When countless ambushers burst out from both flanks, Major Iguchi knew his end was near, but he was not afraid at all.

Major Iguchi received militaristic education from the Army Elementary School, then went to the Army Officer School, and after graduation rose from second lieutenant to major. His mind was filled with thoughts of expanding the empire's territory. Even in death, he would go to the Yasukuni Shrine to be worshipped by the people.

Since there was no more activity, he raised his saber and led the charge towards the soldiers of the 646th Regiment, and the other Japanese soldiers followed suit and started making a ruckus.

Since the First Sino-Japanese War, the Japanese have no longer shown the same awe and respect for their suzerain state when facing China.

Most of the soldiers of the 646th Regiment came from the original Training Corps, and some were reinforcements of defeated soldiers. After joining the guerrilla column system, influenced by Zhao Yunwen, they never captured prisoners and tried their best not to fight the Japanese with bayonets.

Major Iguchi started learning swordsmanship at the age of seven. He was so strong that several strong men couldn't get close to him. He wanted to take a few people down with him before he died.

The battalion commander didn't give the major a fair chance to fight, and instead fired a long burst from his submachine gun, turning Major Iguchi into a sieve.

"Baka! You're not a real samurai!"

Major Iguchi collapsed to the ground, filled with resentment, ending his sinful life.

The soldiers of the 646th Regiment used assault rifles to clear the way and grenades to break down doors. The Japanese soldiers, who tried to turn the tide by fighting with bayonets, were slaughtered and could not even get close.

The Japanese soldiers guarding the area consisted of only two infantry companies, totaling over 300 men. Nearly half of them were killed or wounded in the first round of fire, and the remaining soldiers were in complete disarray, fighting their own battles.

More than two thousand soldiers, ten times the number of the Japanese troops, ambushed the enemy from all directions, clearing a path with continuous fire and coordinating their attacks to achieve a one-sided massacre.

This was not a fair fight. The Japanese soldiers who were surrounded and killed were extremely frustrated, but they had no choice but to accept it. In the end, they were all wiped out by the soldiers of the 646th Regiment.

The battle lasted only half an hour, and the victory was won very easily. Everyone cheered in unison.

Colonel Sui Youlan, having thoroughly enjoyed himself, loudly issued the order:

"Brothers, quickly clean up the battlefield! And let me emphasize again, the 107th Division takes no prisoners!"

"Third Battalion Commander, you are responsible for guarding the flanks to prevent the Japanese from getting past."

Having just successfully launched a surprise attack, Sui Youlan naturally wouldn't give the Japanese any chance; better safe than sorry.

Seeing that the troops had finished their work, Qiu Fengzi was in high spirits and led his brigade staff into the valley. Sui Youlan greeted them cheerfully, saying with a showy air:

"Commander, the brothers didn't let you down. They wiped out all the Japanese soldiers inside the encirclement. This ambush wasn't that difficult!"

Naturally, Qiu the Madman couldn't dampen Commander Sui's enthusiasm, and praised him highly:

"Not bad, we've shown the might of our 323rd Brigade, but we can't be complacent. We need to do a thorough post-battle analysis."

At the 323rd Brigade headquarters, Zhao Yunwen, as usual, was humiliated by Chief of Staff Xie. Just as he was plotting how to back out, the communications officer strode in to report:

"Commander, Brigade Commander Qiu has reported a victory!"

Zhao Yunwen excitedly got up and took the telegram, then casually scrambled the chess pieces, which infuriated Lao Xie, who glared at him.

Zhao Yunwen's mind was no longer on the chessboard, and he laughed loudly:

"Good, Qiu Fengzi and the 646th Regiment did a great job. They ambushed the Japanese supply train with a regiment, destroyed two tanks and 11 cars, captured 73 cars, and killed more than 400 Japanese soldiers, including more than 100 drivers. They wiped out at least one Japanese motor transport company."

They captured four Type 4 infantry guns, over 1000 rifles, and dozens of truckloads of ammunition and supplies, making a fortune!

After hearing this, everyone cheered in unison. This kind of ambush was the most cost-effective, with few casualties, brilliant results, and plenty of spoils. Everyone was happy.

Xie Polu leaned closer and said:

"Commander, the Japanese have suffered a huge loss and they certainly won't let this go easily. They might even send out a large force to search the surrounding area. What should we do next?"

