Ming Dynasty: Gain one supernatural power every day

Chapter 17 The Wonderful Uses of Creation

After the court session ended, Zhu Di changed into his court robes, took Empress Xu's hand, and walked towards the Qianxi Fourth Palace.

"Your Majesty, where are we going?" Empress Xu asked.

"Go see the fourth prince." Zhu Di walked at a leisurely pace. "He moved back today. Now that you're feeling better, go out for a walk and stretch your muscles."

Empress Xu smiled and nodded. Since recovering from her illness, she hadn't left Kunning Palace, so she decided to go and see where her youngest son was staying.

The Qianxi Fourth Palace was located in the northwest corner of the inner court. The courtyard was small, but its charm lay in its tranquility. An old locust tree shaded half the sky, and beneath it sat a stone table and benches. Zhu Gaoxi was sitting on a stone bench drinking porridge when he saw his father and mother arrive. He quickly stood up and bowed.

"Your subject greets the Emperor and the Empress Dowager."

Zhu Di waved his hand and sat down on the stone bench. Empress Xu sat down next to him, looked around the courtyard, and said with a smile, "This place is quiet, but it's a bit small."

"It's not too small anymore." Zhu Gaoxi said with a grin as he served porridge to his father and mother. "It's enough for me to live alone."

Empress Xu took the bowl of porridge, tasted it, and raised an eyebrow slightly. She took another sip, put down the bowl, and looked at Zhu Gaoxi:

"Xi'er, where did you come from, cook? Why does this porridge taste different from other places?"

Zhu Di also took a bite, his eyebrows raised, then picked up another piece of food with his chopsticks, chewed it, and narrowed his eyes. He put down his chopsticks and looked at his youngest son:

"This dish is truly extraordinary. It's so fresh, it's almost like it's alive."

Zhu Gaoxi smiled and lowered his voice: "Father, Mother, this is not the cook's doing. It was your son who did it."

"What tricks did they use?" Empress Xu asked curiously.

Zhu Gaoxi pointed to the dishes on the table:

"Your Majesty, I used the power of creation to infuse the food with a wisp of life. Nourished by this life force, the ingredients are bursting with flavor. Not only is it delicious, it's also good for your health. Your Majesty has just recovered from a serious illness, so she should eat more of it."

Empress Xu was taken aback, then her eyes reddened slightly, and she shook her head with a smile: "You child, you are so thoughtful."

Zhu Di picked up another piece of food with his chopsticks, chewed it, and nodded in satisfaction.

"No wonder I felt so warm all over while eating. It turns out it was the work of the immortals."

He glanced at Zhu Gaoxi, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Fourth brother, your skills are far superior to those in the imperial kitchen."

Zhu Gaoxi was embarrassed by the praise and scratched his head: "I'm glad Father Emperor likes it."

The family of three was eating when they heard hurried footsteps outside the courtyard gate. Before the old eunuch could announce their arrival, the gate was pushed open.

Zhu Gaoxu was the first to rush in, shouting, "Fourth brother! Fourth brother! Quickly take your second brother and fly on your sword!"

Before he could finish speaking, he saw the people sitting by the stone table: his father and his mother.

Zhu Gaoxu felt as if something was blocking his throat, his smile froze, and his feet felt like they were nailed to the ground, unable to move an inch.

Zhu Gaosui followed behind him, peeked out, and quickly grabbed his second brother's sleeve, lowering his voice: "Second brother, Father and Mother are both here..."

Zhu Gaochi entered, panting. Upon seeing his father and mother sitting upright, he sighed resignedly.

Zhu Zhanji peeked out from behind his father and saw his grandparents. He was so frightened that he shrank back and quickly hid behind his father's legs.

The brothers immediately knelt down, even Zhu Zhanji followed suit, their voices uneven:

"Your subject greets the Emperor and the Empress Dowager."

"Grandson greets His Majesty the Emperor and His Majesty the Emperor."

