I opened a clinic in the Abyss World
Chapter 27 The All-Purpose Earthen Stove
Vivian changed into a new dress and put on a new wig before coming downstairs.
The petite Vivian, dressed in a fitted gray dress and a black short wig with two cat ears peeking out from her hair, looked like an adorable kitten.
"As expected, only women truly understand women." Charlotte couldn't help but sigh as she looked at the dress that seemed tailor-made for Vivian.
Vivian spun around on the spot, her skirt fluttering, when suddenly her nose stung with tears.
She used to have several wardrobes full of beautiful dresses. She thought that entering the abyss was like entering hell. Unexpectedly, her former rival Charlotte became her boss, and she could even wear pretty little dresses.
Her mother is still waiting for her to rescue her in the prison in the capital. She must work hard to improve her strength and find someone who can help her.
Cromwell's power was so great that it inspired despair.
"What's wrong? Don't you like this dress?" Charlotte asked, noticing Vivian's low spirits.
"No... I like it very much." Vivian shook her head, forcing a smile. "Then I'll go make some medicine. I bought so many materials today, I can make more hemostatic medicine."
"Go ahead," Charlotte nodded.
Having risen to the status of a capitalist, he most admires employees who assign him tasks.
After fiddling around in the study for a while, Charlotte took two blueprints and went out again.
The streets of Bacca Street are more than ten meters wide, and the ground is paved with thick stone slabs. They are not exactly smooth, but they are wide enough for horse-drawn carriages to pass through.
The houses on both sides of the street are built with large black stones, which are found everywhere in the abyss. The black cliffs hundreds of meters high are made of this stone. The height of a single floor is generally about five meters, which can accommodate guests of most races.
Extremely high beings like Amos usually operate in open-air venues or businesses that cater specifically to very large individual customers.
Baka Street was relatively peaceful, but Charlotte remained extremely vigilant, her hand hidden under her sleeve, clutching the magic talisman, ready to be activated at any moment.
The commercial ecosystem on the street is very complete, and you can find everything you need for clothing, food, housing, and transportation.
However, the foot traffic was average, and there were no particularly famous shops.
The four major families controlled a region and collected rent from merchants as protection fees.
But the underlying logic of business remains the same: the better the location, the greater the flow of people, and the higher the rent on that street will naturally be.
However, if business is slow and there are few people on the street, there will be vacant shops and low rents.
Bacca Street is a mediocre business district; its customers are mostly local residents, and the shop owners can barely make ends meet without getting rich.
The rent is neither too high nor too low, just at a level that merchants can accept.
Carefully avoiding two street fights and passing by three thefts without a second glance, Charlotte arrived safely at the blacksmith's shop at the end of Bacca Street.
As soon as Charlotte stepped into the blacksmith's shop, a wave of heat hit her in the face, and the clanging of hammering metal made her eardrums ache.
"Boss!" Charlotte called out.
The sound of hammering stopped abruptly, and a short, stocky dwarf emerged from the forge carrying a large iron hammer almost as tall as himself.
"Dr. Charlotte!" Guy stepped forward in surprise. "What brings you here?"
"I need a set of cookware made," Charlotte said bluntly, pulling out her own drawings from her pocket and handing them to Guy.
Guy took the blueprints and looked at them, a puzzled expression on his face. He looked up at Charlotte and asked, "Why is this pot designed like this?"
Besides forging weapons, his blacksmith shop also takes on jobs making cookware and tools in his spare time.
But other people's pots are either deep pots with three legs at the bottom for burning, or pots with handles on the edge for hanging.
Charlotte's drawings, however, depicted an open pot, larger than the usual ones, neither deep nor shallow, without supporting legs or handles on the rim, which looked rather strange.
"This is my own design. It's a bit different from the common pots, and it needs to be used with this stove." Charlotte took out another drawing.
He wanted to build a traditional earthen stove, a versatile stove that could steam, stir-fry, pan-fry, and stew.
Surrounding the earthen stove, with chicken stewing in the pot, and then sticking a ring of steamed buns around the edge of the pot, the taste is simply unimaginable.
Harry stared at the blueprints for a long time, but still couldn't figure out the stove's peculiar shape. So he said, "I can make the pot for you according to the blueprints, but this stove... you'll probably have to find a stonemason to build it for you. There happens to be a stonemason's shop next door. I'll take you there and have him give you a cheap price."
"Thank you for your trouble." Charlotte nodded quickly.
Ten minutes later, Charlotte emerged from the stonemason's shop, accompanied by a dwarf stonemason, and returned to the clinic pulling a cartload of large black stones.
Charlotte first built a new stove in the alchemy room on the first floor so that he and Vivian could make medicine at the same time.
Then, in a corner room on the second floor, they built an earthen stove with the chimney facing inwards.
The project didn't look big, but the stonemason had never built a stove like this before. Charlotte supervised and made corrections, and it took a whole afternoon to finish.
Looking at the smooth, polished stovetop and the neatly constructed chimney, Charlotte nodded in satisfaction. Now all that was missing was Harry's big iron pot.
"Thanks for your hard work."
Charlotte paid the stonemason eight hundred copper coins, including labor and materials, which was a fair price.
Charlotte then went out and bought a few more pieces of furniture, including a shelf for storing miscellaneous items and condiments, a small square table, and two small wooden stools.
And just like that, the kitchen/dining room was starting to look quite decent.
If it weren't for the fact that the iron pot would take two more days to arrive, Charlotte would have liked to go out and buy some vegetables to cook herself a meat dish and a vegetable dish to try.
However, when Charlotte went out to buy furniture, she found that the general store was selling flour for ten copper coins a pound, which was almost the same price as meat. She bought a pound and then bought two and a half pounds of wild boar meat with fat and lean meat from the butcher shop.
Having had enough of dark bread, Charlotte decided to make a basket of steamed buns to improve her meals.
During his university years, he worked part-time at a steamed bun shop for a semester. He was very familiar with all the processes, from making dough to chopping filling, and was even once designated by the boss as the successor to the master chef.
The new alchemy pot hasn't been contaminated by anything strange yet; just put a few chopsticks on it, and it can be used to steam buns.
Lacking baking powder, he used purchased low-alcohol rice wine with sugar to ferment the flour, and the results were not bad.
A pot of thick soup was made from wild boar skin, which was then frozen into a jelly in a freezer used to store special medicines. The jelly was then cut into small cubes and wrapped in buns along with chopped half-fat and half-lean wild boar meat.
Even with limited resources, we still have to have soup dumplings!
Vivian was concocting a hemostatic potion while Charlotte was steaming buns on the newly built stove next to her.
"Boss, what's this? It's all white and plump?" Vivian stopped what she was doing and looked at McGonagall with curiosity as she smelled the aroma.
"Our dinner is soup dumplings," Charlotte said with a smile.
The petite Vivian, dressed in a fitted gray dress and a black short wig with two cat ears peeking out from her hair, looked like an adorable kitten.
