Chapter 204 Encounter with the Utu Mercenary Group

The journey over mountains and valleys went relatively smoothly; they did not encounter any terrifying monsters or other adventurers.

To ensure their safety, Jonah led them on a detour, avoiding areas where monsters frequently appeared.

"This is a rock snake, a very common snake in the wilderness. It's highly venomous; one bite and you're dead." Jonah, who was walking ahead, suddenly reached out and grabbed the side of a rock, and caught a two-meter-long snake in his hand.

The snake was as thick as an adult's arm, a dark gray color that was almost identical to the stone next to it. If Jonah hadn't caught it, Charlotte wouldn't have even noticed that such a large snake was hiding in the crevice of the rock.

The giant serpent had a triangular head, its mouth open to reveal sharp teeth, and its body, as thick as an adult's arm, coiled around Jonah.

Jonah remained calm, took a thin rope from his waist with one hand, wrapped it around the snake's head a few times, and tied it up. With his other hand, he grabbed the snake's tail, tied a knot haphazardly, and stuffed the whole snake into the large cloth bag at his waist.

It doesn't look very professional, but it doesn't seem to have any problems either. Anyway, the rock snake has been captured.

"Although it's not a magical beast, you can still sell it for five or six hundred copper coins if you bring it back. Some people will buy it to make wine," Jonah explained.

Charlotte nodded thoughtfully. Gathering and capturing things along the way that could be exchanged for money was the survival wisdom of low-level adventurers like Jonah.

The Meteor Rat is today's target, but that thing is very clever and agile, and even if we get to Giant Rock Valley, we might not be able to catch it.

But this rock snake is worth five or six hundred copper coins. If we catch it, today's trip won't have been in vain.

call out!

Suddenly, Celia, who was walking behind Charlotte, raised her hand, and the silver spear turned into a streak of light, flying through the bushes with a whistling sound. Celia's figure also rushed out like a nimble cheetah.

A short while later, she returned carrying a spear with a large, fat rabbit, weighing over ten kilograms, impaled on it. The rabbit had long, smooth, gray fur.

"Hehe, dinner's sorted out for tonight." Jonah grinned, quite pleased with Celia's prey.

"This long-haired rabbit is so plump, and its fur is quite nice. It should sell for around a hundred copper coins." Celia smiled as she took the rabbit off the spear and handed it to Jonah.

Charlotte watched Jonah skillfully stuff the rabbit into the package hanging from his waist, raising an eyebrow slightly. These two siblings really did adhere to the principle that even a mosquito's leg is meat.

"Let's go, climb two more mountains and cross a canyon, and we'll reach Giant Stone Valley." Having made some progress, the three continued their journey, starting their climb towards the mountain ahead.

On the way, Celia hunted two more rabbits, skinned them skillfully, and discarded the rabbit meat because it was inconvenient to carry it away.

What a fat rabbit! It just fattened up for autumn; it's all meat.

Charlotte, adhering to the principle of not wasting food, quietly put them into her spatial ring.

He has dinner sorted out for tonight.

"Space rings are so convenient. When I have money, I'll definitely buy one too." Jonah looked at the ring on Charlotte's hand with envy, and suddenly felt that the big bag hanging on his waist wasn't so appealing anymore.

"Yes, it's so convenient." Celia also looked at Charlotte's ring with some envy.

When the brother and sister ventured into the wilderness, especially during a good harvest season, they would carry large and small bags on their shoulders, which not only easily attracted trouble but also severely limited their vision and movement.

If you have a spatial ring, you can hide all your loot and avoid having to discard things that you can't take with you.

"When you have money, buy a bigger one. Mine is only 1m³, it'll be full after you put in a few things." Charlotte wasn't worried about the siblings attacking him, because the two of them combined couldn't beat him.

"That would take a long time to save up that much money," Jonah said, somewhat worried.

"What's the big deal? We'll save it up slowly," Celia said optimistically, not taking it seriously at all.

