My absurd experiences in North America over the years
Chapter 118 Steady Progress
Time is like the Hudson River in New York, seemingly calm on the surface but turbulent beneath.
Spring arrived silently in 2009.
The snow in New York has mostly melted, and tender green shoots are sprouting on the lawns of Central Park. One by one, the tower cranes that had been shut down during the financial crisis have been erected again, slowly turning under the gray-blue sky.
The Trump Organization's billion-dollar spending spree in New York to stimulate a wave of reopening is like a pebble thrown into a stagnant pond, with ripples spreading outwards.
The construction site in eastern Queens was one of the first to resume work, and now the outlines of the buildings can be seen rising from the ground.
The roar of concrete pump trucks never stopped from morning till night, and the workers wearing safety helmets moved back and forth on the scaffolding, looking like a group of spiders weaving webs from a distance.
The Brooklyn pier project is also accelerating, with two apartment buildings already topped out, their glass curtain walls reflecting a cool white light in the sunlight.
The logistics center project in the Bronx was completed three weeks ahead of schedule.
Ivanka occasionally visits construction sites, but her car is usually parked in the security area at the site entrance, where project managers, safety supervisors, construction team leaders, and others gather to report on their work.
Today she was wearing a dark gray trench coat and holding a progress chart. When she came out of the construction site, there was a layer of dust on her trench coat. She stopped by the car door, patted the hem of her coat, and did so cleanly and neatly.
Li Fu arrived unnoticed and handed her a bottle of water.
"What brings you here?" Ivanka took the water bottle, unscrewed the cap, and took a few sips.
"Let's check on the progress," Li Fu said, leaning against the car door. "Your father said the city hall is pressing for it."
"It's not that we're in a rush, it's that Bloomberg wants to publicize his achievements as soon as possible," Ivanka replied with a smile. "But it's okay, we're two weeks ahead of schedule."
She bent down and sat in the back seat, while Li Fu sat on the other side.
They were very familiar with each other, like old friends who had known each other for many years.
"Next time you come to the construction site, call ahead."
Ivanka reached out and brushed the dry grass that had somehow fallen into Li Fu's hair. The construction site was windy, and sometimes coming here was even more "disheveled" than working on a farm.
This was originally a very normal thing to do, but their interaction was too natural, and it seemed to go beyond friendship but not quite lovers.
The car entered the main road and merged into the traffic flow in Manhattan.
"I might have to go back to Nashville for a while," Li Fu said, turning to Ivanka. "I'll leave things here to you for the next few days."
Frankly speaking, this is the stage where the investment projects are progressing rapidly, and it is also the busiest time.
The Trump Organization's reopening efforts have created more than just jobs for construction workers; building material suppliers, logistics companies, food vendors, and even small shops near construction sites have all come back to life.
Behind every construction site lies an industrial chain, and behind every industrial chain lies the livelihood of tens of thousands of families.
Bloomberg needs impressive unemployment figures and tangible achievements; Trump needs real profits; and Li Fu needs to establish a foothold in the city.
The three of them each got what they needed, but none of them could live without the others.
His return to Nashville at this time is clearly not a good idea.
"What happened?" Ivanka looked at Li Fu with some concern, which was a natural thought for her.
The man in front of her had a profile that resembled a young Keanu Reeves; he was undeniably handsome. He had caught her eye at the banquet when they first met.
And this is just one of his strengths.