Zhu Di put down his chopsticks, wiped his hands, and said slowly:

"So rash and unruly! What kind of behavior is this? I haven't even said anything yet, and you're already getting anxious."

Zhu Gaoxu knelt on the ground, not daring to raise his head. His shout just now must have been heard throughout the entire alley.

Empress Xu smiled and shook her head: "Get up, all of you." The group stood up and stood obediently under the eaves, not daring to move.

Zhu Gaoxi put down his bowl, looked at his brothers and nephews, and asked with a smile, "Eldest brother, second brother, third brother, have you eaten? If not, sit down and have something. Zhanji, come over here too."

Zhu Gaoxu was about to say, "I'm not eating anymore, taking my second brother flying is more important," but his nose caught the aroma of the dishes on the table before he could. The fragrance wafted into his nose, making his stomach rumble.

Zhu Gaosui's Adam's apple bobbed.

Zhu Gaochi had left in a hurry that morning and only had a bowl of porridge to tide him over. Now, smelling the aroma, his stomach was growling. Zhu Zhanji was even more eager, his mouth practically watering, staring longingly at the dishes on the table, pursing his lips repeatedly.

Zhu Gaochi glared at his son: "Be more sensible." But then his own stomach growled.

Empress Xu smiled and beckoned, "Come and sit down, everyone. What are you standing for?"

The brothers thanked the emperor and sat down at the stone table. The eunuch quickly added several bowls and chopsticks. Zhu Gaoxu picked up a piece of mutton with his chopsticks, put it in his mouth, chewed it a couple of times, and then his eyes widened suddenly.

"What does this taste like? How can it be so delicious?" Zhu Gaosui picked up a piece of fish with his chopsticks, chewed it, raised his eyebrows, and then picked up another piece.

Zhu Gaochi took a bite of the dish, his eyes narrowed, and he muttered, "How was this dish made? It's so delicious!"

Zhu Zhanji ate without even lifting his head, his little mouth stuffed full, his cheeks bulging like a little hamster.

Empress Xu couldn't help but laugh as she watched the children wolf down their food.

"This is your fourth brother's skill. He infuses the food with the power of creation, with vitality and divine energy. Ordinary people can benefit from eating it, it can cure diseases if they are sick, and strengthen the body if they are not sick."

Zhu Gaoxu picked up another large mouthful of food and said indistinctly:

"Fourth brother, your abilities are truly astounding! You can cure illnesses, ascend to heaven, and even cook better than the imperial chefs. I'll be coming to your courtyard often from now on."

Zhu Gaosui nodded: "It is indeed different; it makes you feel warm all over after eating it."

As Zhu Gaochi ate, he said, "Fourth brother, I haven't had enough of your cooking. I'm afraid I'll want to come here every day from now on."

Zhu Gaoxu: "Boss, with your size, you're still eating. You should lose weight."

Zhu Di and Empress Xu glanced at it and echoed, "She really should lose weight."

Zhu Zhanji lifted his head from his bowl, his mouth glistening with oil: "Fourth Uncle, your cooking is even better than the imperial kitchen's. Can I come here every day from now on?"

Zhu Gaoxi smiled and said, "Okay. Come every day, and your fourth uncle will save some for you."

Zhu Di put down his chopsticks, glanced at his sons, and said irritably, "You all have your own residences, yet you come to your fourth brother's place every day to freeload. What kind of behavior is that?"

Empress Xu gently patted Zhu Di's hand and said with a smile, "Let them come. It's a good thing for the brothers to visit each other more often and get closer." Zhu Di snorted and said nothing more.

Zhu Gaoxu shoveled the rice out of his bowl, then reluctantly put down his chopsticks, wiped his mouth, and looked at Zhu Gaoxi: "Fourth brother, you've eaten and drunk your tea, when are you going to take your second brother flying away?"

Zhu Di glanced at him: "Your fourth brother hasn't even rested for a while after finishing his meal. What's your hurry?" Zhu Gaoxu immediately shut his mouth, but his eyes still couldn't help but glance at the sky.