The three continued on their journey, catching some prey, which put the brother and sister in good spirits.

Charlotte had been hoping to encounter some level three or four magical beasts, giving him a chance to practice.

So far, they haven't even encountered a single level one magical beast.

The most ferocious of them all was the rock serpent that Jonah caught.

The adventurers' experience was right; it's actually very difficult to encounter genuine magical beasts on the outskirts of the wilderness. This place has been searched countless times by adventurers from Kalva and the Abyss, so even if there were any, it wouldn't be his turn.

"The Valley of Giant Rocks is just ahead. Be careful, everyone. Last time I passed by, I found the footprints of a large magical beast. There might be magical beasts lurking in this area." Jonah suddenly stopped and pointed ahead with a serious expression.

Charlotte looked up and saw a large canyon about a kilometer ahead.

On both sides are towering cliffs hundreds of meters high, and in the middle of the canyon, there are strange rocks and irregular huge stone pillars that are tens or hundreds of meters high. Many of them have been weathered and broken, and they lie across the canyon, making the structure very complex. This is how the Giant Stone Valley got its name.

"Brother, I'll go set up the traps later. You're in charge of finding the meteor rats and driving them out," Celia said eagerly.

"No problem." Jonah nodded, then said to Charlotte, "Doctor, I'll find you a safe place to stay later. Although the Meteor Rat isn't very aggressive, it's still a magical beast, so it's better to be careful."

"Okay." Charlotte nodded, not wanting to cause trouble for the siblings.

Giant Rock Valley is located in a remote area, and there are no valuable resources nearby, so very few adventurers venture here.

The crevices and caves formed by the collapse of the boulders became the natural habitat of the meteor mouse.

Jonah led the way into the Valley of Giant Rocks, with Charlotte close behind, scanning the surroundings warily. If any magical beasts were to hide behind the giant rocks and launch an attack, he could spot them immediately and take cover.

Celia followed behind, already taking out a rope to prepare to set a trap.

The best way to capture meteor rats without harming them is naturally to set traps.

Jonah is a powerful orc, and although Celia is agile, she still has a hard time catching the flying meteor rat in this complicated terrain.

Charlotte didn't volunteer, but if the brother and sister couldn't catch them, he could help them catch two.

Even if the first-level Meteor Rat is fast, can it outrun him?

As the three entered the Valley of Giant Rocks, the towering boulders made them feel even smaller. Weathering and flowing water had smoothed these stone pillars, making them look as if they had been deliberately erected there, a testament to the amazing craftsmanship of nature.

Jonah led them through the crevices of the giant rocks, and the further they went, the darker it became and the colder it grew.

"Look, that's the hole of the Meteor Rat." Jonah suddenly stopped and pointed to a black hole in a stone pillar in front of him.

"Shall we go and search?" Charlotte suggested.

"That won't work. These things have very hard teeth. They've already dug intricate tunnels inside these stone pillars. You won't be able to reach anything with your hand; you might even get bitten." Jonah shook his head.

"How do we catch it?" Charlotte asked curiously.

Jonah said, “Block the other entrances, leaving only two. Set a trap in one entrance and pour smoke into the other to smoke them out.”

This method is a bit underhanded, but it sounds like a viable option.

"Then let's start with this pillar." Jonah walked toward the pillar, taking out a fire-starting tool from the cloth bag at his waist.

"I'll set the trap." Celia slung the spear back onto her back, took a rope in her hand, and walked toward the hole.

Charlotte didn't want to participate in their hunt, so she found a clean, open space and looked around.

It took them more than two hours to get here; the sunlight was shining on half of the cliff face, but had not yet reached the bottom of the canyon.

Celia set up a complicated rope trap at the entrance of the cave, so that as long as the Meteor Rat darted out of it, it would crash into the net and be unable to escape.

Jonah had already blocked the other entrances to the cave. He went around to the back, stuffed some dry grass into the cave, added a handful of damp leaves, lit a fire, and then took the hollow bamboo tube and blew hard into it.

