My absurd experiences in North America over the years

Chapter 39 How to view unspoken rules

"You're the boss, so whatever you say is right," Li Fu thought to himself, somewhat speechless, but he didn't argue.

The two walked around the small park twice before Gadot finally let him go home.

I thought this situation wouldn't last long.

For the next two weeks, Gadot's life was just as uneventful as that evening's walk, much so that it surprised Li Fu.

He originally thought that as a bodyguard for a rising Hollywood star, he would experience all sorts of crazy parties, frenzied fan chases, and paparazzi relentless pursuit.

But in reality, Gadot's lifestyle is somewhat excessively structured.

Perhaps it was to avoid the recent public controversy, or perhaps they were simply newcomers and lacked resources.

Aside from shooting for a relatively unknown brand, GG, and a fashion show that garnered only moderate attention, she spent most of her time staying in her apartment.

Li Fu's bodyguard was less of a personal protector and more of a high-level gatekeeper.

Under the same roof, the two gradually became familiar with each other through silence and trivial matters.

Li Fu completely relaxed, though he remained outwardly indifferent, while Gadot got used to the sudden presence of this person in her life.

Until the evening of the third Sunday.

Li Fu sat on the sofa in the living room, watching Gadot busy in the kitchen.

This future "Wonder Woman" is looking at a pot of lush green vegetable salad with a copy of "Organic Health Guide" that she found somewhere.

"Is this your dinner for today?" He finally broke the silence.

"This is an antioxidant detox meal," Gadot replied without turning her head, her tone carrying a hint of dedication to her health. "It doesn't look very appetizing, but it's good for the skin and helps maintain body fat percentage."

Li Fu looked at the plate of food that looked like it was being fed to rabbits, and his stomach clenched.

He had been eating Western sandwiches and so-called "health-preserving meals" for more than half a month. As a man with a Chinese stomach, he felt like he was about to ascend to heaven.

"You can keep eating this stuff, but I'm not eating it anymore. I'm going to get something else."

Li Fu stood up and walked straight to the kitchen.

"Are you planning to eat Chinese food, or those unhealthy fried chicken and burgers?" Gadot turned around, crossed her arms, and looked at him.

"Is this all you care about?"

Li Fu didn't waste any words and took over the stove directly.

He opened the refrigerator and quickly scanned the ingredients inside. Apart from milk and eggs, the rest were all kinds of raw vegetables and expensive mineral water.

"Even a skilled cook can't cook without rice," Li Fu frowned.

"What do you mean?" Gadot was taken aback.

Even if Li Fu translated this sentence into English, she might not understand it.

Besides, he was speaking Chinese.

"I'm going to the supermarket, I'll be back in about twenty minutes," Li Fu said, taking off his suit jacket, unbuttoning his cuffs, and rolling up his shirt sleeves to his elbows, revealing his well-defined forearms.

Gadot crossed her arms and looked at him with an expression that said, "Let's see what you can do now."

Soon, Li Fu returned carrying large and small bags.

Curious, Gadot stepped forward and rummaged through the contents: a fresh black-boned chicken, a few iron yam sticks, two packets of goji berries, and a bag of plump red dates.

"What do you need these for?" Gadot frowned slightly.

"You're making a fuss over nothing. I'm going to make yam and black chicken soup, which nourishes yin, beautifies the complexion, replenishes qi, and promotes blood circulation," Li Fu said, skillfully handling the ingredients. "It's so much better than your boiled vegetables."

"Really?" Gadot's eyes lit up. "Then I'll have to try it."

"You can try it, but I'll reimburse you for these," Li Fu said, handing the supermarket receipt to the other party.

"Do you have to be so stingy?" Gadot pouted.

"I'm being lenient by not charging you a chef's fee," Li Fu sneered. "With my skills, if you want to hire a real master chef, it would cost at least a thousand dollars a day."

"Tch, anyone can brag!" Gadot scoffed.

However, she still got reimbursed for the cost of the ingredients.

Soon, the kitchen was filled with a long-lost aroma.

It wasn't the intense flavor of butter-fried steak, but rather a warm, mellow, and savory aroma.

An hour later, two steaming bowls of soup were served on the table.

Gadot took a small bite, and her eyes lit up instantly.

The chicken was stewed until tender and fell off the bone, the yam was soft and fluffy, and the soup was delicious with a hint of the unique sweetness of the herbs. As it slid down your throat, it felt like your whole body was being soothed.

"Perfect," she exclaimed.

This is much better than what she ate at those Michelin-starred restaurants.

She took a big gulp without any regard for her image.

"You're making a fuss over nothing," Li Fu shook his head repeatedly.

Actually, he wasn't too satisfied; the cooking was still a little off.

At this level, most Chinese people could do it by following the video; it's certainly not that good.

However, for first-timers...

This is still very attractive.

The delicious chicken soup is acceptable to both Eastern and Western palates.

"You used to be a chef? You don't look like it!"

Gadot gave Li Fu a very serious look.

This person's appearance and work style make it impossible for them to have been a chef.

"This is basic operation, nothing special," Li Fu said without further explanation.

Traditional Chinese medicine treatment was actually a family tradition of the original owner.

There's an old saying: "The poor study literature, the rich study martial arts." The main reason for this is that practicing martial arts requires conditioning the body, and most families are lucky to have enough to eat, let alone conditioning their bodies.

Their family is a martial arts family, so naturally they have related traditions.

Perhaps it's the warmth of the food that makes people relax, or perhaps Gadot is very interested in this health regimen.

The conversation between the two became more relaxed.

Even the sharp-tongued banter between them has decreased.

"Actually, my time in Los Angeles wasn't as glamorous as it seemed," Gadot said, putting down her spoon and gazing dreamily at the night outside the window.

In the Middle East, she was a beauty pageant winner and an army instructor, while in Los Angeles, she jokingly called herself just a foreign girl trying to gain recognition by speaking English that she wasn't quite used to.

Li Fu listened very attentively, as if trying to discern whether these words were sincere.

He barely interrupted, only occasionally offering a word of encouragement.

This proves that he was listening attentively.

Of course, he was also wondering if those people hadn't set their sights on this future Wonder Woman so early on.

He remembered that it was at least seven or eight years later when Gadot truly took off. In all these years, she has been as pure as a white lotus.

If that's the case, he probably won't be able to find anything out in the next two months.

So what should we do next?

"What are you thinking about?" Gadot waved her hand in front of Li Fu's eyes when she saw him lost in thought.

"It's nothing," Li Fu said calmly.

Then, he suddenly asked, "What's your opinion on the unspoken rules of Hollywood?"

This is a very sensitive issue, and somewhat inappropriate.

However, he really wanted to hear Gadot's opinion.

This is crucial to whether his investigation can continue.
