The Rise of a Special Forces Soldier Abandoned by a Wealthy Family

Chapter 95 Suspicion of an Insider and Warmth in the Dark

The Presbyterian Hospital seemed to have become a heavily guarded fortress.

Robert Roche heeded Ling Ye's warning and replaced all external security personnel!

He left behind only the core family guard, personally selected by him and with absolutely clean backgrounds.

Furthermore, Ling Ye personally inspected the security setup and added anti-sniper points and signal shielding zones (specific frequency bands).

Inside the ward, Mr. Ronnie lay quietly, but his vital signs were stable, as if he were simply asleep.

The family meeting was urgently convened in a confidential meeting room at the hospital.

The atmosphere was even more tense than before, with a sense of mutual suspicion permeating the air.

Besides Robert and his wife and Anna, several core members of the Rothschild family and group veterans were also present.

Robert relayed Ling Ye's discovery (omitting Ling Ye's specific methods, only stating that it was obtained through special channels) —

The mention of the codenames "Pluto" or "Mr." and the implication of the other party's ability to obtain almost real-time information about the "carrier pigeon"—

There might be someone else's eyes inside.

"Someone from inside?"

Edgar Roth, a white-haired elder and Ronnie's cousin, spoke in a deep voice, his gaze sweeping over everyone present:

"Robert, are you sure? This isn't a conclusion you can draw so easily."

"Uncle Edgar, I don't want to believe it either."

Robert's expression was grave:

"But the truth is, the other side seemed to know everything about us, my father's itinerary, his illness, and even the security personnel rotation!"

"The 'homing pigeon' was immediately silenced after being found. What does this mean?"

"This means someone has been reporting our every move to the mastermind behind the scenes!"

The meeting room erupted in commotion. Everyone exchanged glances, their eyes filled with scrutiny and wariness.

"Could it be... a problem with the security team?" someone suggested.

"The security personnel have all been replaced with the people I trust most, and Mr. Ling has inspected them."

Robert said it with certainty.

"Mr. Ling? Is that the mysterious young man who saved my father?"

Another female executive, Melissa Roche, who heads the family's European business, spoke up, her tone carrying a hint of inquiry and barely perceptible skepticism:

"Who exactly is he? How did he manage to uncover clues that even Interpol struggles to track down? Isn't his appearance too much of a coincidence?"

All eyes immediately focused on Ling Ye, who had been sitting silently in the shadows in the corner.

Ling Ye raised his eyes, his wicked yet icy gaze sweeping over Melissa, sending a chill down her spine.

"Aunt Melissa, Ling Ye is a benefactor to my grandfather and me!"

Anna immediately spoke up in defense, her tone unusually firm:

"If it weren't for him, Grandpa would be gone! I absolutely trust him!"

Robert nodded in agreement:

"Mr. Ling is someone my father absolutely trusts, there's no doubt about that."

"Now is not the time to question our benefactor; instead, we must find a way to uncover the hidden venomous snake!"

Ling Ye then spoke slowly, his voice calm yet carrying an invisible pressure:

"The mole may not have been present; it could simply be that a problem occurred in a link that has access to core information and the opportunity to pass it on."

"Secretaries, assistants, medical staff, and even vulnerabilities in our communication systems."

He paused:

"The other party's codename is 'Pluto,' and they are skilled at using information and psychology."

"Right now, he might be hoping we fall into infighting and mutual distrust."

His words quieted the noisy meeting room a little.

Edgar nodded slowly:

"This young man is right. The greatest failure is to lose one's composure."

Robert picked up the conversation:

"From now on, all information regarding Father's illness and core family matters shall be known only to those present in this room."

"Maintain a consistent external messaging:"

"Father is still in a coma and in critical condition. All instructions are being transmitted one-on-one through an absolutely secure, encrypted channel. We need to lure the enemy out."

The meeting ended in a tense atmosphere.

Everyone left looking rather grim.

Once trust is broken, it is incredibly difficult to repair.

In the stillness of the night, only the soft footsteps of bodyguards patrolling the hospital corridor could be heard.

