Don't go to the moon, there are gods on the far side of the moon.
Chapter 43, Volume 1: Letter from the Far Side of the Moon - Repair Shop for the Broken Pillar
When the words "succession assessment" silently appeared, the main engine of the landing ship immediately shut down.
It's not a malfunction.
It was taken over.
The ship's hull, like a piece of iron hooked by a fishhook, slid towards the maintenance port on the outer edge of the Buzhou Mountain wreckage. Xu Wangshu successively disconnected three sets of autopilot circuits, to no avail. After the circuits were disconnected, thin silver threads floated in the air and reconnected to form another ancient loop.
"It's using the boat as a key." Xu Wangshu gritted his teeth. "The maintenance port is identifying the echoes of Lin Wangchuan's family and Lin Jibai."
Lin Xiaoman hugged her employee badge tightly: "But my dad is already..."
"The old system didn't care about life or death; it only recognized the permission chain."
Lu Chengong stared intently at the approaching broken pillar. The maintenance port resembled a vertical eye carved into the mountainside, its edges etched with dense maintenance numbers. On the outermost ring, a line of modern paint, blurred by fine white dust, was still legible: Buzhou Mountain Project, Extraterrestrial Structure Survey Team Seven.
When Wen Zhaolin saw those words, a look of pain flashed across his face.
Ten years ago, he and Lin Wangchuan both came here.
The landing ship was towed into the maintenance hatch, and outside was an impenetrable darkness. The next second, gravity appeared.
Everyone fell at the same time.
Lin Xiaoman bumped her head on the edge of the seat, groaning in pain. Xu Wangshu rushed over to check on her immediately, only breathing a sigh of relief after confirming there were no broken bones. Lu Chenggong, on the other hand, looked towards the cabin door.
There was a sloping metal corridor, its walls half made of modern alloy and half of an ancient material that resembled both jade and bone. The LED strip lights had long been turned off, and only a hand-shaped marker lit up every few dozen meters on the ground.
Lin Xiaoman stared blankly at the markings: "They are Dad's handprints."
Xu Wangshu used a lunar map scan, which resulted in a large number of fracture logs.
[Repairman 07: Confirmed today that the main wreckage cavity is still responding. Cannot be awakened.]
[Repairman 07: I oppose Wen Zhaolin's insistence on submitting a restart proposal.]
[Repairman 07: If I disappear, do not allow family members to access the succession assessment.]
After the last line, there was a large area of blood-red garbled text.
Obstacles followed immediately. Footsteps echoed from the depths of the corridor, orderly and heavy, unlike those of a human. Three maintenance puppets emerged from the impenetrable darkness, old Heavenly Court badges embedded in their chests, and carrying cutters and stitching guns in their hands.
[Succession assessment item 1: Repairing damaged sections.]
If materials are insufficient, companions may be used.
Lin Xiaoman's face turned pale.
Xu Wangshu said coldly, "It wants us to offer sacrifices."
The puppet lunged forward.
Lu Chen drew his bow with one hand, and two points of light transformed into thin arrows, precisely piercing the knee joint of the first puppet. But the wound on his right arm immediately reopened, and drops of blood splattered to the ground under the force of gravity. The second puppet bypassed him, its cutter heading straight for Lin Xiaoman.
Xu Wangshu threw out the Moon Map, which transformed into a semi-transparent barrier, but was cracked by the cutter.
Just as the third puppet approached Wen Zhaolin, Wen Zhaolin did not dodge. He stared intently at the employee badge on the puppet's chest, and suddenly reached out and pressed it.
"Tianheng has joint inspection authority to retrieve the original assessment agreement."
The puppet paused for a moment.
The original terms appeared on the screen. The so-called use of companions did not necessarily require sacrifice, but rather was an extreme solution for the old Heavenly Court's automatic repair. The original maintenance logic also included a clause: maintaining the stability of the cracks through incomplete repairs.
The plan left behind by Lin Wangchuan.
Xu Wangshu's eyes lit up: "No need to repair it completely. Just keep the damaged section from collapsing."
She looked at Lin Xiaoman: "Listen to the echo of your brother's lighthouse, and find the crack."
Lin Xiaoman closed her eyes, her tears still wet, but forced herself to calm down. After a moment, she pointed to an inconspicuous dark line on the wall: "It hurts there."
Xu Wangshu rushed over, removed the spare conductive cable from the landing ship, and, following the method described in Lin Wangchuan's diary, short-circuited both sides of the hidden wire, but deliberately left a one-millimeter break.
