My absurd experiences in North America over the years
Chapter 142 The Storm Is Brewing
Three days later, at 3 PM, in New York.
Inside the trading floor of Goldman Sachs headquarters, Joshua Kushner sat at his workstation with three screens lit up in front of him: a Bloomberg terminal on the left, real-time data from the trading platform in the middle, and an encrypted email interface on the right.
His fingers hovered over the keyboard for a moment before he quickly typed a few lines of commands, bringing up the large transactions in the foreign exchange market over the past week.
A column of data pops up on the screen.
He scanned through the transactions one by one and found that EUR/USD had seen regular buying activity during several Asian trading sessions, with each transaction occurring every three to five minutes and the scale being quite stable, as if it were being manually manipulated by someone.
The entry patterns for AUD/USD are almost identical, with the same time window, the same rhythm, and the same order splitting method.
"This must be the work of Forrest Capital, right?" Joshua said in a low voice, as if confirming his own statement.
He obviously couldn't see the account name or specific details; he could only guess based on the vague pace of position building.
Distributing orders into small ones, evenly absorbing liquidity, avoiding chasing highs and selling lows—it's like someone extremely familiar with market behavior executing a predetermined script.
On Wall Street, there are virtually no individuals or institutions willing to do this right now. Perhaps only that up-and-coming trader from last year who dared to leverage 400 times and heavily bet on a potential collapse of the euro against the dollar.
Sitting next to Joshua was Mark, a senior trader at Goldman Sachs. He had worked in investment banking for over twenty years, experiencing the dot-com bubble at the beginning of the century and the current subprime crisis, and had an almost instinctive sense for the market.
He glanced at Joshua's screen and shook his head: "It's no use checking. The liquidity in the foreign exchange market is too great, exceeding 4 trillion. You simply can't find his specific positions. Even if you know he's going long on the euro, you can't force him to liquidate his position by suppressing the price."
"But just watching him make so much money?" Joshua felt extremely uncomfortable.
Mark sighed. "Josh, we lose every trade every year, we just need to win them back next time."
Joshua remained silent for a few seconds without replying.
He continued to pull up the US stock data, trying to see if Li Fu had given anything away with the stocks, but the order books for Apple and Nvidia were normal, with no unusual large orders piling up, let alone any attempt to snipe them.
"He's spreading his investments very evenly," Joshua said, leaning back in his chair. "Foreign exchange, US stocks, gold... it seems like he's laying out his strategy in every area, but you can't find a single clue."
"So, it's going to be very difficult for us to take him down," Mark shrugged. "Even if the higher-ups approve it, the funding is limited. He's like a wall; unless he makes a huge mistake, leaving a hidden danger in the foundation, and we happen to catch him in the act..."
But how is that possible?
Even if there were truly irreparable mistakes, JPMorgan Chase would never allow the outside world to know its trading records.
Joshua stared at the screen for a long time before finally closing the laptop.
At 7 p.m. that evening, the Kushner family was at a ranch in Florem Park, New Jersey.
Several home-style dishes were laid out on the long table in the restaurant, the lighting was soft, and outside the window were a neatly trimmed lawn and a darkening skyline in the distance.
Charles Kushner Sr. sat at the head of the table, wearing a dark gray cardigan, looking relaxed as if he were enjoying an ordinary weekend dinner.
But the topics discussed at the table were anything but ordinary.
Joshua sat opposite his father and gave a brief report on his findings in the trading hall that afternoon.
He and his colleagues tried to find loopholes in the operation of Li Fu Fund and then launch a precise attack, but the opponent's configuration and JPMorgan Chase's trading channels made all the attack attempts futile.
In addition, according to his understanding, Goldman Sachs is very wary of Li Fu. They have always regarded themselves as the most professional investment bank, and mergers and acquisitions have always been their strength.
However, Li Fu easily made them taste defeat.
They cannot stand idly by and watch Li Fu continue to dominate the financial markets with JPMorgan Chase, as this would disrupt the existing order and turn Goldman Sachs into a loser that is not even as good as a single department of JPMorgan Chase.
Goldman Sachs executives attempted to use their networks to lobby the banking committee and create trouble for them.
After listening, Kushner didn't respond immediately. He picked up his fork, cut a piece of steak, put it in his mouth, chewed slowly, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and then spoke, "What are you trying to say?"
"This person is almost flawless in the market. His strategy, team, and the secrecy of his trading channels are all perfect," Joshua sighed. "The only way to defeat him is to start from somewhere else."
He always considered his defeat to Li Fu to be a great humiliation.
The terms he offered were clearly more favorable, and the acquisition of Huawei's terminal business, which was originally a sure thing, should have been a springboard for his meteoric rise on Wall Street.
The result was a complete defeat, which cast a shadow over his promising future.
Old Kushner remained calm, took a sip of his drink, and asked, "So, what are you planning to do?"
