American comic: From Beijing with Love, starting with a mutant.
Chapter 143: Didn't get to eat dinner, ate two rockets first.
Snowflakes pelted the windshield, and the RV struggled to move forward on the icy road, its tires constantly slipping.
In the passenger seat, Stephen Chow counted the dishes on his fingers, muttering to himself, "Braised venison, maple pancakes, creamy mashed potatoes, and a hot soup to calm my nerves... The food standards at the White Horse City headquarters sound pretty good."
He patted the center console and urged earnestly, "Xiao Da, floor the gas pedal! Let's try to make it to dinner. This kind of strategic opportunity for lavish spending of public funds is a once-in-a-lifetime chance; we must seize it!"
Darwin glanced at Stephen Chow: "This piece of junk won't go any faster even if you floor the gas pedal. Save your appetite for your Manchu Han Imperial Feast in your dreams."
"Young man, you don't understand." Stephen Chow sighed. "You don't appreciate the organizational benefits right in front of you. You'll suffer sooner or later."
Despite his nonsensical remarks, his gaze remained fixed on the scenery outside the car window.
In the back seat, the Moon Boy hugged the thick leg bone given to him by Bigfoot, gnawing on it with a blissful expression and his mouth dripping with oil.
The young man was completely absorbed in the deliciousness of the bone marrow, oblivious to the wind and snow outside, and occasionally letting out a satisfied snort.
The distance of over 100 kilometers can usually be covered in two hours.
But today's weather is unusually strange.
The wind and snow were swirling horizontally, and after driving for nearly two and a half hours, the progress bar on the navigation system had barely moved halfway.
Darwin stared ahead, and his ear suddenly twitched slightly as he heard a low hum, different from the sound of the wind.
"Something's not right... little..."
Two Nighthawk helicopters tore through the clouds and descended from above the snow curtain.
The fuselage was painted with low-visibility paint, and it wasn't until they hovered above the RV and the snow mist kicked up by the rotor blades hit the roof that everyone could see the weapon racks extending from under the fuselage.
The hatch opened, and two small rockets, trailing plumes of fire, hurtled towards the RV.
"Damn it! Jump out of the car!"
Darwin jerked the steering wheel, but unfortunately, the car couldn't keep up with the rocket's speed.
"BOOM!"
The explosion shattered the RV into pieces, sending flames soaring into the sky.
Stephen Chow, carrying a suitcase, fell into a snowdrift.
In the face of death, Darwin's mutant ability activated in response to stress. The tissue beneath his skin writhed wildly, and the surface layer hardened rapidly, rendering the fragments and shockwaves that struck him ineffective.
The Moon Boy was also thrown out, and when he landed, he rolled twice in the snow, but his hands still clung to the deer leg bone.
He staggered to his feet and jumped near Stephen Chow. A piece of flying metal cut his shoulder, and blood flowed down his black hair.
The Silver Peak Consortium's A-3 Special Operations Team descended along the rope, and the fully armed members stepped into the snow, quickly forming a fan-shaped formation.
Two burly men led the way through the snow; one had crimson flames burning on his arms, while the other was covered in gray-white rock armor.
"Target located," the rock man reported into the microphone. "Stephen Zhou captured alive. The other two are to be recovered according to the anomalous asset standards."
"Abnormal assets?"
Zhou Xingxing stood up from the snowdrift, checked that his suitcase was undamaged, and then looked at the Moon Boy, who had an injury on his shoulder.
Enraged, Comrade Zhou drew his butcher knife, the blade reflecting the raging flames.
"You blew up the car I borrowed," Zhou Xingxing said coldly, taking a step forward. "You also injured my employee. In our Bureau 749, the process for cross-border work injury determination and medical expense reimbursement is incredibly complicated!"
"Take him down!"
The Flame Mutant roared, pushing his arms forward, and two blazing fire snakes shot out, instantly steaming up a large cloud of white mist from the snow.
Zhou Xingxing's inner strength surged, and his figure moved like lightning, rushing upstream against the fire snake.
The fire-wielding mutant's vision blurred, and he was already kicked on the outside of his knee.
"Snap!"
His leg broke on the spot, and the flames went out of control, whipping back and burning his face with soot.
Before he could make the next move, Stephen Chow had already delivered an elbow strike to his jaw, slamming him into the snow.
"The fire was quite big; it's a pity your company didn't provide you with a fire extinguisher."
Seeing his companion thwarted, the rock man roared and swung his giant rock fist, the size of a water tank, at him.
Zhou Xingxing took an eerie step, sliding back half a step while still close to the giant fist, and the butcher knife flashed with a sharp light.
The blade, like a venomous dragon, sliced into the seams of the rock armor.
The Rock Mutants' defenses, which they were so proud of, were as fragile as paper in front of the Tianshan Cold Iron.
Three cuts, just three cuts.
The rock man's tendons in both hands were severed, and his massive body crashed to his knees, only able to let out desperate, painful howls.
At the same time, the Moon Boy swung the thick deer leg bone covered in bits of flesh with one hand and charged into the crowd.
The deer leg bone smashed the bulletproof helmet, snapped the assault rifle, and sent several highly trained Silver Peak Squad members flying like balls.
In just over ten seconds, the entire A-3 task force was wiped out, with wounded soldiers lying convulsing in the snow pits.
The helicopter overhead saw that the ground had been lost, and the machine gunner in the cabin was about to lean out.
Suddenly, Stephen Chow looked up and pulled out a throwing knife, holding it between his fingers.
"Whoosh!"
The throwing knife tangled into the tail rotor, and a blinding burst of sparks erupted from the tail of the Nighthawk helicopter.
The unbalanced aircraft spun violently in mid-air before crashing into a thick snowdrift ahead.
The pilot of the other helicopter slammed on the control stick and pulled up to escape.
Stephen Chow took a single step on the snow, and his entire body leaped into the air, rushing towards the helicopter.
He raised the butcher knife high, channeling profound internal energy into it, and the blade burst forth with a sharp light.
The helicopter's weapon pylons, along with half of the landing gear, snapped off cleanly, falling to the ground amidst sparks and lightning.
The battle ended in a very short time.
Zhou Xingxing landed steadily and casually adjusted his hat.
"You're that capable?"
Darwin climbed out of the snow pit, utterly astonished by Stephen Chow's abilities.
"What? You're so skilled? I'm a master pastry chef!"
Old Zhou walked up to the Flame mutant with the broken leg and took his communicator.
Muller's furious voice came from inside: "A-3! Report back! Did you get the key?"
Zhou Xingxing cleared his throat: "Your A-3 team is currently experiencing Canada's unique winter climate firsthand, so we might not be able to write a work summary for you anytime soon."
"Stephen Chow".
"Oh, it's me."
"You think you can keep that key by hiding in Canada?"
"That's exactly what I wanted to ask you. You chased me this far, blew up my car, and injured my men. What exactly are you trying to extract from that pile of data?"
Muller paused for a moment, then his voice turned cold again: "You...will soon realize that it's not something you deserve!"
Communication is interrupted.
Stephen Chow pursed his lips and threw the communicator in his hand into the snowdrift.
"Let's go, the hot meal at the White Horse City headquarters is still beckoning us."
Old Zhou glanced at the map on his phone. "But we're still seventy or eighty kilometers away from our destination. We need to think of a way."
