Mystery: Death Singer
Chapter 65 Departure
After returning to his cheap rental apartment in the East District and taking a nap to recharge, Edric took advantage of his free time in the morning to go to the flower and herb market to stock up on some herbs.
After that, he spent the entire afternoon in his room, trying to make as much "corpse flower hydrosol" as possible.
Even though he had absolute power over those undead creatures, Edric didn't want to constantly expend his spiritual energy during the exploration, which would cause his condition to decline. Anyway, Freya would take care of the cost of these perfumes, so he might as well use them.
At seven o'clock in the evening, he arrived on time at the "Carpenter Hotel" that Freya had mentioned in a horse-drawn carriage, and saw two beautiful ladies with good figures and different styles standing at the entrance.
Perhaps it was because of Edric's distinctly different skin color that Freya recognized him immediately—the helper she had just found the night before. She pulled Solana aside and went to greet him, then took the initiative to introduce them:
"This is Mr. Edric, the key player I carefully selected last night, a gentleman with extensive knowledge of the necromantic field."
"This is Solana, my good friend, who knows quite a bit about that castle."
"This isn't the right place to talk. Why don't we set off first and chat as we walk?"
Seeing that neither Edric nor Solana objected, Freya had the coachman, who had been waiting in the wings, drive the carriage forward. The group boarded the carriage and headed towards the southwestern outskirts of Backlund with a clear goal in mind.
Inside the carriage, Edric and the two women stared at each other, unsure where to begin their conversation. Finally, Freya stepped forward.
She first sprinkled medicinal powder, sealing the entire carriage with a spiritual wall, before sitting back down next to Solana and whispering:
"Um... Solana, why don't you tell Edric about the castle first, such as what era it's from, what style it has, and so on."
Solana was about the same age as Klein's sister Melissa. Edric could clearly see that the little one was a bit nervous. After taking two deep breaths, Solana finally calmed down and said seriously:
"The castle has a very distinctive architectural style with many asymmetrical structures, making it a typical Quaternary relic. It slowly sank more than 100 meters underground due to fault subsidence and strata folding. Seventy percent of the main structure is covered by rock layers, clay, and groundwater, with only a small part of the building exposed in the fissures of underground cavities."
"Its main structure is a multi-story stone-built courtyard castle, constructed with large blocks of granite and limestone. As long as there is no large-scale earthquake, it is quite stable, so we don't need to worry about the load-bearing capacity."
"Besides the library, we also found the chapel, but unfortunately it was empty; there was nothing left."
Edric nodded, then asked, "Have you explored the main part? The part that's sealed off by rock layers, clay, and groundwater?"
"No." Solana shook her head honestly. She was focused on the library and wanted to catch the "human skin scroll" as soon as possible to complete her uncle's mission. How could she waste time cleaning up those stones, mud and groundwater?
Edric didn't delve into the question further, but instead turned to Solana and asked:
"If you were to judge, what do you think caused this castle to sink underground? Was it simply due to geological activity, or was it unfortunately affected by extraordinary forces?"
Solana frowned and thought carefully for a while, then said frankly:
"It looks like it sank too far underground because of geological activity, but judging from the neatly arranged books in the library, it's quite possible that it sank underground due to the influence of extraordinary abilities."
Edric's eyes flickered slightly, and he continued to ask:
"I'm not familiar with the structure of this castle. If the castle owner wanted to set up a treasure room, where would it likely be located?"
"You mean..." Solana paused for a moment, then said with delight, "If it's not in the library, then it must be near the bedroom, in the main structure surrounded by groundwater."
"Although Freya and I call the library we've explored the 'first floor,' we entered the castle from top to bottom. If we had entered in the normal way, then the current 'first floor' would actually be the 'third floor.'"
"There, we only found many undead creatures and some occult materials, but no 'treasures' whatsoever! Not even the slightest trace of them!"
Freya, standing nearby, was also thrilled, but she quickly calmed down and poured cold water on Solana's enthusiasm:
"Sorana, calm down. It's been too long, and if the castle really did sink underground by human hands, that extraordinary person would definitely not have given up looting the spoils. They might not even have found a few gold coins."
"I was just too excited." Solana shrank back into her seat, embarrassed, and gave Freya a silly smile.
In reality, she wasn't short of money. The reason she crafted extraordinary weapons and entrusted them to Freya to sell at various parties was not only to hone her skills in advance, but also to help Freya, who was very kind to her, in this way.
When she first heard that the castle owner might have some "treasures," Solana's first thought wasn't what she could gain, but rather that Freya could make another fortune.
—Don't be fooled by the fact that Freya earns a lot of gold pounds from selling those extraordinary weapons. She also needs to frequently buy extraordinary materials to provide for Solana to forge weapons, and she also has to pay for Solana's technology. In reality, she only earns hard-earned money as a gofer. Her savings in Backlund Bank are even less than Edric's.
Freya shifted her body, feeling inexplicably uncomfortable. It wasn't because of Solana's undisguised kindness—their relationship was already incredibly deep—but because something about today was different from usual.
Meanwhile, Edric, sitting opposite them, was watching with great interest. He hadn't expected to see such a show on the way to the ruins. It was a pity that Mrs. Wendy's sweet iced tea couldn't be bought in Backlund, otherwise he would have really wanted a cup.
Freya suddenly remembered something and froze. She carefully and slowly moved her gaze upwards, only to meet Edric's gaze.
Looking at the other person's strange expression, which seemed tense yet about to burst into laughter, the beautiful "lawyer" suddenly felt a little suffocated.
At least at this moment, she was acutely aware that language was pale and powerless, and could not help her in her current predicament.
