I opened a clinic in the Abyss World

Chapter 218 Resentful Mist

Charlotte took Martha back to the clinic first.

Vivian and Kasha were relieved to see that Martha had been healed.

"Boss, do I really want to become Master Adolf's apprentice?" Vivian asked softly.

"That's up to you to decide," Charlotte said with a smile.

After hesitating for a while, Vivian finally made up her mind and said, "I want to become your apprentice."

Charlotte nodded slightly. Adolf had already made a huge concession. Under the premise of ensuring that Vivian's identity would not be exposed, becoming Adolf's apprentice was obviously a great opportunity.

With Adolf's powerful backing, Vivian's growth rate will inevitably be faster than if she were just a junior assistant at the clinic.

There was a knock at the door, and Charlotte opened it to welcome the three of them in.

Adolf and Jacques entered, but they didn't rush to boast to Vivian or mention the matter of becoming her apprentices, clearly still somewhat wary of August.

"Where's the little lion?" August asked Martha eagerly as soon as he entered the room. He had skipped class today just to see the little lion.

Martha beckoned, and a small black cat emerged from under the cabinet, leaping into her arms. It warily watched everyone, and when its gaze fell on August, it acted as if it had encountered a terrifying natural enemy, desperately burrowing into Martha's embrace.

"Interesting. It is indeed a composite of undead monsters, but it also has obvious signs of life. It should be related to what is being conceived within you." August stepped forward with a look of surprise and reached out to grab the black cat in Martha's arms. "Let me see what this little thing is."

"roar!"

The little black cat shrank back and landed on the ground, transforming into a black male lion over two meters tall. It leaned forward, shielding Martha behind it, and stared at August with hostility.

Clearly, it sensed a strong sense of danger from August and believed that he might harm Martha, so it prepared for battle.

"Wow, this black lion is really nice."

August stopped and looked at the majestic black lion before him, his eyes filled with amazement.

Unlike the undead puppets he had seen before, this black lion was full of spiritual energy and had almost no resentment on its body.

This also proves that Martha was not lying before. Although she was forced to become a necromancer, she did not maliciously harm people or refine undead in order to become stronger. She only refined the undead of the monsters she encountered.

This is truly a breath of fresh air among necromancers.

"Hei Zi, this is the person who saved my life, step back," Martha said softly.

The black lion whimpered and transformed back into a little black cat, hiding back in Martha's arms, though its gaze toward August still held a hint of wariness.

"Let me reintroduce myself. I am August, a professor at the Calva Magic Academy, a light mage, and I have been dedicated to studying the effects of light magic on the undead and curses for many years." August extended his hand to Martha in a gentlemanly manner.

"Hello." Martha gently shook his hand.

"You and this little lion are both very interesting. I even think that Holy Light wouldn't be enough to completely eliminate it. It's completely different from ordinary undead puppets." August said with a smile, "The academy will be on holiday soon. When we have some free time, we might be able to have an in-depth discussion about how you absorb undead magical beasts. There's still no research on that."

Martha didn't quite understand what the professor was saying, but she still nodded in agreement.

"Uncle August, it's not easy for you to come all the way to the Abyss. I have another employee here who has also been cursed. You're an expert in this area, so please take a look." Seeing that he was about to leave, Charlotte quickly stepped forward and grabbed his hand, while beckoning to Kasha: "Kasha, come here."

"A sea creature fishman?" August looked at Kasha, equally surprised.

Even in Kalva, merfolk are still extremely rare. Sea creatures do not like to live on land, and even when trading with land-dwelling races, they mostly do so by the sea.

Kasha stepped forward nervously, but there was also a hint of expectation in her eyes. Perhaps this powerful light mage could really remove the curse from her body.

"Let me see your hand," August said.

Kasha extended her hand.

August extended his finger and gently touched the back of her hand, a ray of golden light falling onto her hand.

A dark red mark suddenly appeared, swallowing the golden light.

Kaisa recoiled as if pricked by a needle, her hand turning bright red, tears welling in her eyes from the pain.

"This curse is rather strange." August's expression turned solemn. He stepped forward, grabbed Kasha's hand, and carefully examined the back of her hand. A faint golden light shone from his fingertips again, slowly touching the back of her hand.

The dark red mark reappeared, but this time the reaction was smaller, and some ghostly shadows could be vaguely seen.

"Red Moon, this curse seems to be related to Red Moon?" August released Kassa's hand, his brows furrowed.

Adolf pondered, "It's related to the Red Moon... Could it be a demonic curse?"

"No, if it were a demonic curse, it would definitely activate on the night of the Red Moon. Moreover, only a few necromancers wield that curse; most magical beasts become demonic due to triggers." August shook his head, scrutinizing Kasha as he asked, "How did you get this curse? What were your symptoms?"

Kasha glanced at Charlotte, and after he nodded, she said, "More than a year ago, I encountered a black mist at the bottom of the sea and then fell into a coma. When I woke up, I was in the sewers of the abyss. Since then, seawater has corroded my skin, I can no longer return to the sea, and I am gradually losing the ability to survive on land. Last month, I started to have difficulty breathing."

"This curse is truly vicious. Preventing a fish-woman from returning to the sea is no different from killing her," Jacques remarked.

"Moreover, this curse is also killing her ability to survive on land." Adolf sighed. He thought of someone, Lucian's grandson. The little guy had brought a mermaid girl to him two years ago, begging him to save her. Unfortunately, he tried many methods but to no avail. He wondered how she was doing now. The sea creatures encountering this strange black mist was not an isolated case.

"Black mist, that's probably a black version of the Mist of Resentment." August's expression also became extremely solemn.

"The cursed mist? What is that?" Charlotte asked immediately. He had heard about the cursed mist from the witch, so it seemed that this kind of mist also existed on land.

"After the appearance of the Red Moon Night, black mists of varying sizes, formed from resentment, appeared in certain parts of the Aesop Continent. Any living thing that enters this black mist will die, and a small number of survivors will undergo some strange changes, as if they are cursed," August explained, his brows furrowed. "I didn't expect that resentment mists would also appear in the deep sea."
