Chapter 9: Selling Goods and Locating the Firm

The car slowly drove through the streets of Los Angeles, bathed in the morning light.

The hotel owner, in a cheerful mood, chatted with Li Yuan in the passenger seat.

"My name is Reno, and I come from a small town in Maine."

He glanced at Li Yuan and asked with a smile:

"And you? Asian exorcist, are you Japanese?"

Upon hearing this, Li Yuan's face darkened, and he then frowned and explained to Renault:

"My name is Li Yuan, and I come from the Celestial Empire."

If you tell other Chinese people that they are from Japan...

Believe me, that person definitely won't be happy.

Renault paused, then said with a hint of apology:

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you."

"I only know them, well... especially their movies..."

"I understand, and I like it too."

Li Yuan shrugged helplessly.

"My name is Edward, and I'm from Chicago..."

At that moment, Edward, clinging to the car seat, stuck his chubby head out from the back and greeted them familiarly.

"Oh, hello, cute little chubby boy."

Renault glanced at Edward's face in the rearview mirror, then winked and teased:

"You'd be a hit at Spotlight bar, but you'd be missing a full beard."

"Oh no, don't lie to me, I know what that place is, and I don't drink..."

Edward shrank back with a somewhat unpleasant expression.

Li Yuan thought to himself, "This boss is a real conversation genius. He can make the atmosphere go cold with just a few words."

Just then, Li Yuan's phone suddenly rang.

He looked down and saw it was a text message.

"Good morning, exorcist. Are you on your way to punish evil again?" — Megan.

Li Yuan couldn't help but curl his lips into a smile, and replied while pressing the button on his old Nokia brick:

"Of course, this afternoon I'm going to save a broken family."

Li Yuan, who had just sent the message, immediately received a reply from Megan.

"I'm so envious. I wish you all the best."

"Thanks."

Li Yuan put away his phone and smiled, while Edward behind him asked gossipily:

"Who is that?"

"You didn't go on a date last night, did you? Was it with a flight attendant?"

Renault chimed in from the side:

"It must be! I recognize that expression, hahaha!"

"Little fatty, you've been abandoned."

Edward roared angrily, "I'm not! I'm a real man!"

Amidst their argument, the car slowly came to a stop in front of a pawn shop.

"Hey Pete, this is an exorcist, don't mess with him."

As Renault entered, he immediately warned Pete, the pawnshop owner, not to try anything funny.

"Don't worry, old Pete is honest and reliable!"

Pete drawled out his teasing tone, then looked at Li Yuan:

"Young man, what do you want to sell?"

Li Yuan took the gold watch from Edward and handed it over.

"Take a look at this first, there are others too."

Pete reached out and took it, placing it on the table and examining it with a magnifying glass.

"Wow, the Daytona Ref. 6263 is in great condition, almost no scratches, very well maintained."

Pete put down the magnifying glass with a hint of regret and muttered:

"It's a pity it's not a Paul Newman dial. I could offer 15,000 for this watch."

Li Yuan nodded and said without hesitation:

"No problem, take a look at these next few."

As he spoke, Li Yuan handed over four watches that he had taken from Kenny's pawnshop.

"Wow, there's quite a lot of stuff."

Pete took them one by one and examined them carefully.

"These are just average, you can get 3000 for one."

"Okay, I'll sell them all to you."

Just as the other party was about to write a check to pay Li Yuan, Li Yuan suddenly asked:

"Boss, do you buy ambergris here?"

"Of course I'll take it. Old Pete has a hand in everything."

He asked curiously, "Do you have ambergris?"

Li Yuan smiled and nodded, then took out the backpack containing the ambergris and handed it over.

"My God..."

Old Pete opened the zipper of his backpack and shakily took out five fist-sized pieces of ambergris.

"I can't possibly consume so much high-quality ambergris; it would cost over 10..."

He stared at the raw materials in his hand, hesitated for a moment, then gritted his teeth and said:

"Give me your phone number, and I'll get a few friends to buy this batch together."

