American comics: Incredible comprehension, hand-crafted forbidden spells

Chapter 149 S.H.I.E.L.D.'s defense system goes berserk!

Captain America, drenched in sweat and teetering on one leg, looked at Black Widow and Hill with a wry smile.

Even if he is a superhuman enhanced by the Super Soldier Serum, with physical abilities far exceeding those of ordinary people, he can't withstand this kind of prolonged stagnation.

The most agonizing thing is that this meaningless punishment doesn't even have a countdown timer.

"I'm telling you, we can't just stand here like fossils, can we?" Captain America took a deep breath, trying to reason with everyone. "If we move quietly and carefully, can't the magic be broken? We should trust science!"

"Steve, I really don't mean to discourage you," Black Widow said, her voice strained as she stared intently at Captain America's feet. "But look at Stark, who just flew away. He was the most scientific believer, and look what happened? Now he believes in Lin Jie's magic more than anyone else."

Hill chimed in, "Steve, Natasha never jokes about this kind of thing. You'd better trust her."

The two of them, working together, not only extinguished Captain America's newly mustered courage, but even Hawkeye next to him swallowed hard and dared not move.

Just as the stalemate reached its peak, Nick Fury, who had been wearing a dark expression, suddenly let out a cold snort.

"I really don't understand, how could a mere kid's casual remark scare S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top agents to this extent?"

Nick Fury finally snapped.

He, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who controls the world's largest secret agency, was actually so frightened by a single sentence that he stood in his own conference room for more than an hour as punishment!

Who could bear such injustice?

Nick Fury simply refused to believe it.

"What kind of sorcerer? He's probably just a conman who knows a bit of trickery."

Nick Fury, grumbling as he went, ignored the horrified looks on Black Widow's and Hill's faces and strode toward the conference room door.

"Chief! Don't move!"

Black Widow and Hill screamed in unison.

Nick Fury ignored him and strode forward five or six steps.

He stopped, looked back at himself, who was unharmed, and then at the crowd still frozen in place, a smug smile spreading across his face.

"See? Nothing happened!" Nick Fury spread his hands, his tone full of sarcasm. "You guys are supposed to be people who've seen a lot, and you're scaring yourselves. It's ridiculous."

After saying that, Nick Fury turned around, ready to forcefully open the conference room door.

The result was that they had only taken one step.

Click!

Nick Fury suddenly heard a crisp mechanical sound under his feet, as if he had stepped on something hard.

His smug expression froze instantly, his brows furrowed sharply, and he slowly lowered his head.

It's better not to watch it.

Upon seeing this, Nick Fury was struck dumb, his mind going completely blank.

What he was stepping on was a high-tech composite bow with an exaggerated design!

"This...isn't this Hawkeye's bow?!"

Nick Fury jerked his head up, his one eye fixed on Hawkeye. "Why did it fall by the door?!"

Hawkeye looked equally bewildered: "You're asking me? I'd like to know how it grew legs and ran there!"

We were arguing about how to deal with Ultron, and no one noticed that Thanos had dragged the bow here, nor did anyone see Thanos throw the bow on the ground before he was blown away.

Nick Fury swallowed hard, and a cold sweat instantly broke out on his forehead.

He had a very ominous premonition.

It's important to know that Hawkeye's weapons are all custom-made high-tech gadgets by S.H.I.E.L.D.

Not only are the arrowheads intricately designed, but even the bow itself contains deadly mechanisms.

To prevent Hawkeye from being surrounded by enemies in close combat, an "emergency full-fire" button is installed in a concealed part of the bow handle.

Once this button is pressed, all the remaining high-explosive arrows in the quiver will be automatically and randomly fired one minute later, giving the enemy an indiscriminate barrage.

The button is designed to be very well hidden; even Hawkeye himself has to fumble around to find it.

But now.

Nick Fury not only stepped on it, but also, by sheer bad luck, stepped on the red switch that was smaller than a soybean!

Beep... beep beep... beep beep beep beep!

A crisp countdown timer suddenly rang out in the conference room, like a death knell.

Captain America: "..."

Black Widow: "..."

Hill: "..."

Everyone looked at Nick Fury as if he were a madman who had lit a bomb.

"Hill..." Nick Fury's voice was dry, like he was chewing sand. "Is it too late for me to take back what I just said? I think I've really started believing in magic."

Hill closed his eyes in despair: "Chief, I'm afraid it's too late."

Hawkeye, his face ashen, roared, "I still have at least ten specially made high-explosive arrows in my quiver! If I fire them all, this floor will be razed to the ground!"

Captain America finally lowered his foot, which had been dangling, and shouted, "Are we just going to stay here and wait to die?!"

Black Widow was the most decisive, not even needing to answer: "Run!"

Before the words were even finished, the five people in the conference room instantly abandoned their superhero personas and, like rabbits being chased by wolves, rushed out of the room, scrambling to break down the door.

Even Nick Fury, who usually walks with a steady gait, was running at the speed of a 100-meter sprint.

In the corridor outside the door, several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents on duty hadn't even figured out what was going on when they saw their director and the Avengers rushing out like they were fleeing a disaster.

"What are you looking at! Run! The conference room is going to explode in a minute! Sound the alarm and spread the word!" Captain America yelled as he ran.

The agents were terrified and quickly pulled out their walkie-talkies to frantically call for help.

However, when people are in a state of extreme panic, the messages they relay are often distorted.

"Headquarters calling all departments! The conference room is about to explode! Run!"

Upon reaching the next floor, the message changed to: "Attention all departments! The top floor has been completely destroyed! Evacuate the building immediately!"

When the message reached the security department, it became: "Emergency! S.H.I.E.L.D. has suffered a devastating blow! It's about to be completely obliterated!"

Instantly, alarms blared throughout the entire S.H.I.E.L.D. building, and red lights flashed wildly.

The agents ran around the corridor like headless flies, scattering documents all over the floor, and the scene was completely out of control.

Just when things were in complete chaos...

Inside the security control center, a rookie agent, terrified by the commotion, slapped the most conspicuous red button on the control panel in a panic.

The next second, a cold, mechanical broadcast echoed throughout the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters:

"Warning! The highest level of defense system has been fully activated."

"Warning! All externally armed drones are now in launch-ready status."

"Warning! Internal purge process initiated, targeting the attack target."

Nick Fury, who was running wildly down the stairwell, stumbled upon hearing the announcement and tumbled down the stairs.

He fell and was bleeding from his head. He lay on the ground, his mind filled with only one desperate thought.

The highest level of defense has been activated?!

The drone is ready to launch?!

This is practically wiping out all of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s own people!

Lin Jie!

You call this smooth sailing?!
