Extreme Frontier Army: Starting from the bottom ranks, conquering the chaotic world

Chapter 2: Is this man mentally ill, demanding an official position with his head in hand?

"That old dog Wang is so damn slow! Why does it take him this long to deal with this pretty boy?"

At the hour of Hai (9-11 PM), the wind and snow were as sharp as knives.

The central tent of the 8th Battalion of the Northern Xuan Army, the tent of a hundred households.

Inside the tent, two large charcoal braziers were burning, and the mutton was sizzling as it roasted.

Commander Zhao He leaned back in his tiger-skin chair, holding a bowl of strong liquor in his hand.

Four fully armed guards stood on either side, with standard-issue long swords at their waists and their eyes were alert.

Zhao He took a swig of wine and slammed the bowl on the table.

He took a liking to the newly assigned female criminal and specifically asked Wang Laogou to deal with Lu Jing.

The Great Yan army had strict rules, and directly seizing the wives of subordinates would easily give them cause for criticism. Creating a "camp uprising" was the safest way.

Heavy footsteps and the sound of heavy objects being dragged could be heard outside the tent.

"Who goes there!" the two guards standing outside the tent shouted sternly.

In the wind and snow, the guards first saw Wang Laogou's blood-soaked corpse.

The two guards were taken aback.

Lu Jing released the corpse's legs and suddenly darted up, his body pressed against the corpse's shadow.

The knife handle struck his throat, and his knee slammed into his abdomen.

Two dull thuds sounded as people fell to the ground.

Zhao He frowned and subconsciously gripped the knife handle on the table.

Four guards immediately drew their long swords and stood in front of him.

The tent flap was pulled open by a blood-stained hand.

Lu Jing walked in, wrapped in a dirty cotton-padded coat that clearly didn't fit him.

He held a horizontal sword in his left hand and dragged up a thigh with his right.

The owner of that thigh was none other than Wang Laogou, whom Zhao He had been waiting for.

There was a horrifying bloody hole in his neck, and he had bled to death, looking like a tattered sack.

Lu Jing casually tossed the corpse next to the charcoal brazier in the center of the tent.

In the shadows outside the tent, Shen Qingqiu covered her mouth with both hands as she watched this scene.

She felt that Lu Jing would be hacked to death at any moment.

He crouched to the side and back of the tent, and quietly pulled out the dagger from his sleeve.

Patrolmen nearby seemed to have heard the commotion and came over with torches in hand.

Shen Qingqiu gritted his teeth, grabbed a handful of snow, and threw it at the wooden stake on the other side.

The patrolman turned his head, cursing, and the torch followed suit.

Zhao He stared blankly at the corpse.

Having spent half my life in the military and seen countless desperate criminals, I've never seen a madman who dared to carry a squad leader's corpse directly into a centurion's tent before.

"Who the hell are you?" Zhao He gripped the hilt of his knife tightly, the veins on the back of his hand bulging.

Lu Jing sniffed, his gaze falling on the roasted lamb leg on the table.

My stomach, quite fittingly, let out a thunderous protest.

He ignored the four long knives pointing at him, walked straight to the table, tore off a large piece of roasted mutton, and stuffed it into his mouth to chew.

I muttered to myself, "I didn't put enough cumin; it's a bit gamey."

He mumbled indistinctly, "It's delicious, but there weren't enough spices; it's too gamey."

"You're asking for death!" A guard roared in fury, stepped forward, and swung his long sword down at Lu Jing's neck with a whoosh.

Lu Jing flipped his sword horizontally with his left hand, the back of the blade facing upwards to parry.

The back of the horizontal blade precisely blocked the soldier's point of force, and the soldier felt a sharp pain in his hand, almost dropping the long sword.

Lu Jing kicked out with his right foot, hitting the edge of the charcoal brazier squarely.

A large cloud of scorching hot coals and ashes, mixed with sparks, rushed towards the guard.

The guard screamed and retreated, covering his face.

Lu Jing's trouser leg was also scorched by a spark, and a burning pain shot through his calf.

His eye twitched, and he cursed under his breath.

This wretched place doesn't even have a decent pair of boots.

Seeing this, the other three guards roared and rushed forward at the same time.

Lu Jing swallowed the mutton in his mouth, his eyes turning cold.

To charge headlong into a blade was, in the eyes of the ancients, a death wish.

