Witch Hunter Rhapsody

Chapter 60 Questioning

"Are you ready?"

Raphael asked Maximus.

By this time, both of them had changed into their wizard robes. Ordinary wizard robes are simply clothing, without any other additional functions.

What makes this robe truly unique is its ability to hold more than one can imagine.

"Ready."

"Did you bring your staff?"

"Two lightning staves, a fire stave, a Wink Magic Flash Bow ring, and the Thorn Ring you gave me. With these, I should be able to hold out until you cast your spell."

Raphael made the final confirmation.

Your friend doesn't know I exist.

"At most, he knows that a wizard stole Alistair's body, but he couldn't possibly know that you exist."

Raphael still felt it was very unreliable, but now that things had come to this point, he could only deal with it seriously.

"Where are your other classmates? Logically, they should come and help too!"

"I'm sorry, our actions are governed by rules. I already expended too many resources when I set out, and my teacher and my school cannot send another person."

Maximus was unsure whether to envy his school's support or criticize his school for providing support but not full support.

"That's why I'm asking for your help. Are you sure your subordinate really found what we need?"

"That's what he said, and I don't think he had any reason to lie to us."

"How is the man we sent over doing?"

"I don't know, my spell failed, damn it."

It's probably just that the quality of the spell is not up to par, right? Even if a long-range link spell fails due to distance, it's normal for the spell to resume functioning after returning to the city.

Of course, it's also possible that the man died.

Maximus may not have considered this, and Raphael secretly made further preparations for battle.

A portal opened in front of the two of them.

"Let's go."

"Maximus, be careful. I don't want any unexpected accidents to happen at this final step."

……

The meeting place was outside the city.

Maximus was worried that Vitas would arrange a meeting in the city.

No one knows what methods Vitas used. No one knows why he was able to kill Viya alone and retrieve the two rare materials he needed.

Maximus even suspects that Vitas actually has a fairly strong team, but only presents himself as a single person to the public.

If that's the case, then Maximus would rather die than meet Vitas in the city.

He also brought along several of his subordinates.

These subordinates are actually manufactured servants. Their tongues are cut off, their brains are destroyed, and magic circles are engraved on them. They can be used as experimental materials, servants, and shields.

Raphael was also very interested in these two things.

"Is this your undead?"

"No, it's a living thing."

"Bio-organisms? Why not use necromancers? Necromancers are durable, obedient, unafraid of death, and can withstand unexpected attacks. No matter how you look at it, they are better than puppets made by living people."

"This is your necromancer's perspective."

"No, that's not the case. Actually, that's what the academic community thinks now. My teacher's generation spent many years and used countless necromancers to prove their durability..."

Seeing Raphael begin to display his academic enthusiasm, Maximus was really not interested.

"Alright, go hide now."

Raphael disappeared quickly, and Maximus then prepared himself, waiting for Vitas to appear.

He heard the iconic sound of armor hitting the ground, dull and slow.

However, due to Vitas's extraordinary height, even with a low stride frequency, he walks faster than the average person.

Maximus turned in that direction and saw Vitas coming.

He was wearing his armor.

The downside of meeting in the city is the possibility of being manipulated by Vitas, while the upside is that Vitas won't be wearing armor.

Outside the city, since it was a temporary location and could be easily detected with magic, there was no need to worry about being ambushed.

The downside is that you have to face Vitas.

To be honest, Maximus really didn't know whether facing Vitas alone was more terrifying, or facing the unarmored Vitas and his mercenaries was more terrifying.

"Vitas, you've arrived."

"Maximus, I've brought what you asked for."

"Then leave it to me."

"Before that, you need to explain something."

"Explain what?"

Vitas walked in, but Maximus' two subordinates blocked his way.

"Oh dear, you seem wary of me too. Well then, I'll just ask directly: why did you send Leon to my side?"

"Leon? You mean that guy? He admires you a lot, Vitas. I think we should grant his wish. By the way, Vitas, shortly after I met Leon, you activated a super-large magic circle, didn't you? Who prepared it for you?"

"What exactly is your purpose in sending Leon to my side?"

"I just wanted to see you, but I failed. By the way, did you really find the materials I needed?"

Vitas's expression worsened.

Damn, so magic isn't all-powerful after all? Wait a minute, when did Maximus become capable of analyzing spells like this? Wasn't he supposed to be an ignorant and incompetent person?

Could it be that Maximus has someone else behind him besides Alistair?

It's strange, it seems like my relationship with Draco is getting further and further away.

Damn it, can I really win?

Vitas's feelings were complicated as he looked at Maximus.

"Is the money ready?"

As he spoke, he took out the transparent box from his hand.

Maximus used a scouting spell and confirmed that these were indeed the two materials he needed.

Sure enough, this guy is incredibly powerful.

Maximus nodded and took out a bag as well. It was heavy and made a dull sound when shaken.

There's no doubt it's filled with money.

"It just so happens that your two puppet subordinates are here too. Let's make an exchange."

Vitas extended his hand.

Although Maximus's two subordinates were merely puppets, they could still sometimes hinder his performance.

Given that Maximus might have other helpers, Vitas didn't want to use his abilities at the outset.

"very good."

Vitas placed his other hand on the hilt of his sword, staring at Maximus's subordinate.

Vitas felt this was a good opportunity to make a move.

"Solo's Entangling Vines!"

Countless vines that sprouted from the soil instantly entangled Vitas.

However, a moment later, Vitas used his superhuman strength to tear off several vines.

However, the vines did not grow in just one wave. A second and third wave of vines followed one after another. Before Maximus could react, Raphael had already started shouting.

"Hurry up, we just need the materials. Damn it, you're not really going to give him that much gold, are you?!"

Maximus was dumbfounded.

"Are you an idiot? He's already in front of me!"

A ring made of brambles.

A ring of thorns with a knockback effect could normally send ordinary people flying, but for Vitas, it only forced him back a few steps.

In just a few steps, Raphael had already cast another spell.

"Ghost hands!"

Two large hands emerged from the void, their power matching Vitas's for a short time. Despite the vines blocking Vitas's way, the item in his hand was snatched away long before it was removed.

"damn it!"

Raphael was overjoyed and ran off after uttering a single sentence.

"Maximus, the rest is up to you!"

"What?"

"Leave!"