Anna insisted on staying in the rest area outside the ward and refused to go back to the hotel to rest.

Ling Ye leaned against the opposite wall, closing his eyes to rest, but everyone knew that he never let his guard down.

Anna looked at Ling Ye's somewhat tired profile in the dim light, her heart filled with complex emotions.

There is gratitude, admiration, heartache, and also resentment and unease caused by suspicion within the family.

She walked over gently and handed him a glass of warm water.

Ling Ye opened his eyes and took the water glass: "Thank you."

"I'm the one who should be saying thank you."

Anna sat down beside him, hugging her knees, and said softly:

"Don't take Aunt Melissa's words to heart today. She was just too nervous..."

"It doesn't matter." Ling Ye took a sip of water. "I'm used to it."

His nonchalant attitude only made Anna feel more sorry for him.

What has he gone through to be so indifferent to doubt and malice?

"Ling Ye," Anna hesitated for a moment before asking.

"Why...why are you willing to help us like this? Is it just because of Grandpa's request?"

She mustered her courage, her azure eyes shining brightly in the night, filled with a hint of anticipation.

Ling Ye remained silent for a moment, gazing at the night view outside the window, before finally speaking:

"Old Mr. Ronnie is one of the few people who has ever given me 'normal' care from an elder."

There was a very faint, almost imperceptible fluctuation in his voice.

"And you..."

He turned his head to look at Anna. Her eyes, which always carried an air of evil or coldness, were now reflecting a faint light, and seemed somewhat different.

"You don't need to get involved in these dark things."

He said this at the end, without finishing his sentence.

But Anna's heart skipped a beat.

She saw a tenderness in his eyes that was different from before, and... a hint of protectiveness.

"I'm not afraid of the dark," Anna said softly but firmly, "as long as you're here."

These words were like a pebble thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples in Ling Ye's heart.

Looking into her resolute eyes, he seemed to see the girl from two years ago who, despite her fear, still trusted him amidst the ruins.

He reached out and gently brushed his fingertips across her slightly cold cheek.

This action was gentler and more precise than ever before.

Anna's body trembled slightly, but she did not flinch. Instead, she subconsciously moved a little closer to him.

The two were very close, and a silent, sweet yet tense atmosphere filled the air.

Just then, Lin Que's extremely low, rapid-fire voice suddenly came through Ling Ye's earphones:

"Boss! Emergency!"

"I just intercepted an extremely brief, incredibly encrypted signal originating from inside the hospital, destined for an abandoned cell tower outside the city!"

"The signal content could not be fully deciphered, but several key fragments were captured—"

"...Vital signs stable...Significant signs of awakening...It is recommended to advance...Plan B elimination..."

Ling Ye's eyes instantly turned icy cold!

The tenderness vanished without a trace in an instant!

There really was a mole!

And it's right inside the hospital!

They might even know that the old man is showing signs of waking up, and are sending messages outwards, suggesting the activation of the backup assassination plan!

"Can the location be locked?"

Ling Ye asked in a low voice, while warily scanning his surroundings.

"The signal source is very cunning, using a mobile device with extremely low power; we can only roughly determine... it's in this building!"

"It might have been a brief transmission in a stairwell or some signal dead zone!"

Lin Que's voice was filled with anxiety, "The other party is extremely professional!"

Ling Ye stood up and quickly said to Anna:

"Go back to the ward, lock the door, and don't open it for anyone except Mr. Robert and me. Something's wrong!"

Anna saw his sudden change in expression and knew something was wrong. She nodded immediately and ran back to the ward without hesitation to lock the door.

Ling Ye's figure blended into the darkness like a cheetah, and he began a rapid and silent search inside the hospital.

His gaze swept across every corner, sensing any unusual energy fluctuations and subtle sounds.

The mole just sent the message and certainly hasn't had time to escape yet!

Is this venomous snake finally about to reveal its true colors?

A cold and dangerous smile curled at the corners of Ling Ye's lips.

The hunt begins again.

This time, however, it took place inside the hospital, a sacred place for saving lives.