Li Yuan nodded, wrote down a number and handed it over, then took the backpack from the other person:

"Yes, but as soon as possible."

Li Yuan didn't want such a large sum of money to remain in his hands.

After nodding and putting away the phone number, Pitt teased Li Yuan with a hint of envy.

"Kid, once you get this shipment, you'll be living the high life in Los Angeles for a while."

Li Yuan said somewhat noncommittally:

"This is just the beginning."

In the end, Li Yuan left Pete's Pawnshop with a check for 4 yuan and cash for 7 yuan.

The group then went to Los Angeles to select a firm's office space.

Li Yuan first spotted a store of about 100 square meters on Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.

"This one's pretty good, Edward, what do you think?"

Li Yuan gazed at the beautiful scenery around him, and at the beautiful women who passed by from time to time.

He felt that his shop would definitely be successful if it opened here!

Before Edward could speak, Reno poured cold water on Li Yuan's enthusiasm:

"Stop messing around. You don't have enough money to mess around in a place like this. I think it's more realistic for you to go to the Holy Valley."

"I...I'll ask around..." Li Yuan tried calling the landlord.

Upon hearing that the monthly rent alone would be $4000, he promptly abandoned his plan to rent the place.

He glanced at the store he liked and sighed:

"I will come back again..."

Ultimately, Li Yuan rented a two-story storefront in the middle of Lanxime Avenue in North Hollywood for $950 per month.

The three then had lunch together nearby.

Li Yuan handed the check to Edward and instructed him:

"Edward, the rest is up to you, including our lodging."

After taking the check, Edward asked curiously, "Have you decided on a name for your firm?"

"Of course! Let's call it 'Li Yuan Supernatural Consultation Agency'!"

"What an awful name..."

After the three parted ways, Renault took Li Yuan to the office building of Hell Morning Show.

"Can I go with you?"

Renault, having parked the car, asked with some reluctance.

Li Yuan shook his head and refused.

"You should go back to sleep, Renault. I'll definitely show you around sometime."

Renault sighed and murmured:

"To be honest, there are those kinds of legends in our town, but I haven't experienced them myself, so I don't know much about them."

Upon hearing this, Li Yuan asked with some curiosity:

Which town in Maine are you in?

"Delhi Town".

"..."

Li Yuan: "Believe me, there will be a chance..."

He waved goodbye to Renault, who had a happy childhood.

Upon entering the lobby, Li Yuan realized it wasn't time yet, so he didn't go directly to the front desk.

Instead, he chose a sofa and sat down quietly, waiting for the others to arrive.

However, he made an unexpected discovery just after sitting down.

On the sofa not far from me, a woman was sadly wiping away tears.

Li Yuan thought she looked familiar, so he curiously sat down next to her and handed her a tissue.

"Hello, miss, are you in any trouble?"

The woman gratefully took the tissue, wiped her face, and said sadly:

"It's all my fault... If I hadn't gone for the cheapest option, I wouldn't have bought that haunted house..."

Li Yuan was taken aback upon hearing this, then suddenly realized.

No wonder he looked familiar; it turns out it's the person in question.

He gently comforted her:

"It's alright, madam. Didn't an exorcist promise to come and exorcise the demon?"

"But we no longer have the money to pay for exorcisms."

The woman became increasingly distressed as she spoke, and tears streamed down her face.

Li Yuan paused for a moment, then said meaningfully:

"The exorcism fee has to be paid no matter what, but it's not necessarily a price you can't afford."

"This gentleman is right."

At that moment, a man's voice rang out beside Li Yuan.

He looked up and saw a middle-aged priest wearing a Roman collar and holding a Bible, standing in front of him with a smile.

He then spoke to the woman:

"Madam, I have already said that as long as you agree to my conditions, I can perform an exorcism for your family free of charge."

Hearing the man's words, Li Yuan stared at him with wide eyes.

He thought to himself, "Damn, you priests really know how to have fun!"
