Mystery: Death Singer

Chapter 91 Clarification

Klein's heart sank, but he could only grit his teeth and sit up, squinting at the figure enveloped in the crimson moonlight, and said in a surprised tone:

"Mr. Edric? Why am I buried in a coffin...?"

Before he could finish speaking, Klein felt something strange in his left chest, as if the wound was wriggling.

Edric had no intention of beating around the bush with Klein and went straight to the point:

"I wrote that note. This isn't the place to talk. Shouldn't we give you some time to say goodbye to Dunn?"

Klein swallowed back the question he was about to utter. He opened his eyes wide and looked incredulously in the direction Edric was pointing. Sure enough, he saw a tombstone with a black and white photograph on it.

"Impossible..." Klein shook his head in realization, then hurriedly climbed out of his coffin and rushed straight to the tombstone.

By the moonlight, the portrait in the black and white photograph was incredibly clear: a gentle expression, a high hairline, and the gray in the eyes was faintly visible, not much different from usual.

"Captain... how could this be..." Klein stared blankly, his vision blurring at some point.

He only remembered feeling a sharp pain in his chest, and a pale arm piercing through his heart from behind. His last memory of Dunn was of the captain suddenly casting an incredulous and furious glance at him.

Behind Klein, Edric had quickly restored the entire tomb, so perfectly that no one could detect the slightest flaw.

Of course, if someone were to choose to dig it up to confirm whether there were any bodies inside, there would be nothing Edric could do, since he couldn't exactly go somewhere else to get a skeleton and stuff it into Klein's tomb.

Klein stood like a statue before the tombstone for several minutes, then suddenly spoke:

"I want to know what exactly happened that day."

Edric glanced around and whispered a reminder:

"As a former employee of this cemetery, I must remind you again that this is not a suitable place to talk."

Klein took one last look at the photo and inscription on the tombstone, slowly drew a crimson moon on his chest, and then followed Edric out of Raphael Cemetery.

The two of them, one a former cemetery employee and the other a former night watchman, were quite familiar with the cemetery keeper's routines and the surrounding environment. Without causing any disturbance, they easily left that silent area where death was imbued.

Edric took Klein straight back to his cheap apartment on Iron Cross Street.

After gesturing for Klein to find a place to sit down, he casually prepared two cups of cheap tea befitting his public status, and then sat down opposite Klein.

After placing the tea in front of Klein, Edric raised an eyebrow and said with a relaxed expression:

"What would you like to ask?"

Klein blurted out, "Captain... how did Dunn die? Even if I was ambushed and knocked down, weren't there Leonard and Siga? With them there, how could the captain have died?"

Edric took a sip of tea, his face immediately contorting in pain as he nearly spat it out. He forced a smile and explained, barely containing his embarrassment:

"Dunne Smith died from excessive blood loss. That crazy woman inflicted too much trauma on him before she died, and your sudden death caused him to activate that magical item again, which further worsened the situation."

"As for the two people you mentioned, Sega and Leonard, they should be the other two people who were there at the time, right? The white-haired woman had her throat slit, and although the other person fought back desperately and did inflict serious damage on the person who attacked you, he was unable to stop it from happening."

Klein leaned back on the single sofa and asked in a low voice, "Siga...did that white-haired woman also sacrifice herself?"

"Probably not? There are only the two of you at today's funeral." Edric gave an uncertain answer, after all, his only connection among the Night Watchers had been "sacrificed," and his communication channels were completely cut off.

The unexpected good news relieved Klein, and he asked again:

"Mr. Edric, that note..."

Klein suddenly stopped, and after a moment of silence, he no longer cared about the answer to the question.

He knew very well that he had only met Edric a few times in the real world and they were by no means familiar with each other.

Logically speaking, there was no need for the other party to take the risk of giving a warning, reminding her not to let Dunn bring "Saint Selena's ashes" to the ground, which could cause stimulation to the fetus in Megos's womb.

Moreover, the timing of that note's appearance was too "coincidental." If it had been just a little later, the captain would have left the underground with "Saint Selena's ashes" and appeared before Megao's.

This "coincidence" alarmed Klein, who instinctively didn't want to delve deeper into it.

But regardless, Edric did help him and the Tingen Market Nightwalker team, a fact Klein acknowledged, and he was willing to repay this kindness and favor.

As Klein's thoughts raced, he subconsciously reached for his teacup to take a sip, but stopped abruptly just before touching it. Without a word, he changed the subject, asking the question that concerned him most:

"Mr. Edric, who killed me? Or rather, who was the guy who was hiding behind the scenes, plotting against the Tingen Market Nightwalker Squad? And what was his/her motive?"

Edric glanced indignantly at Klein's hand, which he had secretly withdrawn, and then laid it all out:

"I don't know his exact name, but I'm sure it was a man, blind in one eye, and an Extraordinary like me who followed the 'Corpse Collector' pathway. Your captain seemed to recognize him before he died."

"As for his purpose, he took the silver square box after Dunn's death, I don't know if that counts."

"Oh... when he was running away, a flying quill appeared and wrote and drew on his clothes."

The blind man, the captain knew him, the extraordinary one who had passed the "corpse collector" pathway, the flying quill pen... A thunderbolt struck Klein's mind.

He recalled a wanted poster he had seen long ago, which described a former archbishop who had defected, and it was exactly the same as what Edric was saying now!

"Ince Zangwill, persecuted Megas, harmed Siga, killed himself and the captain, and stole the church's sacred relics..."

Klein clenched his fists tightly, the confusion after his resurrection vanished, because he had found a clear and unwavering goal that he could not let go of no matter what!

And then there's that "fraudster" Lanluus. Ince Zangwell is undoubtedly the culprit, but Lanluus, this madman, also bears inescapable responsibility and must pay a bloody price for it!