His footwork was unusually strange; he positioned himself in the blind spot of the two attackers and sidestepped a slash from the left.

The third guard reacted faster than expected, the blade grazing his cheek.

A faint line of blood appeared on his face, and a few strands of hair were cut off.

Lu Jing's eyes grew even colder. He grabbed the wrist of the guard on his right with his right hand, using the force against him, and pulled him forward sharply.

The guard lost his balance and crashed headfirst into the back of the sword of the guard next to him, the two of them colliding.

He seized one of the men's long knives, reversed the hilt, and slammed it heavily onto the back of the other man's head.

The sound of bones cracking rang out, and the two collapsed to the ground simultaneously.

Just as the last guard was about to draw his sword, Lu Jing was already right in front of him.

His shoulder slammed into his chest, and his knee struck his lower abdomen.

The guard groaned and bent over. Lu Jing grabbed his hair and pressed him against the edge of the table.

The whole process took less than three breaths.

The three well-trained guards, aside from leaving a bloody line on Lu Jing's face, didn't even manage to grab the hem of his clothes before collapsing.

The remaining soldier, who was still covering his face, was wailing. Lu Jing walked over and stomped on his ankle, crushing it.

The scream suddenly rose eight octaves, and then he fainted from the pain.

Zhao He sat in the chair, cold sweat beading on his forehead.

The young man in front of them didn't understand any internal energy cultivation techniques at all; he only used the most direct and ruthless killing methods.

Every strike is aimed at destroying the human body structure; there are no unnecessary movements.

This guy isn't some lowly soldier exiled from the underworld; he's practically a living Yama who crawled out of hell!

Lu Jing threw the long knife he had seized on the ground, wiped the grease from his mouth with his sleeve, looked directly at Zhao He, and spoke in a flat tone.

"Lord Centurion, you have been frightened. Your subordinate is Lu Jing, a new recruit from the Eighth Battalion."

Zhao He roared, his voice stern yet betraying his fear: "Lu Jing! You murdered your superior, broke into the military tent at night, and injured your personal guards. According to the law, you deserve to be executed! Do you think you can walk out of this gate alive just because of your skills?!"

Lu Jing sighed, walked to Wang Laogou's corpse, and kicked the head with his toe.

"My lord, you are wise. I was trying to save your life."

"Bullshit!" Zhao He cursed angrily.

Lu Jing abandoned his casual attitude, straightened his back, and exuded the oppressive aura of a special forces instructor interrogating prisoners.

"Old Wang is a spy planted in the camp by the northern barbarians."

Zhao He was stunned for a moment, then burst into a tirade: "Nonsense! Old dog Wang has been with me for three years, what kind of spy is he!"

Lu Jing took two steps closer: "My lord, let me think about this."

"Half an hour ago, Old Wang and his men sneaked into my tent with malicious intent. I'm just a new recruit, penniless and without any enemies. Why would he want to kill me?"

Zhao He cursed inwardly, "Isn't it because I ordered him to kill you!"

But he couldn't say it, because if he did, it would be considered a secret exchange and a violation of military discipline.

Lu Jing continued to unleash his modern, argumentative logic.

"Not for money, not for women, yet they insisted on killing a loyal guard of the Great Yan Dynasty. What does that say?"

"This shows he hates the border troops of the Great Yan!"

Why does he hate the border troops? Because his heart is with the northern barbarians!

"A spy, lying in wait for three years, suddenly made his move tonight. It must be to create a commotion within the camp, coordinating with the Northern Barbarian army from within to take your head!"

"My subordinate fought desperately, beheading this spy and saving your head, sir. Isn't that a great achievement?"

This combo left Zhao He's face turning pale and then red.

The logic is fragmented, but the accusations are extremely exaggerated.

In this border region where human life is as cheap as grass, treason is a heinous crime punishable by the extermination of nine generations of one's family; even the slightest hint of it will result in certain death.

Zhao He knew, of course, that Lu Jing was talking nonsense.

The problem is, knowing this is one thing, but right now all four of his personal guards are useless, and the knife is still in Lu Jing's hand.

His fingers slowly reached under the table, where a short blade was hidden.

Lu Jing seemed not to see him, only glancing at him briefly.

That glance was both calm and sharp.

Zhao He's fingers finally loosened little by little.

If he turns hostile, this madman would definitely dare to chop himself up with a knife.

