Witch Hunter Rhapsody

Chapter 47 has finally ended.

"So, what do we do now?"

"This is a matter between you mages. You're asking me, a knight? Maximus is one thing, but you still won't tell me your name, and now you're asking me what to do?"

Declan Gallagher cast a spell prematurely to prevent people from seeing through his mask, so Maximus was unable to recognize his identity.

He originally thought that if he could obtain the Viya monster, then explaining his identity to Vitas wouldn't be a problem.

But now that Viya the Monster is dead, and Alistair is dead too, there's a huge problem, and revealing one's own identity seems rather unwise.

Okay, he just wanted to minimize trouble.

"I will continue to observe you, and if any particular trouble arises, I will come over. But for now, let's part ways. I'm going to investigate who stole Alistair's body."

Declan didn't want to waste any more time here; he needed to go back and report his progress to his teacher.

So, only Vitas and Maximus remained on the scene.

"Can you handle this?"

"Get what done?"

"Your teacher, one of his top disciples, has died. He shouldn't just sit idly by."

Maximus's face turned deathly pale.

"Well, if it were any other student, he probably wouldn't care at all, but leading the reading is a matter of his pride, so I guess he'll put a lot of thought into it."

"That's terrifying. I really want to help, but if I don't know anything, there's nothing I can do. I can only hope you can cover it up well. By the way, how many people know about him and you coming here?"

"Not much, sigh, but it's no use. Although the teacher isn't a specialist in mind reading, it's still easy for him to get any information out of my head. Sigh, what bad luck."

Maximus gave a wry smile.

"I originally wanted to use this incident to walk the path I had always dreamed of, but now I can only try my best to walk the path that will prevent me from dying a miserable death."

Vitas had no choice.

"Alright, keep it up. But I have to remind you, we've already made a mistake. Viya's death and Alistair's death are now intertwined."

"Of course I understand."

If it were merely about killing Viya, Alistair could suppress the matter, after all, he was the one leading the reading.

but now……

"Oh dear, I need to go take a break."

After saying that, Maximus left. Vitas was left alone to watch.

"Ugh, this is such a hassle."

Before he could finish his exclamation, he saw Helena riding towards him in the distance, followed by a group of mercenaries.

"Vitas! Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, and you seem to be doing well too. The Flying Eagle Knights didn't suffer many casualties, did they?"

Helena rode up to Vitas and then jumped off.

"This is bad. There have been quite a few casualties. We will have to recruit some new people in the future. This is something we have tried our best to avoid."

"This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though it's not exactly a good thing either. As the mercenary group expands, deaths and replacements are inevitable, and this will largely determine the future of the mercenary group. You must pay attention to this."

"Never mind, that's secondary. How are we going to explain this to the Viscount?"

Vitas asked a question.

"Are you in charge of this city?"

"Uh, no."

"That's right. This isn't our responsibility, so why should we be responsible? Of course, if the Viscount wants me to go and explain it myself and pay him, then that's fine."

Helena shook her head; she didn't have Vitas's boldness and confidence.

She wanted Vitas to help her, but it seemed he wasn't keen on getting involved. Most importantly, there were the compensation payments for the fallen and the various needs for recruiting new members; if possible, helping other dead obtain compensation would also enhance the reputation of the Flying Eagle Knights.

However, Vitas seemed to have something more important to do; he had just been spoken to by an unknown wizard.

Vitas, you really are a mysterious guy.

……

Vitas took a deep breath. The commotion of the night, though lively, was far from catastrophic for the city. For those who had survived these troubles, life had to go on.

When Vitas lost his knightly order, besides an absolute pain, he also felt an absolute sense of freedom that he could not admit.

Vitas knew that this was life; trouble would keep coming as long as he was alive, and even death wouldn't bring him peace.

Forget it, let's continue thinking about what to do next.

Vitas sighed and walked step by step to Hammer's armor shop.

"Aisera, are you there?"

Ether has returned home. The night was quite exhausting for her, but fortunately, Ether is used to physical training for work and wasn't in the most dangerous place, so nothing bad happened.

Throughout the entire night, Etherra was more worried about Vitas's safety.

She was relieved to see Vitas return safely.

"I'll have to repair my armor properly now; that battle was quite a challenge."

"Yeah, yeah," Ether said in a complaining tone. "It's hard to imagine our date being ruined by this big trouble. Could their goal have been to sabotage our date?"

"No, they're here to find the monster Viya."

"What about it?"

"He's dead."

When Ether heard this answer, a look of sadness appeared on her face. It was pity, and a person's pity is easily discernible from their facial expression.

"I'm sorry. I just feel that none of this should have happened. The very existence of that girl was a mistake. Why did Viya bring such a life into this world?"

"Wizards' thoughts are not the same as ordinary people's, and can even be said to be completely incomprehensible. I hate wizards, Etherra. Wizards are the culprits who caused me to lose my companions."

"No wonder you didn't seem to like wizards before."

Etherra began to help Vitas remove his armor.

Thank you.

"Why are you telling me this? I should thank you. Without you, I wouldn't know about such interesting things."

"Haha, there are many interesting things to learn about in the future. We'll have plenty of time to explore them."

Etherra didn't know if Vitas was saying he wouldn't leave. But she also knew in her heart that Vitas would leave sooner or later, so what?

Etherra is willing to face and resist this future.

this is life.
