Wasteland Survivalist: A Scientific Guide to Post-Apocalyptic Survival
Chapter 120 Thunder
Gu Lang picked up the remote control and zoomed in on the video.
The pixels gradually became clearer, outlining some chilling details.
"These soldiers all had numerous wounds and bloodstains, confirming that the advance team had been completely wiped out."
"You can't jump to conclusions based on just this," Li Zheng retorted weakly.
"Oh, really? Then take a look at this."
Gu Lang handed over the remote control, presenting the decisive evidence.
In the picture, the man at the front, who appears to be the officer in charge, is wearing a conspicuous "cloak" behind him.
The colors and shapes were extremely bizarre, causing discomfort at first glance, and the cloak and hood were covered in black fur.
All signs indicate that it was a human skin.
"They weren't missing after all; they were infected..."
Li Zheng's voice was hoarse, and he showed an expression of disbelief.
"Let's go, there are too many of them, we must retreat immediately!"
"But the mission..." Li Zheng wanted to argue.
Just then, a dark object fell vertically from the sky and landed on the ground next to the three of them with a "thud".
Before Gu Lang could even figure out what it was, Wang Bin, who was closest to him, had already reacted.
"Get down!" he roared.
He sprang out like a cheetah, kicking the object that had landed into the air.
Gu Lang was pulled down by Li Zheng and fell to the ground.
"boom!!!"
A loud bang and shockwave swept in, and dirt and bits of grass pelted the helmet.
Gu Lang was dazed and confused by the explosion, his hearing filled with a sharp ringing in his ears.
He stood up and looked up at the sky, where an almost indistinguishable black dot hovered overhead.
"Bombing drones!" Gu Lang shouted, his voice sounding distant and unreal even to himself.
Before the grenade exploded, the three men practically scrambled to their feet and lay down in disarray.
After the explosion, they realized the danger of the open area almost at the same time and rushed toward the Lynx assault vehicle.
"Get in! Quickly!"
Li Zheng was the first to climb back into the driver's seat, and the engine roared fiercely.
The remaining two followed suit and jumped into the car. Gu Lang noticed that Wang Bin seemed to be injured and was limping, so he quickly pulled him into the car.
The Lynx assault vehicle darted off like a startled rabbit, crashing off the roadbed and plunging into the dense woodland beside the road.
They had assumed the dense canopy would provide cover, but the hunting drone seemed to have X-ray vision, relentlessly following the assault vehicle from the air.
As his hearing gradually returned, he could faintly hear the roars of the berserkers behind him.
Gu Lang quickly realized something was wrong, and after thinking for a few seconds, he understood the problem.
He shouted at Li Zheng, "Thermal imaging! That thing has a thermal imager! The woods are useless!"
As if to confirm his words, the buzzing sound of rotors came from above again.
Gu Lang took out a homemade gun from his bag and fired two shots at the drone, but as expected, the two single-shot bullets missed.
The drone operator, seemingly seeing Gulang's futile struggle, mockingly lowered the altitude.
As the distance drew closer, Gu Lang desperately saw the details of the drone.
The bomb dispenser at the bottom was empty, but a small square brick was still strapped to the fuselage.
If he's not mistaken, it should be C4 explosives.
He immediately found bird bullets specifically designed for anti-drone use and loaded them into the barrel along with nitrocellulose.
Just then, the drone in the sky suddenly accelerated and rushed towards the Lynx assault vehicle.
Gu Lang took a deep breath and stood up, pressing his legs firmly against the seat.
The adrenaline rush triggered by the danger made time seem to slow down.
He turned on the power switch, aimed at the sky behind him with all his might, and pressed both firing joysticks at the same time.
With a "bang," a gunshot rang out, and hundreds of lead pellets were ejected from each of the two gun barrels.
It flew tens of meters away and spread out into a huge jet of metal.
The drone jolted, lost its balance, and plummeted downwards.
An explosion occurred just before landing, and the shockwave flipped Gu Lang onto the floor of the assault vehicle.
The homemade gun slipped from his hand and fell to the ground, disappearing into who knows where.
Only then did he realize that the ground was covered in blood, and Wang Bin was still struggling to stop his own bleeding.
Gu Lang immediately got up and observed the pursuers behind him.
The madman's car was not seen, but a drone was still chasing it from the sky.
"Damn it! It's like a persistent ghost."
Upon learning of this situation, Li Zheng immediately drove his car under the overpass in an attempt to conceal his whereabouts.
"Go into the university town; it's secluded enough there."
Gu Lang pointed to a commercial street not far away and shouted that the street had a canopy that could block infrared signatures.
"Hurry up!"
The Lynx assault vehicle roared in, and the drone, seemingly blocked by the signals from the surrounding buildings, thankfully didn't follow.
Gu Lang and his two companions finally managed to shake off their pursuers.
Li Zheng then drove the car into the campus of a medical university and parked it in an indoor gymnasium.
Above the venue is a large dome, through which outside light shines through translucent polycarbonate panels, illuminating the dim and empty interior.
"Old Wang, how are you?!" Li Zheng turned off the engine and turned around anxiously.
Wang Bin leaned back in his seat, his face pale and his forehead covered in cold sweat.
He pointed to his left thigh; his combat pants were torn, and dark blood soaked through the fabric.
"The helmet and bulletproof vest covered my vitals..." he gritted his teeth, his voice squeezed out from between his teeth, "but there's something embedded in my leg... I put a tourniquet on it myself."
Wang Bin's groin area was already tightly bound with a twisted tourniquet.
Seeing that Li Zheng was already taking care of Wang Bin, Gu Lang immediately picked up his rifle to check that the surroundings were safe.
After searching the area and finding no one, he closed the access road for vehicles to transport equipment.
Back in the car, Li Zheng opened the military first-aid kit and took out sterile gauze and gauze scissors.
Carefully cutting open the blood-soaked trouser leg, revealing the gruesome wound underneath.
The muscles were irregularly twisted open, revealing a twisted metal fragment deeply embedded inside—a horrifying sight.
"We need to get the shrapnel out, clean it, and stitch it up," Li Zheng said, his voice regaining its soldierly composure.
"I'll help." Gu Lang tightened his mask and put on disposable medical gloves.
Li Zheng took out the fentanyl nasal spray to relieve Wang Bin's pain.
Working together, the two followed standard field first aid procedures, using iodine-disinfected tweezers and suture needles to deftly remove the shrapnel and complete the suturing and bandaging.
Wang Bin was lucky; the wound did not penetrate, and the shrapnel did not damage any major arteries.
After suturing the wound, Li Zheng covered it with sterile dressing, then bandaged it with a bandage and reinforced it with a triangular bandage.
Wang Bin's condition has stabilized for the time being, but his next move stunned both Gu Lang and Li Zheng.
He weakly but firmly raised his hand, signaling the two people beside him to move away from him.
