My absurd experiences in North America over the years
Chapter 28 Kisses, Hugs, and Lifting Each Other High
The Los Angeles night was thick and dark, and the floor-to-ceiling windows of Lucy's apartment reflected the silent silhouettes of the two of them.
The police have left, but that doesn't mean tonight will be peaceful.
Lucy's backup phone, or the encrypted satellite phone, rang for the third time, and she knew it must be her brother, Cole Forrest, calling.
The hostage situation made the news, and her family also had businesses in Los Angeles.
Cole must have known about this.
"Take it!" Li Fu stood beside her and said softly, "There's no way to avoid it. You should let him know you're safe."
Lucy lightly touched the answer button, the call connected, and a familiar voice immediately came from the other end.
It was indeed Cole who called.
Her voice was as steady as ever, "Hey, Cole, don't worry, I'm not injured and I'm safe in the apartment right now."
There was a moment of silence on the other end, followed by the soft sound of papers turning over; her brother was probably looking at some report.
A moment later, Cole spoke again, his voice cold and detached, typical of a politician: "The police report indicates there were five dead at the scene, all with fatal gunshot wounds. Was it your bodyguard who did it?"
He had already investigated Li Fu and knew that Li Fu was an illegal immigrant who had been tricked into coming by a shady agency and most likely had military experience.
However, his character and conduct during this period were impeccable in the investigation report.
That's why he didn't interfere with Lucy's decision to hire him as a bodyguard, and a few days ago he even agreed to help Lucy get legal status for the bodyguard.
In retrospect, the decision we made back then was the right one.
However, he wasn't entirely aware that the bodyguard had "crossed the line."
Lucy's gaze swept over Li Fu's tense profile as he inspected a firearm, his movements so practiced they were breathtaking.
"Yes, he's the one who rescued me," she replied truthfully to Cole with a slight smile.
"That's good, but for your safety, the people I'm sending will be here soon. They can protect you well. Don't go out for the next couple of days, wait for me to come over," Cole said, as he was preparing materials for the handover.
He plans to fly to Los Angeles himself.
Lucy wasn't surprised. She was intelligent, and often simply ignored things she wasn't interested in, while also being somewhat rebellious.
In fact, she had guessed long ago that Cole would send someone to take her away from the West Coast.
"I understand your concerns, brother, but I need some time... to sort things out," Lucy said. She didn't want to go back, even after the kidnapping incident.
Instead of opposing Cole as she had before, she tried to negotiate.
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone, about ten seconds. Lucy could imagine Colmore's fingers, which were caressing the pen, suddenly stopping—a habitual gesture he made when thinking.
Finally, Cole's voice rang out, "Lucy, I know you want freedom and don't want your family to interfere in everything you do. I was eighteen once too, and I understand. But this time it really won't work. If something happens to you, I won't be able to face my father."
He will definitely send someone over to ensure Lucy's safety, and then he will take a private jet to Los Angeles as soon as possible to bring his sister home.
As for his studies, he'll take care of that.
"Okay!" Lucy didn't struggle or argue. After cutting off the call, she threw the phone deep into the drawer.
Li Fu turned around and put the gun into the inner pocket of his trench coat.
He observed the situation outside and found it to be safe for the time being.
"I have to get out of the apartment quickly," Lucy said, grabbing two outfits from the closet and tossing them into her suitcase.
"Why?" Li Fu didn't quite understand.
This apartment is safe; gangsters can't cause trouble in a wealthy area unless they're planning to die together.
"My brother's men are probably on their way," Lucy said, quickly tidying up her suitcase.
We'll only be gone for a day or two at most, so there's no need to bring anything else.
Li Fu instantly understood what she meant.
Lucy didn't want to be kept under tight protection, as that would be tantamount to imprisoning her.
So he tidied things up roughly.
Five minutes later, they drove away from the apartment quietly.
About five minutes after they left, two black SUVs appeared downstairs at the apartment building. Four or five security personnel in the cars communicated with the apartment's security team before entering the building.
Unfortunately, the person they were trying to protect had already left.
On the other side, as the vehicle drove through the night, Li Fu's gaze inadvertently fell on the bandaged wound on Lucy's neck.
"Does it still hurt?"
"It's nothing, the wound is shallow and it's already scabbed over."
Lucy didn't care at all; all she wanted now was to go to a beach hotel on California's South Coast.
Before Cole found her, she spent an unforgettable time with Li Fu.
Just as Li Fu was about to reply, Lucy suddenly reached out and pressed her hand against his hesitant lips. The warmth of her fingertips startled him. "Li, forget about our identities for the next couple of days, forget Winslop and my brother, forget everything from the outside world, okay?"
Li Fu nodded slightly, appearing relaxed.
The wind howled outside the car window, but his heart was not as calm as it appeared.
The Forrest family has ties to both politics and business.
If we were to draw a parallel between Lucy's uncle and someone in China, he would at least be a ministerial-level leader. However, under an electoral system, he might not be the Senate Majority Leader again after his four-year term.
But his political influence is far-reaching, and four years is enough time for him to pave many paths.
My father is a board member of the largest private hospital in the United States and also holds a public office in the state government.
It's no exaggeration to call it a grand mansion.
It's not hard to guess how they'll treat him, Lucy's boyfriend.
This is probably the classic "the princess has had her fill of fun and it's time to go home" scenario, and Lucy herself probably knew this ending.
As for resistance?
Stop joking, there are no examples like this in real-life scripts.
Of course, he didn't intend to force it.
Just go with the flow.
Those who are meant to leave will eventually leave.
"What are you thinking about?" Lucy reached out and grabbed his fingers.
"I was thinking about kissing, hugging, and lifting you up high," Li Fu replied casually with a smile.
Of course, this joke doesn't exist in an English context.
But he explained it to Lucy.
Especially when they use this posture.
"All you ever think about is wicked thoughts," Lucy snorted, her face immediately turning red.
That pose... was exactly what she liked.
"So, do you like it or not?" Li Fu asked with a mischievous grin.
The two occasionally added some romance to the process.
However, these are rare cases.
Moreover, those times were mostly when the atmosphere was right, when the peak was approaching... and it really did have a remarkable effect.
Being in the car today doesn't seem quite right.
To everyone's surprise, Lucy's answer was even more explicit.
"If you like it, you'd better do it now," she said, gazing at Li Fu with affection.
"No, we're on our way..."
These words left Li Fu speechless.
They had just arrived in the suburbs, two kilometers away from the beach hotel.
"Wouldn't it be better to be in the middle of nowhere?"
Lucy reached out her little hand and gently stroked his abs.
Compared to Li Fu's complicated feelings, hers were much simpler.
These one or two days must be her and Li Fu's private time, which no one can take away.
After spending these days together, her initial intention of having fun had quietly changed.
The fake boyfriend turned into a real boyfriend.
She wanted to experience everything that she hadn't experienced with Li Fu.
Even if I leave Los Angeles in the future, I probably won't have any regrets.
So when Li Fu mentioned kisses, hugs, and lifting her up high, those blissful moments immediately flooded his mind.
Why not seize the day and enjoy life to the fullest?
Li Fu felt the soft touch of Lucy's small hands. If he could tolerate that, then when she came close and blew air into his ear, his blood rushed to his head.
If it weren't for the constraints of clothing, a certain part of me might be bursting with rage.
He slammed on the brakes. He had come up via a small path, and it was pitch black all around. He could only faintly hear the sound of distant waves.
This environment is a perfect fit for what they need to do.
