despite such an ambiguous distance, the words spoken felt like falling into an ice cave.

Seduce him?

Jiang Wan was stunned. What she thought was an unresolved old relationship and a loss of control over her emotions was actually seen by him as her one-sided seduction.

Jiang Wan blinked, then pushed him away with all her might.

"Of course I'll avoid him, because Shen Juan is right, I don't like men who are all talk and no action!"

"What did you say?!"

Lu Jingshi's expression suddenly changed, his shoulders heaved violently, and he looked like a powder keg about to explode.

Jiang Wan glared at him, neither of them willing to back down.

"Excuse me, Director Lu, are you... having an argument?"

The sudden sound at the door broke the tense atmosphere inside.

Jiang Wan first withdrew her gaze from the confrontation. At the doorway, Zhao Kai was looking at them with a bewildered expression.

"Attorney Zhao, what brings you up here?"

Zhao Kai's office is on the 16th floor. He only comes up here when there is an important report or when he needs to sign documents.

"I went downstairs to pick up my takeout and saw your light was on, so I came up to check on you."

Zhao Kai smiled gently: "Just ordered it, want to eat together?"

Lu Jingshi wanted to refuse, but Jiang Wan agreed first.

"Okay, let's go to your office. This place doesn't look appetizing."

Watching the two figures disappear through the office door, Lu Jingshi gritted his teeth and slammed his fist on the rosewood bookshelf in front of him.