"I don't have a solution for now, but I'm thinking, Father, perhaps you should consider other options? Or maybe you could cooperate with the senior management of our group?"
Joshua believes that Kushner had reason to hate Li Fu.
Because that young man personally severed the channel through which the Kushner and CP families could band together for mutual support during the financial crisis.
Kushner put down his glass, paused for a few seconds, as if organizing his thoughts, or perhaps testing Joshua's patience. "You don't need to beat him in the market. He's truly a leader in that field, probably without rivals. But have you ever wondered why he chose these investment areas?"
Joshua frowned slightly. "What do you mean?"
"He's invested so much money in New York real estate and tech companies, and he's so closely tied to the Forrest family. He couldn't possibly be unaware that his Chinese identity would become increasingly prominent in Washington..."
As a seasoned veteran, Kushner saw through part of Li Fu's motives: "All his plans are about building a wall for himself, using that wall to protect himself, and so far, it seems that no one can touch him."
Joshua was stunned. Weren't all these actions just for making money?
Wait... who's going to touch him?
The Sin Lord gang wouldn't dare, would they?
"Dad, is there some inside information that I don't know about?" He immediately perked up.
Kushner looked at Joshua and said, "You're still too young. You don't understand that everything has to give way to politics. A big storm is bound to come within a year at most."
"Storm?" Joshua certainly didn't understand. He was just a young man who had only recently graduated and didn't have much work experience, let alone politics.
"I learned through some channels about the new presidential cabinet's governing direction. They are very worried about the world situation," Kushner said calmly, as if he were talking about something he had studied for a long time. "A major Eastern power is rising rapidly, and the financial crisis has had a much greater impact on us than on the other side..."
He cited many examples of how capital from the East was rapidly expanding while Wall Street was in dire straits.
The global economic situation is turbulent, and they do have a backlog of goods, but they can perfectly absorb it through internal dumping.
A trading behemoth is quietly taking shape.
Those in Washington believe this is more dangerous than the Little Life movement of the 1990s; they think they can break Little Life's backbone and force it to its knees.
However, they were helpless against the great Eastern power.
Financial magnates like Soros often provide political and financial services to major powers. They can exploit the dollar's hegemony to bleed the world dry, but they suffered a crushing defeat in Hong Kong more than a decade ago.
All of this has made the new president's cabinet extremely uneasy.
Kushner looked Joshua in the eye and said, "You're trying to beat Michael Jordan in basketball by going up against Li Fu in the market right now. That's impossible. You should wait until the winds in Washington completely change. Only then will our attack be effective."
As a seasoned political broker, he was far more well-informed than his son.
"But you also said that he built a wall!" Joshua vaguely understood his father's thoughts.
"Indeed, he is smart enough, and even as CP claims, he can foresee the future. In order to deal with danger, he built a wall to protect himself," Kushner praised Li Fu without reservation.
"Then what should we do?" Joshua asked anxiously.
The Forrest family, the CP family, news moguls, and even the mayor of New York City are all in his camp.
"The strength of a wall doesn't depend on itself," old Kushner shook his head, emphasizing his words, "but on the size of the storm."
He had a premonition, or rather, the snippets of information revealed by those high-ranking officials indicated that the intensity of this confrontation was unprecedented, and that the presidential cabinet might even adjust the country's strategic layout.
Some terms have been repeatedly mentioned – the return to Asia-Pacific.
Li Fu's identity would be extremely sensitive at that time. His deep involvement in the political and business landscape would make him a perfect target.
Joshua understood his father's meaning. He remained silent for a long time, looking out the window at the lawn. Night had completely fallen, and only the distant streetlights cast a few lonely halos around the edge of the lawn.
He was trying to process the weight of his father's words, "When will that day come, and how long will it take? Two years or three years?"
"It won't take that long," Kushner shook his head. "People in Washington are already gathering material on things like the trade deficit, intellectual property, exchange rates, and so on..."
Once these materials are formed, they become weapons.
By then, Li Fu's identity would inevitably be suspected, and all it would take was a small pretext to make an example of him.
Joshua nodded slowly, agreeing with his father's reasoning.
He looked out the window at the New Jersey nightscape, and Li Fu's face appeared in his mind. That person was always so calm and so confident, as if he had planned every step in advance.
He initially thought it was confidence, but now he thinks it might be closer to precognition.
"Then I'll wait patiently," he gritted his teeth, "and see how long his wall can hold."
Kushner Sr. wiped his hands with a napkin, as if to say, "That's all for today." He stood up and patted his son on the shoulder as he passed by. "You have to be patient. He's an impenetrable wall on Wall Street, but he'll have a hard time stopping the storms in Washington."
Joshua remained seated, listening to his father's footsteps disappear at the end of the corridor, then raised his glass and drank deeply.
His father was indeed not idle; he was plotting the kind of operation that would completely pin the enemy down in that storm, leaving no room for retreat.