The repair bot restarted, but the repair was deemed incomplete.
Lu Chengong roared and blocked them.
Xu Wangshu looked up: "Lin Jibai! If you can hear me, tell it what 'cultivation' means!"
The lighthouse's echo passed through the broken pillar repair opening, bringing with it a familiar low chuckle.
[Lesson 1: Repairing Machines]
[If it can run, don't dismantle it.]
The one-millimeter fracture silently glowed. The broken section did not close, but it stabilized. The succession assessment system froze for a full three seconds before finally displaying its judgment.
Incomplete patch: Passed.
The three puppets stopped, and a black storage chip popped out from the chest of one of them.
Before Xu Wangshu retrieved the chip, a brief struggle ensued. Instead of a chip, a tangled mass of silver threads emerged from the third puppet's chest. These threads attempted to burrow into Lin Xiaoman's wrist, using her key to directly inscribe "Succession Assessment Passed" into her bloodline. Lin Xiaoman's face turned deathly pale with pain, but she didn't instinctively back down. Instead, mimicking her brother's old method of fixing electrical wires, she used her father's work badge to press down on the wire's connector, shouting, "I disagree!"
These three words froze the silver thread. Xu Wangshu seized the opportunity to sever the connection with the Moon Diagram, and Lu Chen's arrow pinned the puppet's shoulder axis. When the chip landed, everyone realized that the succession assessment didn't really want the repair results, but rather to get the Lin family used to having the system decide for them. Lin Xiaoman gasped for breath, clutching her employee badge even tighter: "My brother won't agree, and neither will I." The lighthouse echoed softly, as if saying, "Well done."
Xu Wangshu took out the chip, and after reading the lunar map, everyone heard Lin Wangchuan's recording from ten years ago.
"Ji Bai, if you ever come here, remember, the remains of Buzhou Mountain are not on the surface of the moon."
"The far side of the moon is merely the point where it falls, dragging its weightless sensation."
"The true main pillar was inserted into the shadow of the lunar core."
The impenetrable darkness at the end of the corridor silently lit up.
A complete cross-sectional view of the wreckage appeared on the wall.
They saw that the broken pillar was not lying horizontally on the far side of the moon, but rather pierced through the lunar crust, like a broken needle piercing deep into the far side of the moon.
At the very bottom of the cross-sectional view, there is a red dot that is slowly jumping.
Note: Buzhou Mountain Heart Chamber.
Status: Still awaiting a successor.
The gravity at the maintenance entrance was unstable. Every ten steps or so, the weight of everyone's bodies would fluctuate, as if the ruins of Buzhou Mountain were testing whether these intruders were up to standard. During one sudden increase in gravity, Lin Xiaoman almost knelt down, and Wen Zhaolin reached out to support her. She immediately shook him off, her eyes like knives.
Wen Zhaolin withdrew his hand without saying anything.
Xu Wangshu noticed many scraped-off records on the wall. She scanned them with the sidelight of a lunar map and managed to partially reconstruct the writing. The records came from different restorers who had fiercely debated the complete restoration. Some believed that the fracture would cause the far side of the moon to continue to pollute the human world, while others believed that a complete restoration would allow the heavens to return. Still others proposed a third path: establishing multi-point observation points and letting the human world decide the scale of each restoration.
The signature on the third path was marked with a red judgment by the old Heavenly Court: Inefficient.
Xu Wangshu sneered: "What it fears most is not mistakes, but discussion."
Lin Xiaoman asked, "Does discussion count as a threat?"
"For a system that only wants one answer, any second voice is a threat."
Lu Chengong memorized those words. He wasn't good at writing records, so he used a fragment of the broken bow to carve a short mark on the inside of his arm guard. The Houyi Sequence had taught him to obey the target and eliminate deviations, but today he wanted to remember the deviations. Because if an arrow always flies only on command, it might not hit the enemy.
When the maintenance hatch closed, the landing ship could no longer retreat the way it had come. Xu Wangshu looked at the unfamiliar corridor outside the hatch and suddenly understood why Lin Wangchuan had hidden the clues so deeply. It wasn't to test anyone's courage, but to filter out those who only wanted the coordinates, the permissions, and the mythical legacy. Those who could truly reach this point had to first be forced to see the forest of steles, to acknowledge that countless people, eliminated by the system, were buried beneath the wreckage. Otherwise, the so-called successor would only become the next Wen Zhaolin.