He then added the label of "the spy chief was caught by his subordinates, and his attempt to silence them backfired and he was killed instead."

The dead can't speak, but the living can make things up however they want.

"What...what do you want?"

Lu Jing straightened up, a kind smile on his face.

"Old Wang was a spy, and his squad leader position is now vacant. My subordinate has rendered meritorious service by killing the spy; promoting him to squad leader isn't unreasonable, is it?"

Zhao He gritted his teeth and demanded an official position!

This madman broke in in the middle of the night and hacked down a bunch of people, all for the sake of getting a squad leader position!

"Fine...fine! Very well!" Zhao He laughed in exasperation.

He pulled out a bronze plaque representing a squad leader from under the table and slapped it on the table.

"From today onwards, you are the squad leader of the 3rd Squad of the 8th Battalion! All the remaining men under Wang Laogou are under your command!"

Lu Jing grabbed the bronze medal without hesitation and stuffed it into his pocket.

"Thank you for your guidance, sir. You are not only wise and powerful, but also generous and dignified. Your subordinate swears to serve you to the death."

He swore to be loyal to the death, but instead of helping, he grabbed a large piece of roasted mutton and strode out of the tent.

"By the way, sir, could you please settle the bill for these brothers' medicine? They seem quite badly injured and will probably need to rest for ten days to two weeks."

Zhao He was so angry that he almost overturned the table and grabbed a wine bowl, smashing it on the ground.

"Get out! Get the hell out of here!"

Lu Jing walked out of the tent with a loud laugh.

Zhao He stared in the direction Lu Jing had left, a sinister murderous intent flashing in his eyes.

A mere recruit from a sergeant battalion dared to ride roughshod over him.

This score won't just be settled like this.

Outside the tent, Shen Qingqiu was shivering from the cold. When she saw Lu Jing walk out unharmed, holding a bronze badge that represented his military officer status, she was completely dumbfounded.

Not only did this person not die, he actually managed to get an official position?

The military regulations of the Great Yan Dynasty were a joke in the face of this madman.

Lu Jing tossed the oily mutton to Shen Qingqiu: "Eat. You'll have the strength to run away if you're full."

Shen Qingqiu caught it in a flurry, not even bothering to brush off the dust, and wolfed it down.

Halfway through the meal, his gaze fell on the blood streaks on Lu Jing's face and the blackened cuffs of his trousers.

You are injured.

"Just a scrape." Lu Jing touched his face. "It's not a big deal. At least we didn't lose money; we even got a bronze medal."

Shen Qingqiu didn't understand what it meant to lose money on the purchase, so she could only hug the mutton in her hands tightly and silently move closer to him.

Just then.

"Waaaaah...waaaah...waaaah..."

A deep, desolate bugle call resounded through the night sky, piercing through the heavy wind and snow.

The ground began to tremble slightly.

The sound of cavalry hooves charging.

Three long bugle calls signaled the highest level of enemy attack in the Great Yan army.

Lu Jing stopped and looked at the dark night sky in the north, his eyebrows slightly raised.

The northern barbarians have really invaded.

The lie I just made up has actually come true.

The camp was thrown into chaos. Torches were lit one after another, and shouts and the clash of weapons filled the air.

The messenger rode a fast horse at breakneck speed through the camp, shouting at the top of his lungs.

"Enemy attack! The Northern Barbarians have breached the pass!"

"Eighth Infantry Battalion, listen to my command! Assemble the entire battalion! As the vanguard, charge into the enemy lines immediately! Anyone who retreats will be executed!"

The fate of the cannon fodder battalion was to use their flesh and blood to wear down the enemy's morale.

Shen Qingqiu had just swallowed a mouthful of mutton when he heard the messenger's shout, and his face turned pale.

Soldiers charging into battle faced certain death.

Lu Jing looked down at the bronze plaque in his hand and cursed.

"I just became a corporal, I haven't even warmed my seat, and you're already sending me to fill in the gaps?"

He drew the captured longsword, its blade gleaming coldly in the night.

My gaze swept northward, the sound of horns grew closer, and faint flames flickered deep within the snow.

"Come on, I'll take you to buy some goods."

Shen Qingqiu was stunned for a moment, not understanding what those two words meant.

But seeing Lu Jing walk forward with his knife, she gritted her teeth, picked up the mutton from the snow, and quickly followed him.