Black smoke immediately rose up, half of it drifting into the sky, while the other half was blown into the cave by Jonah.

"This smoke..." Charlotte looked up at the smoke drifting into the sky, feeling a little uneasy. Wouldn't this cause trouble?

"Don't worry, the smoke dissipated before it even reached the cliff, so no one outside will see it," Celia said with a smile, noticing Charlotte's concern as she waited patiently by the side after setting up the trap.

Charlotte felt something was off, but since Celia had already said so, she didn't say anything more.

However, just a few hundred meters ahead in this giant rock valley, a group of orcs spotted the smoke.

The leader was an extremely burly black bear-man with a scar near his eye, making him look quite ferocious.

There were three werewolves crouching beside him.

Not far in front of them, on the cliff face, grew a tree covered with white spots. At the top of the tree grew a red fruit the size of a fist, with six stars on the fruit and another star forming at the tail.

"Boss! It looks like someone's coming up ahead! They're setting off smoke, could they be calling for reinforcements?" a werewolf whispered.

"We've been waiting here for three days and haven't seen a single person. Unless they also know that there's a Seven Star Fruit growing here, why would they come to such a remote place? Let's go take a look." The other two werewolves also looked nervous.

"Don't panic, the Seven Star Fruit will be ripe soon. Let's go check the situation first. If they're just passing by, then let it go. But if they're also after the Seven Star Fruit, don't blame our Utu Mercenary Group for being ruthless." Utu grinned, revealing a set of dark brown sharp teeth, and got up to walk towards the direction where the smoke was rising.

"Let's surround them." The other three werewolves followed suit, and with great tacit understanding, they moved in three directions to surround the smoke, intending to cut off the enemy's retreat.

Before long, the Utu mercenary group approached the source of the smoke and hid behind two huge rocks.

"Looks like they're here to capture the Meteor Rat. There's a level 3 orc, a level 2 orc, an ordinary human, and a small team of adventurers with low strength," the werewolf beside Utu reported in a low voice.

"Hehe, that little vixen is really something. I've been squatting in this godforsaken place for three days, and I never expected to have this kind of fun delivered to my door. Anyway, I still have to wait here for a while, so I'll grab her and play with her to kill some time." Utu stared at Celia, the alluring figure hidden under her animal skin bodice and short skirt making him a little restless.

"Wait here, we'll go and bring her to you right away." The werewolf understood and immediately jumped onto a boulder, tilting his head back and letting out a long howl.

Meanwhile, the werewolves from the other two directions emerged from the side, took their positions, and surrounded Charlotte and her two companions, staring at the three people below who were blowing smoke around the stone pillar.

"Brother!" Celia grabbed the silver spear on her back, looking warily at the three werewolves that had suddenly appeared.

"Cough cough cough..." Jonah, who was startled by the wolf howl and gasped for breath, quickly dropped the bamboo tube in his hand, looked up at the three werewolves surrounding them, subconsciously clenched his fist, and his face was also not very good.

Three level-three orcs, and werewolves who are among the fastest and most powerful orcs.

"You're really unlucky to have met us." A black bear-like beastman, over three meters tall, emerged from behind a boulder and looked at the three with a mocking expression.

"A level four black bear orc!" Jonah's expression changed drastically. If three werewolves were enough to make him despair, then this powerful level four black bear orc completely shattered his will to resist.

"My lord, we were just passing through and we don't know how we offended you. Please forgive us, we will leave immediately," Jonah said tentatively, taking two steps back to shield Celia and Charlotte behind him.

"Leave?" Utu grinned. "None of you will leave this Giant Stone Valley today."

"We can offer all our possessions, we just hope you will let us leave," Jonah said through gritted teeth, while gesturing to Celia with his hands behind his back.

"Doctor, just run out of the canyon and back to the Abyss via the same route we came from this morning. We'll hold them off for you," Celia said softly.

Charlotte glanced at her; Jonah's gesture clearly indicated that they should go together, while he would cover their retreat.
