Witch Hunter Rhapsody

Chapter 35 On the Tide of the Undead

"Please don't kill me! I...I'll tell you! That guy did come looking for me! But I didn't help him at all!"

The frail wizard was trampled underfoot. He should be thankful that Vitas Vitalius wasn't wearing full armor, otherwise Vitas would have had to control his strength to avoid crushing his head with a single stomp.

Vitas didn't reply; he simply increased the pressure of his footing slightly. The frail wizard immediately felt death approaching and quickly begged for mercy again.

"I'm telling you, I'm telling you, that guy doesn't look like a wizard at all. He's muscular, has no scars, and looks ordinary—the kind of person you wouldn't recognize in a crowd. Damn it, I even suspect he used some kind of magic to change his appearance!"

"continue."

"I...I don't know! He wants me to use teleportation and attack spells to help him attack this town. Good heavens, there are 150,000 people here! How could I possibly do that?"

Vitas's body gradually revealed wounds, with flesh being torn apart and blood flowing out, and flames burning within the blood. Vitas now resembled one of the undead who had crawled back from hell.

The souls summoned from hell by Vitas obeyed their master's commands and launched an inevitable battle against those around them.

These people, under the control of the frail wizard, submit to force and have no idea how many people they have killed or harmed in the past.

In reality, the number is probably less than what's rumored. After all, what good would it do to kill everyone? The living are more useful most of the time than the dead. Upon closer examination, even if these people were brought to court, they wouldn't face the death penalty.

The dead wouldn't care about these things.

They are summoned to obey only the commands of their masters, and their masters suffer and despair because of their existence.

Vitas was suffering, suffering from hell, suffering from his own heart, and suffering that was enough to make him lose his mind.

When the undead appeared, Vitas finally returned to his Order of Sin.

The weapons wielded by low-level thugs only cause minimal damage to the undead.

Vitas's undead possess formidable magic resistance and basic physical resistance; they are made even more powerful and unkillable, since something that has already died cannot be killed a second time.

They advanced, fought, and killed. The thugs trapped inside the room were killed one by one, and those who indulged in lust within the room, whether willingly or forced, were killed by the undead.

Even in the most critical moments of life and death, there are still some beautiful flowers born from ugliness. Those who collude with the wicked will eventually show the brilliance of humanity and try to get the girl they have abused to leave. However, no matter how many times similar or opposite things happen, it is not worth caring about for the dead.

In the end, several thugs rushed to the door that Vitas had previously locked, trying to open it and escape from this hell, but were eventually hacked to death by the undead with their weapons.

The thin wizard watched all this and told him everything he knew.

"That's all. Listen to me. I know we have a bad reputation, but that's how the world is. You're a mercenary, you should know all this. Even without me, someone else would have taken my place. You shouldn't have killed me. I'll keep this a secret. I didn't see anything today!"

Vitas stared at him. The skinny wizard had no reason to lie now, so the necromancer had indeed come looking for him.

But apart from that, we know nothing else.

Vitas tried to stop himself from being dominated by pain and anger, and tried to think about what he really needed to do now.

Kill the wizard before him to quell his anger? No wizard is any good, and this one in front of him is no exception.

He doesn't deserve to live in this world, just like that damned Nexus.

Vitas once again thought of his enemy, that gloomy man with a hooked nose, silent and elegant, like a venomous snake.

He looked up and saw his subordinates, doing their work, their flames and wounds proving they were not human.

Vitas lost all his anger and reason in an instant; his mind went blank, and he had only one thought left.

Kill this wizard.

Vitas lifted the frail wizard, who had exhausted all his methods.

"Please, I can be of greater use while I'm alive. You can cooperate with me, and you'll gain more benefits in front of the Viscount. You can..."

Vitas's hand pierced through the chest, grasping the ribs. He slammed the wizard against the wall, making sure his force had broken his spine.

Blood seeped from the corner of his mouth, but Vitas did not stop. He continued, again and again, the wizard's body making heavy thuds against the wall.

The wizard initially had the strength to scream, but with each thud, the screams turned into groans, and eventually, there was no sound at all.

When Vitas finally stopped moving, only the part of his body above his ribs remained in his grasp.

There was no sound at all; this banquet hall-like place had been completely transformed into a world of the dead.

The scout had returned, and as the battle began, Vitas ordered him to find the small door that the henchman had mentioned earlier.

The scout's reconnaissance skills were still as good as when he was alive; he did indeed find it.

Vitas dismissed his undead, looked at the lifeless puppets, and returned his sword.

"Forgive me, forgive me..."

He found the small door on the wall at the end of the corridor in this hall. There were many corpses here, but those who tried to escape were all killed by the undead.

Vitas pushed open the door, and a downward staircase appeared before him.

He slowly walked down, and a foul smell wafted into his nostrils.

It smells like the dead.

Vitas continued onward and came to a place that resembled an underground prison, filled with both the living and the dead.

Vitas saw a cell with dozens of furs hanging inside.

"This is……"

Vitas realized that it was made by humans.

"That's really scary."

Vitas walked step by step to the end of the prison, where there was another door.

Behind the door was a small alley, which was also guarded. The two men were quite surprised to see Vitas appear.

Without further hesitation, Vitas drew his short sword and swiftly plunged it into one man's abdomen, then grabbed the other man's wrist and broke it, ultimately killing both men.

"Sigh, to be honest, we shouldn't have killed all of them. Now we're in trouble. It's going to be lively again tomorrow."