Zhao Yunwen said confidently:

"Let them come. We'll deal with whatever comes our way. The Setani Detachment can't spare any troops; all their attention is focused on the Taierzhuang area right now."

The only troops that can be dispatched are the main force of the 10th Division in western Shandong, but western Shandong is being held back by our Third Army Group, so the maximum number of battalions that can be dispatched is four.

I actually hope they come; they can wipe out more Japanese soldiers.

Xie Polu said worriedly:

"Four battalions are no ordinary force. The attack on Taierzhuang involved only three battalions. The 27th and 31st Divisions fought with almost all their might, suffering heavy casualties. The Japanese broke into the city several times. Although we have two regiments, we still need to be cautious."

Zhao Yunwen knew that it wasn't that Lao Xie was afraid of the Japanese, but rather that as the chief of staff, he needed to consider the unfavorable aspects, especially when the commander was acting impulsively, and knew how to cool things down.

"Old Xie, you're right. I didn't mean to underestimate the four Japanese battalions, but we won't fight them head-on. We'll divide and conquer them!"

Chief of Staff Xie's eyes lit up, and he said with anticipation:

"Does the commander already have a plan to defeat the enemy?"

Old Xie knew Zhao Yunwen too well. He could tell that Zhao Yunwen could only see one move ahead when playing chess, but when it came to strategizing against the enemy, he could see at least ten moves ahead and always anticipated the enemy's moves.

Zhao Yunwen didn't keep them in suspense and said directly:

"It's very simple, it's a 'cattle-drawing' tactic, leaving a battalion of the 646th Regiment to cause trouble on the Jinpu Railway and provoke hatred;

The main force retreated into the mountains to wait for an opportunity. If the Japanese could not withstand the provocation and pursuit, they were lured into the mountains.

If they have few men, we'll ambush them; if they have many, we'll lead them all over the mountain, dragging the fat guys until they're skinny. When the Japanese are exhausted, the main force will ambush and annihilate a portion of them, defeating them one by one!

Chief of Staff Xie found these tactics somewhat familiar, but he didn't delve into them or ask questions he shouldn't.

Old Xie was actually overthinking it. He was just adopting a "take-what-you-need" approach. Many successful tactics in later generations were tested in actual combat, so use them when appropriate.

Zhao Yunwen only provided general outlines; he left the task of developing detailed battle plans to the chief of staff, effectively relinquishing his responsibilities.

After Xie Polu compiled the battle report, he submitted it to the headquarters in the name of the 107th Division, which caused a great stir.

Li Delin sensed an opportunity and held a press conference in Pengcheng, revealing to the outside world that the Nationalist army had deployed a force north of Yixian County, ready to retake Yixian and capture Seya Kei alive.

This stirred up a hornet's nest, and Seiya Kei was the first to lose his composure, angrily cursing:

"Damn it, a bunch of useless trash. The 10th Regiment has swept through several times, how come there are still fish that have escaped? And it's not just a small fish, it has the strength to annihilate two Imperial Army infantry companies."

The chief of staff then continued:

"General, this force must be Zhao Yunwen's guerrilla column, which is now the 107th Division. The number of troops is not too large, around three thousand."

Zhao Yunwen is a very cunning man who is good at sneak attacks and is ruthless.

General Li Delin of China suddenly released such a message, mainly to undermine the morale of our troops, but we cannot rule out the possibility that it might actually be a ruse; Zhao Yunwen is known for his audacity.

Kei Seya was equally worried about this matter, and said in a deep voice:

"In your opinion, can the Imperial Army left behind withstand Zhao Yunwen's attack?"

"General, there shouldn't be any problem, but a wise man avoids dangerous situations. If the command post is attacked by the Chinese, it will greatly affect the morale of the front lines. I still suggest that we request tactical guidance from the division commander."

Major General Kei Seya was also very worried. At his level, words of loyalty to the Emperor were just for show; he was more afraid of death than anyone else.

He dared not take the risk, so he said to the chief of staff:

"Immediately send a telegram to the division headquarters requesting tactical guidance. Ideally, three to four battalions should be dispatched to clear out the Zaozhuang-Yixian line to ensure the supply line remains open."

Major General Seya didn't mention protecting himself, so he wouldn't lose face. The chief of staff chuckled and accepted the order.
